Spy shot of the Verizon Samsung i770

i770

A spy shot of the Samsung i770 next to its predecessor, the i760, emerged on Tuesday courtesy of Howard Forums member TK093. The upcoming i770 is longer and a lot slimmer than the i760. The i770 maintains its slim profile by shedding the slide out keyboard of the i760 in favor of a full front Qwerty keyboard. The front of the phone is dominated visually by a giant silver ring that encircles an optical touchpad. Similar to the i780, the optical touchpad can be used to control the onscreen cursor. Confused by the idea of a touchpad on a touchscreen device? Don’t worry, there is a toggle switch on the side of the phone that allows you to switch from this unique virtual mouse mode to regular D-Pad mode. According to TK093, the i770 still has the top power button that is used to wake up the phone. Ugh, a minor annoyance but at least there is a system setting that allows you to switch between “wake up with the power button” or “wake up with any button”. No release date or pricing has been announced. We can only hope the release is soon as the aging i760 really needs a replacement and Verizon desperately needs some fresh, new Windows Mobile Professional phones, even this mediocre offering, in its lineup. Hit the jump for a snapshot of the ultra-slim side profile of the i770.

This looks to be a smartphone edition, not professional. The screen looks like a non-touch version ala blackjack, which it looks more like.

Wow, that is easily the fugliest phone I’ve seen in quite some time. I’d be scared to pull that thing out of my pocket and have someone see me with it.

This looks like a mix between a Treo 700wx (keypad resemblance)and a Treo 800/Pro (nav and D-Pad). Lacks creativity.

Currently Verizon only has one phone on their entire website that has wifi built-in. The Samsung i760 had wifi. Lets see if Verizon strips the wifi from the i770 to complete the near clean-sweep of smartphone handsets without wifi.

Actualy a very nice phone. One handed operation even with power-on-password. Great touchscreen. Needs option to turn off TS when on a call. Plenty of memory. Have not tested GPS or Vodafone SIM mode. Navigation and mouse function are awesome. Have only reset once in 3 weeks. Not slugish at all with Activesync/exchange. Communicator Mobile, Live Search all good. Voice dial and “Speak” for LS much better recognition. Fast on EvDO. No need for a case, fits in shirt pocket. Needs extended battery.

I work for verizon and this is actually quite a nice device. It does have built in wifi, basically its the same as a Motorola Q9m or Q9m with touchscreen capabilities and is PPC rather than a Smart Phone.

Dude, you are the one with the wrong info winmo 6.1 was a release of an updated operating system for a ton of phones. HTC, Motorola, Samsung and the rest. Not a patch to correct issues of the i760. Don’t be so quick to be a jerk when you don’t know what the heck you are talking about!
