BlackBerry Storm hitting TELUS in Canada

Man, we might have to send our runner out to get another carton of cigarettes — this is getting ridiculous! In addition to our leaked embargoed Storm info for Verizon and Vodafone, we’re also hitting you with the official press release that TELUS will be touch-Clicking their way to a BlackBerry Storm pretty soon. Same shit, different carrier basically. No launch date, no pricing at the moment. We had heard $199 for Verizon with a 2-year agreement, but the Mounties would stop us if we tried to predict a price for TELUS. Press release after the jump, enjoy.
UPDATE: TELUS just hit us up to let us know that they are actually not the exclusive carrier in Canada which would make sense given that we’ve heard of a launch on Rogers and then there’s that Bell rumor… That should give all you Americans hope there will be a tri-band HSDPA unit to unlock.
TELUS first to bring revolutionary touchscreen BlackBerry® StormTM 9530 smartphone to Canada
TELUS is thrilled to announce that it will be the first in Canada to offer consumers the revolutionary BlackBerry Storm 9530 smartphone from Research In Motion. The addition of this world edition smart phone to TELUS’ line-up cements TELUS’ position as Canada’s smartphone leader with the most smartphones on Canada’s largest 3G network.
A revolution in the palm of your hands
The revolution begins with the BlackBerry Storm’s advanced high resolution (480 x 320) 3.25” touchscreen. This is the first touchscreen on a BlackBerry device and features an innovative clickable surface for precise and responsive text input. The touchscreen is also intelligent enough to present users with a virtual QWERTY or SureType® keyboard depending on the orientation of the device.
The familiar communications experience that clients have grown to love about their BlackBerry smartphones has also been enhanced as e-mails and Internet browsing are rendered in rich HTML format, with embedded images and one-click hyperlinks.
Clients will also appreciate the feature-packed multimedia capabilities of the device including a high resolution 3.2 MP camera to take pictures and videos and 1GB of memory with an expandable micro SD ™ memory slot to store those images. Best of all, those images can be uploaded quickly with high speed access to YouTube streaming videos for mobile devices and one touch access to popular social networking sites like Facebook. And battery life is not an issue as the BlackBerry Storm boasts an extended life battery, which is replaceable.

damn you bell..
@inc – http://www.bell.ca/storm
you need to chill the fuck out
STORM IS HERE for BELL as well
umm is there a reason for a stupid comment like this?
^^ msg was directed to “Joe”
Let’s hear it for Joe!
Joe, Joe, Fuck Joe!!! You donkey!
Try http://promo.telusmobility.com/storm/ instead. more thorough. And from the looks of it that Bell page is using a mock up of a ripped off Verizon image.
I’ve been with Bell for about 8 years now and have never ever experienced such horrendous customer service. I’m finally sans contract and have been waiting for this thunder/storm to arrive before jumping ship.
I live a 12 minute commute from the downtown core of Ottawa, and can not use my cell in my home and must go outside in order to receive a bar or two – and even then lucky to make it without call cutting in/out or having call dropped.
A mere 300 meters away I can receive a full 5 bars.. Bell has been aware of this problem for years and haven’t invested a penny into their infrastructure to upgrade the crap tower. They are waiting like some welfare recipient, for the Federal Government to provide them with a portion of the proceeds from the recent spectrum auction of $4 billion in order to expand their network.
I’ve had this crap company change my contract on me without authorization, and then proceeding to charge my CC for 2 cancellation fees totaling $800.. take 6 months to refund it back.. and then renew me on another 3 year contract again without authorization when my former contract had expired.
Most recently, my lovely blackberry of less than a year has all of a sudden decided a full charged battery would last 45 minutes, incoming calls would be directed straight to voice mail and notifications of messages left, not show up.
Needless to say, they won’t be providing me with a refurbished one for 4 weeks and expect me to use this useless device as some kind fashion accessory instead of a functional smart phone for that duration of time.
I’m trying to find out from Telus if I would be experiencing these same issues with them before jumping ship, or if the 3g network would provide better coverage. If not, it’s wait till Roger’s comes out with it.
I recently switched my spouse over to Rogers with a new LG 3g phone, and it works perfectly.. even in the basement. I’ve been thrilled with their customer service and have switched all other services over to them.. cancelling with them was a breeze too, when I wasn’t happy with my internet speeds.. even giving me a credit and making other refunds when they didn’t need to (I’m giving credit to the company but realize it was a very nice girl who had done this – most likely looking to get fired), and a big reason I went back (with Bell providing even worse speeds).
Please don’t fall into this trap of switching over to Bell just for this awesome phone.
Read the business and financial news and you’ll find that Telus and Rogers are the two that experts feel are in the best position to thrive.. with Bell completely out of the picture without a leg to stand on.
Don’t believe Bell’s false promises..(like when you type in your postal code on their website and they tell you that you are eligible for the latest and greatest technologies to their fullest capacities!!)
Needless to say, Bell did always end up owning up and correcting their mistakes.. it would only take 5 calls for each issue and about an hour of each call being on hold or being hung up on from dudes in India when their propaganda literature deviated from the issue at hand.
They even make it seem like you should be grateful and not disgruntled when they refund money for their own mistake (like having a data plan and then charging you on top of that for usage without having even gone over your limit.. ie. 4mb plan and use only 2mb and charge you for the 4 + 2)
Def not worth my time..
The U.S version does not have wi-fi, is there any information on the cdma canadian version having wi-fi, it RIM left it out, it would most likely be a deal breaker for me.
Easy Asshole
this phone sounds and looks like its going to kick the iphones ass out of this world hahaha. sweet deal hopefull they give us a gud data package now and i will be more then happy to purchase this phone. way to go blackberry…
this phone is kicking iphones ass way to go blackberry. i just hope u guys provide us with a good data package like all the oter carriers had for iphone.
Suck a dick Joe…..fuckin’ yankee bitch
There’s no way the will release the same day. That’s the deal behind Telus and Bell, they won’t have the phone come the same time. They never did for any other phone, there was always a little bit in the difference, or Rogers always got the phone well in advance. Hopefully you’re right though and they do release the same day because I’ve been wanting this phone since I heard word about it coming.
fuck your mom…
maybe you guys should go to bell.ca and see that bell is getting the storm just like telus…
So boy genius is not so much a genius after all… First, Bell announced that they were getting the phone before Telus. It may have been by a mere few hours or days at most but Bell is getting the phone. Rumour has it that it will be released in time for the Holidays. Since the 8830 World Edition was $699, I would expect that the Storm will be in the same price range. $699 is without contract, minus $200 for every year signed. Rogers has not mentioned that they are getting the phone and I suspect since they’re the only provider of the iPhone in Canada that RIM will not be approaching them to release it (can we say “Marketing”, boys and girls?)
For those of you bitching about how Bell is a lax provider of service in comparison with Telus, I disagree. I have had and heard of more problems with Telus over Bell and after living in the Yukon Territory (beside Alaska for those who never went through Canadian Social Studies in elementary school or have been living in their own bubble since birth)for 8 years and having Bell as the only provider of cell service there, I could be in the middle of the forest and as long as I was in the service area, I’d get service. Often it’s your phone that’s garbage, not the provider!
My last comment is can we not play nice with one another? Wasted energy on yelling at someone is far more ineffective than proving their point wrong with simple words and class!
Bell got the storm too. Rumor has it that Rogers will be picking it up as well
Does anyone know specifically when the Storm will be available at Telus. Website says in time for the holiday season. Isn’t that now?
It is being released tomorrow in the USA. I would assume that the date would be the same for Canada. I just hope that the price of the other blackberry phones comes down
The Storm won’t be in Canada tomorrow, well at least not where I’m from. Word is that it won’t be coming to Bell until December 6th, and at the latest of the 10th. Just checked Bell’s website and they just added new Data Plans which tells me that they’re getting ready for the Storm since they are trying to show up both Rogers and Telus with their “More Minutes…”. Hopefully it comes soon because I’ve been waiting for this phone for some time now.
Beauty! Been looking into getting a blackberry when my contract renews at the end of this month. I’ve been a client of Telus for about 6 years now and I spend a lot of money with them so I’ve been getting rank renewal offers already…can’t wait to see what I can work on a Storm! This thing looks sweet and I’ll be able to do even more with ym business with all the multimedia functionality of this thing as well! Itchy to see the launch date or at least what the pricing works out to!
rogers will be selling the storm in April.
