BlackBerry Media Sync for Mac
Feelin’ left in the dust while all your Outlook-loving PC friends get all the cool BlackBerry stuff? Well, RIM has been hard at work on the Mac side of things, and we’ve got a first look at BlackBerry Media Sync for Mac. This isn’t a final version so don’t get too depressed that the options are pretty limited at this time. We’d expect the final software to break down media types like photos, music, videos, and more. In its current state you can only sync music from your iTunes playlists, and it’s all very straight-forward. As far as the options go, you can choose where to sync your music to (device or memory card), choose to select individual playlists or all of them, and… that’s about it. We’ll quit talkin’ and let you do the lookin’. After the break, of course.
Thanks, RIM ninja!

This basic functionality is already built into the latest PocketMac version that RIM offers on their website. Maybe this adds better support, but I routinely dump music from my Macbook to my Blackberry when I’m on the road and not near my desktop PC.

Sooner or later they needed to address the mac side of the house or risk the possibility of losing people to iphone.

The #1 reason why I trashed my blackberry was because of the lack of Mac software and everytime I plugged in any of the 4 models I had into the 5 macs I had, it always said insufficient usb charge. It even did this on my work computer.
Can’t be bothered to use a product that doesn’t work. So I bought an iPhone and well it just works

HELL YES!!!!! THIS MADE MY DAY!!!

Does anyone know if this will just be rolled into an update of PocketMac or if we’re going to have to sync separately? Ano/or if this is just a precursor to a Mac Blackberry Desktop?

BGR: With posts like this, people are going to think that you are not biased and have been, and still are, a Blackberry admirer and user. Wait, isn’t that what we’ve been telling the haters all along?
Well, enjoy it while it lasts because the next post that comes along criticizing RIM in any way, shape, or form will bring the fanboys back out to accuse you of suckling Apple/AT&T’s tit again. I wonder how limited the minds of those posters are than can’t conceive of actually being able to have likes and dislikes of more than one device on more than one carrier.

This is great! I hope they eventually make it possible to completely sync everything including including address book and iCal. Maybe work with Apple to just make an entire MobileMe app or something.

you dont need mobile me if you have BB’s BIS servers. I dont think you will every see a mobileme app on a blackberry…hell, apple can barely get mobile me right!

2 Questions:
1. if you use a BES, will you still be able to hook the Bold via USB to your Mac to download music?
2. Any word as to if this will be available on the Storm too?

I don’t think DRm music will sync. If it does, that would be a first. If it doesn’t, I hope it doesnt wait till the song is on the device to let you know that it won’t play!
Good news

Is this going to be an all-in-one synching program? i.e. can it do calendars/contacts, too? That would be endlessly more convenient than having to have two separate programs. Any idea?

I really wish they would include music and movies too… I am dumping my iphone for the storm when they come out but the easy sync of the iphone to itunes in mac is just plan awesome. Hopefully they keep working it.

Sweet! I have been waiting for this. Took RIM damn long enough to make a native app for Mac.
