BlackBerry Storm internal product positioning, marketing points, BlackBerry Apex
Continuing our Stormness today, we’re breaking out these great internal marketing and product positioning points. What you’re going to see isn’t for the faint of heart — there’s a ton of data points in here. RIM even goes as far to compare the Storm (or Thunder as they referred to it internally) to the iPhone, Nokia N95, and LG Viewty. We’ve got full price points on where the Storm sits in between the other devices, and we even have a couple exclusives for you… How does a BlackBerry Niaraga with Wi-Fi sound for Verizon? Yep, the device we broke the news on will have Wi-Fi for all your Verizon-lovers. Finally, how does a CDMA Kickstart sound? It’s codenamed the BlackBerry Apex and it will indeed be hitting Verizon as well. Release not yet known. Click through for practically all the inside RIM info you can handle!

More exclusivity for certain wireless providers. Enjoy the phones. I’ll wait until they reach other providers before letting VZW mess up my billing again. Anyone else take them up on a 30 day test drive, return your equipment within 15 days and still receive ETF bills 11 months later? I’ll take my Blackberry with uncrippled GPS, thanks.

meteor/thunder : bold/storm ???
if one were to read between the lines and make assumptions (we all do it), one would perceive this…
Executive Summary
The fall of 2008 will be a busy time for RIM seeing multiple major platforms being launched within 90 days of each other, all of which have an important role to play in the 2008 and 2009 calendar years for RIM.
….to be saying Bold and Storm were meant to be launched within months of each other. Likely due to a collaborative effort between RIM and ATT, and RIM and VZW, to boost RIM sales.
Again, if one were to read between lines and make assumptions.
wonder if there will be any comments on this posting relating to BGR’s anti-RIM bias….

BG,
Thanks for the info relative to RIM’s future plans for their great BlackBerry devices. It goes without saying that Q4 of ‘08, and Q1/Q2 of ‘09 are going to be extremely productive for RIM.
It will be interesting to watch how BlackBerry users cope with so many new BB devices from which to choose over such a short period of time. I hope the economic downturn in the U.S. doesn’t overly affect RIM’s plans and/or sales.

Great info BG! Now I might wait for the Niagara to drop in the first half of 2009. Hopefully verizon wont drop the ball on this one, like att did with the bold.

WOW. BGR, you posted info about the Storm without showing any bias. WTF?

WOW…BG you’ve finally proven to me why I come on this site…great info and I’m loving how RIM seems to be just ditching AT&T and releases so many phones on Verizon. It’s a good corporate move seeing as how AT&T has made the iPhone their primary handset and thus has created tension between the two.

Amazing what comes out the weekend after RIM stock price tanks. This looks like dated information leaked to boost the stock price.
HINT: Get AT&T to release the Bold and sales will go up…and the stock will go up

Wow. Love the info! Thanks BGR.
One small request: Can you make your posts have a “read more” section so that when new posts come out they aren’t the complete posting? These long posts really make using my iPhone’s RSS reader annoying.

kind of odd that the kickstart aka 8220, launching oct 13th on t-mo was not mentioned???????

I left Verizon because of lack of phones and the ridiculous price of their BB add-on, but with the stronger lineup starting to form and the $10 cheaper plan now, they definitely are setting up to lure some of us back.

Seeing as the 8830 is priced at $199 on VZW, and seeing how the thunder falls “half a phone” above the 8830 on the pricing chart, it leads me to believe that it will probably be priced at around $249.00

I wonder how long before Rim’s lawyers get this article removed…

This document references the N95 as having the largest installed base for touch screen phones in Europe. They also have a picture of an original N95 next to the N95 8GB specs. It’s good to know that RIM really goes the extra mile in researching their competition.

Looks like from the document that GPS may NOT be crippled after all, just that Verizon is offering Turn-by-Turn, I expect through VZNavigator, but it says it has location aware capabilities for BB Maps and other apps… That would be nice indeed.
