Sure, the bulk of BGR’s readership might come from elsewhere but that does that mean we can’t talk about some good news for our friends across the (other) pond in Russia from time to time? Beginning today you can brave the chilly weather and head to your local, or not-so-local, mobile retailer or electronics store and snag an iPhone 3G. And if the Americans should ever dare whine about the cost of an iPhone 3G in the states, perhaps they might take a little delight (shadenfreude, anyone?) in knowing just how ridiculous the cost will be in Россия (that’s Russia… in Russian). For the 8 GB model it will be 22,999 rubles and the 16 GB will run 26,999 rubles. That’s $937 and $1,100 respectively, with a contract! Wow. It can be purchased at the Eldorado chain, M.video, and Russian carriers MTS, Vimpelcom and MegaFon. Sales of the phone by year’s end is estimated to be around 150,000 but some might speculate it will be more like 12 given the steep price.
Hi guys, I’m from Russia and your post have some errors.
When you buy iPhone for 900$ it will have sim card, but you can throw it to trash. No contracts, no sim-lock.
But if you want to have contract you can buy it only for 2! dollars and pay every month about 100-110$ for two years (it’s Megafon data-plan).
Also you can buy it in almost all electronic stores, not only in “Eldorado chain, M.video”.
Glad I don’t live in Russia!
What about 3G in Russia?
I go to russia very often and i purchased Motorola (dont remember exact model) about 5 years ago, with blue tooth and all that (before blue tooth was coming out here). I bought it on Red Square Mall in Moscow, huge electronic Store, guess what 2 weeks later it broke down. I sent it to my friend in Moscow he went to take it under warranty they told him what kind of BS did you bring us, when you open the phone its all fake parts. After that on the news they were showing that 95% of all ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS in RUSSIA is FAKE!!!! its all china, germany made in some small warehouses. My buddy from Russia is asking me to get him iphone 3g from here because he is afraid to buy it there because of fake shit. So Screw Russia HAHAHA, im going there in 3 weeks HAHAHA
