LG launches the “artistic” KC910 Renoir

Say good riddance bye, bye to the Viewty, and say hello to the LG Renoir. LG, on Thursday, officially announced the launch of its “artistic handset”, the LG Renoir. Chock full of innovative features, the Renoir is the first worldwide phone to include Dolby Mobile, an integrated suite of audio processing technologies that will bring Dolby quality sound to your handset. Fancy yourself to be a mobile photographer? Renoir’s new TouchShot feature allows you to focus on an object by touching it on the screen. When you lift your finger off the screen, the shutter fires automatically. No more image blur while you fumble for the camera/shutter release button, just smooth and easy 8 megpixel picture taking. The Renoir also incorporates both the 120 frame per second slow-motion video of the Viewty and Dare and the the 5 frame per second time lapse video of the LG Secret to create an awesome mobile video recording device. Not impressed? Well, check out the rest of the features this phone packs into it 13.95mm chassis:

  • Quad-band GSM, UMTS (HSDPA 7.2 Mbps)
  • WQVGA 240×400 touchscreen display
  • Homescreen Widgets (including online widgets that pull down real-time data)
  • Picture-Based Speed Dial
  • 8 megapixel camera
  • Xenon flash, Schneider-Kreuznach lens, auto or manual focus, face, smile and blink detection and digital image stabilization
  • Dolby sound
  • VGA video capture up to 30fps, QVGA capture up to 120 fps
  • DivX and XviD video support
  • Integrated GPS, with support for geotagging and location based services
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • WiFi
  • MicroSDHC support
  • TV-out

The Renoir will debut in Europe in this month, followed by Asia and Latin America in November, the Middle East and Africa in December and China in January of 2009. Look for it in titan black and other multitudes of color options depending on the carrier. Sorry everyone, no US carrier or launch date mentioned.

No mention of the operating system, I guess Linux-derivate again. Only 50 megs internal memory and 3.5 hours talk time (optimistic) are a joke however.

The viewty doesn’t have a linux based os… It’s flashed based. At least the GUI is. The underpinnings are LG’s own stuff.

I just wished that LG would bring some of the pure software functions to the viewty. A long with bug fixes (like, you know, Xvid support and virtual keyboard in all applications). But, alas, LG don’t do firmware upgrades. Annoying as hell.

I’d love to have this phone and keep it for at least 2 years before upgrading. It does have a lot of features and so does the Innov8 but I hate the form factor of the Innov8 and the screen is not as impressive and too small.

I do not understand why this device is still only 240 X 400 resolution…
I also do not hear any accelometer news…

    Don’t fail me, LG.

Dolby sounds great but no stereo speakers? That’s not quite the mobile entertainment experienceas advertised. Nokia still rules!
