I have to say that i am continually amused by the girlish and catty antics that people have when they comment. BG totally has a point, perhaps some of the things he post are inflammatory so all you guys get the stand on your soap boxes and vent… over something that isn’t released yet, who released it, blah blah blah…

I think you all should load up on the paxil and wait for the phone to come out, and i agree with BG… i hope verizon doesn’t fuck this up.

I also imagine as i read this that you all have nerdy nasally voices just to it enhances my amusement!

I don’t know you that well, but I would defend you if someone came here and attacked your reputation if I knew if was false. I’d speak up for you if I thought you were a good guy and deserved a bit more respect from some of these goobers. It doesn’t mean that I don’t think you can’t defend yourself, it would just mean as a fellow tech enthusiast, I’d have your back.

I think BG has done enough good for us tech junkies over the years on all sides of the carrier/devices fences that he deserves a little more credit and a little more respect than he’s getting. That doesn’t make me an ass kisser, it makes me a friend. (At least as much of a friend as you can be on the internet)

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK the IPHONE and AT&T. If it weren’t for them causing a stir in mobile tech, Verizon and Rim wouldn’t have been as proactive in changing their approach. The marketplace has become more competitive and end users have raised the bar in expectations. Verizon is now trying to attain better phones, relinquishing UI to the phones, and becoming more competitive to new phone technology.

Can we admit also that if Verizon hadn’t turned down the iphone, that they would have dominated the U.S. market hands down? You can’t unlock CDMA phones like GSM phones and they would have gotten much higher actual subscriptions than AT&T did with the first Iphone. It was a big blunder. I’ll be just as excited as I am for the storm when the next iphone sporting 4g hits Verizon.

Now BG I must say that we all notice the snideness and negativity in your RIM and sometimes Verizon posts. I’m sure when the iPhone was first coming out and you were receiving all those leaks you did not say “fuck Apple release the damn phone already and cut out all this bullshit.” You contradicted yourself by saying that the Storm’s announcement is the same as the Bold’s because that led to many disappointments. However, the Storm has not even been announced by RIM yet, just acknowledged by Verizon and Vodafone, and even that has only been in the last month or so. This is exactly why it is not the same because they did not announce it, have three thousand delays and changed launch dates and disappointments. Even you haven’t set a firm launch date for this device yet, but you did set multiple ones for the Bold that were never met and now we still don’t know if it is coming out soon even though every other carrier aside from AT&T already has it. Rim is going to officially announce it exactly a month from when many believe it will be launched, which is October 9th and November 7th respectively. If they had announced it and not released it then you could bash them but only people who read blogs like this new the existence of this device, without any real announcement and even then we just knew it was coming and nothing more. You are making it seem like it is the Bold and it has been seen all around the world but on a carrier in the US. That is not the case and you know it, which is exactly why many people are criticizing you for it. I love this post, don’t get me wrong but just like how you admitted that Verizon does have the best network, just admit that you love Apple and the Iphone and AT&T and everything’ll be perfect.

Evilhomer you do defend BG on everything pro Apple and you have every right to do so but like BG does with Apple the kneepads do start wearing thin after a lot of uses you know. I do like your objective viewpoint in your last post though, that the phone does have potential like the iPhone and we just have to wait and see.

The video is great and just builds anticipation for what those awaiting this phone want to have in our hands.
P.S. The comment about banning Matrix was funny as HELL LMAO

Well being a Verizon subscriber i can see where your coming from when you say that Verizon has dull phones and you may be right. But the way i see it is this, whats the point of going out and buying the latest new hottness phone if you cant even get decent reception? Where i live (Northeast New Jersey) the reception is second to none, sure some of my friends phones are better looking, but when it comes down to it my phone has never dropped a call, except one time like 4 years ago. Meanwhile my friends with their new hottness phone can’t make a call to save their lives. so yea there maybe some gripes with CDMA but that reliability is worth the less than stellar phone selection, especially if your going to pay $200 and up for a phone.

As for “anyone can make a video look good” In the same breath lets all remember the Iphone3g commercial where the Iphone demo moved at the speed of a direct fiber line connected to it. LOL. Obviously the reason this thread has caused so much attention is the darn Storm actually looked impressive. Soon we shall see how slick it really is. Till then I am ordering a pizza and see how many rounds this can go! lol…

Yeah, I agree. It is like the Steve Jobs keynote when introducing the first iPhone. It looked better then than it actually ran at launch. Although I will say the the addition of 3G that it is pretty close now. At least for those is AT&T 3G coverage area. I think the same is at work here with the Storm. I think the Storm, like the iPhone, has great potential. I just don’t expect it to run like the demo’s right out of the gate and experience some growing pains like the iPhone. The key will be how quickly RIM pushes out updates and fixes. If they follow Apples example, it could be okay and like Apple lovers, RIM fans should be able to put up with the minor annoyances. That is if the touch screen works well. There is nothing worse than an unresponsive touch screen that you have to tap again and again to make work.

I kind of agree. I’m currently on AT&T, so I guess I kind of prove your point there.

I jumped ship from Big Red because of three things: locked out GPS, gimped Bluetooth, and, yes, exactly what you’re talking about – old, dull phones with crappy UI’s. But I’m getting a tad antsy as I putt along with my EDGE connection while the VZW subscriber next to me is rockin’ out his EvDO pipe.

Agree man… if someone said you have to pick a network for guaranteed voice coverage and guaranteed 3G data coverage it would be Verizon. But what phone am I using on it? That’s the issue… It’s worth the trade off for slightly worse coverage and a slightly worse network if you’re rockin’ the latest hotness. At least it is for me…

What’s undeniable, though, is that at least in the US, CDMA rules. The CDMA carriers collectively have the best coverage, fastest data, and most reliable networks available here in the States. EvDO, even Rev. A, isn’t as fast as HSDPA 7.2, but how many places in the US can you get reliable, good UMTS signal? I get strong EvDO Rev. A signal in Toledo, OH. Can’t say the same about AT&T’s HSDPA service.

I don’t like that on Verizon users won’t be able to be on the web and get a call. Probably my biggest complaint about CDMA even though there are a lot more positives about the Verizon network.

I’ve heard (rumor) the touch screen will allow input even if its not clicked for those that choose to use it another way – like an iPhone. I guess you can set the hover and tap interval on the device so the screen doesn’t need to be depressed. If this rumor is true it would take away BGRs biggest complaint about the device.

I actually don’t like the iPhone touch screen and think the click-able screen will allow for easier one hand typing. I’m holding back on calling this device the greatest or a pos until I can use one for a while.

RIM has allowed Verizon & Vodaphone to use official images to set up public websites devoted to collecting email addresses of interested parties. RIM is allowing both companies to send emails and postcards about the Storm with pictures of the Storm.

RIM isn’t trying to keep anything secret. I don’t get the writers rant about RIM & secrecy. Who cars that RIM is waiting for their dev conference to make their announcement. Where is it written that a device must remain a deep secret until the official press release day?

The problem is that CDMA is very limited and up until very very recently there hasn’t been anything good to say. We’re supposed to praise Verizon for the ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING UI it put on practically 99% of their phones? I love Verizon and I can honestly say they have the best voice and data network in the country. But what good is that if the phones are some of the worst? That’s beginning to change now and that’s a great thing. I’ve said in the past if Verizon doesn’t screw up their open handset initiative, that would be a major win for them and good for everyone.

Whoever posted that it was a Vodafone presentation has a point – it wasn’t a RIM leak, it was a Voda leak, but BG’s point stands. RIM needs to, in this order:

1.) Announce the Storm formally
2.) Get the Bold to the point where AT&T approves it, post-haste
3.) Get the 8220 out the door ASAP
4.) Get their act together as far as OS
5.) Get their act together as far as marketing

Yet your site bashes them in this post for leaking the info that allows you both to sustain a business.

Fact is if you don’t get leaks then you don’t have a blog. If they don’t give leaks no one knows what they have coming, and it hurts their business.

Matrix was definitely a little harsh there..lol. I do equate your site with reading the New York Daily News for my sports info. They are usually biased and have an agenda. That’s also what makes them fun to read though. I will say that the BG haters make the comments section worth reading so don’t go banning anyone just yet.

If it weren’t for me and the online community buddy, RIM would have lost a ton more sales. Imagine if no one had heard about the Bold, Javelin, Kickstart, or Storm until RIM was ready to announce them. Hundreds of thousands of people would have jumped ship. We gave them hope that their favorite manufacturer wasn’t laying down and waiting to die.
