BlackBerry Storm video proves RIM hates confidentiality, or they just want to leak crap

We all know that you have a touchscreen device in the 9500 and 9530 Storm, but you just have to make life difficult for all of us and make a half-assed attempt at keeping it secret, don’t you? We’re speaking from the BGR team here, but when so much stuff about a phone leaks before there is a public press release, you have to start thinking the words “controlled” and “leak”. Anyway, the latest in a shamefully long parade of leaks is a video presentation given to an Italian audience. It’s pretty nicely done and gives great insight into how OS 4.7 will work on a touchscreen device. Hell, it made us want one.
Tell them BG! Just seems like people enjoy to yell bias.

Can’t say I want the Storm but I’ll certainly take the Bold… and that this point, RIM should be handing them out to us for free as consolation for the anticipation that their “leaks” have caused.
dude, get google apps for the BB. If you have a gmail acct, you can sync your gmail calendar and contacts with your BB. Your gmail syncs with iCal and contacts. If I put in an appt on my BB it shows up on my iCal. I also use picasa that will upload pics from iPhoto. It works well. BTW I also have a 3Giphone, i use it with mobileme, it works great syncing contacts and calendar, posting pics to share with others. Personally I feel google actually offers a comparable service to mobileme for free that works with a BB. I love the apps for the iphone, but the service lapses I dont experience on my VZW BB may make me take the iphone back. Try google apps out if you have a bberry, i think they’ll work just as well with the storm as the iphone and mobileme.

I’ve used the software yea. It worked fine. I’m not currently using it only because I’m renting a server for my website that hosts BES for you as part of the server so I get the advantages of that.

You took the words right out of my mouth. We all know BG doesn’t like this phone as evidence from the quote you posted. So apparently BG is no longer part of the BGR staff? Or should we just revise Michaels quote to “it made most of us want one.”
the leak is clearly from a vodafone presentation, not a RIM branded one. therefore, vodafone leak, not RIM

Maybe you’ve been hit in the head with a hammer recently, but I use around 4 devices daily. BlackBerry is for business and my iPhone is for personal email, web, music, games, applications, text, browsing, and our iPhone app that’s almost finished. Also, yes I did say the Storm was going to be garbage. But, if you had the means to buy every mobile device out there, wouldn’t you? The fact I think it will suck doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like one of my own to mess around with.

You are so correct! BG has emailed me a couple of times and it’s from his Blackberry Bold. Why is it that if he doesn’t really care for the Storm in particular, that he’s a RIM/Blackberry hater? Does that mean if you don’t like the Samsung I760 that you automatically hate Windows Mobile even though you may be using an HTC Touch?
If some of you RIM fans build the Storm up too much from just the hype, you are going to be setting yourself up for possibly a very big let down if this thing doesn’t wind up walking on water. Even if its a good device, you may still be disappointed if it doesn’t live up to your expectations. As stated above, promotional video can make a device look 10x better than it actually is. I’m not saying that it won’t be a good, maybe great device. But how many times have we seen devices not live up to the hype?
Personally I would love to see the Storm be a terrific device. I don’t think the iPhone or any other device for that matter is the only phone for everyone. I would hate to see any one device dominate the market so completely that it had no reason to keep progressing and getting better. Competition is healthy and benefits all of us no matter what carrier or device that we choose. That’s why I don’t understand the HATRED that I read here and other forums regarding the iPhone. How can you seriously hate on something so much? it seems petty and jealous. The iPhone has broken some seriously new ground and has compelled other makers to work harder to compete for our business.
You may feel that AT&T sucks, or Apple, or RIM, or VZW, etc. Buy why spend so much time hating on any of them? Can you imagine how much more money you’d pay for Verizon services if AT&T didn’t exists? Or vice versa? Their mutual presents ensure they will work hard to keep, or take the number one spot. Either way, we all win.
Surely we can discuss, debate, and disagree on carriers and devices in a more constructive way. I believe that this is the true spirit of this forum and that a good or bad post from BG or his staff shouldn’t be automatically presumed to be based in bias. BG and his staff are people, the same as us, with their own opinions. Their own personal likes and dislikes of carriers and devices. The articles posted here are editorial in nature and not always intended to be completely impartial or unbiased. They should be allowed to express opinions whether they turn out to be correct or whether or not you agree with them. Without those personal opinions, insights and interpretations, you might as well just read the press releases from the wireless industry. I promise, those will always reflect positively on the companies who publish them. Where’s the fun in that?
I say we should all take a breath, relax, and let BG and his team to their job. You don’t have to agree with everything that is posted to enjoy the site and to at least get a different perspective. I for one will make a pledge to at least TRY to be more civil with those who I don’t agree with and try to offer a constructive argument. That’s not to say I’ll never call someone a fucktard again because there is sometimes no better word to describe some of the posters here, but I will try to be more selective of posts that deserve such insult.
After all, it is just mobile phones we are talking about here. It’s not like they are insulting your gods.

Yes, he has used the Storm and you’d know that it you actually followed the forum instead of just posting nonsense. Yes, he used it briefly and it was on early software, but that’s what he’s basing his opinions on. It’s more than you have to go on defending a device that you haven’t had any face time with. That’s the difference between being an insider like BG and a end user such as yourself.
BGR, if i could, i would sue your ass on behalf of Verizon, RIM, and CDMA technology.

Why in the hell would he post his worthless opinion about a device that “he used it briefly and it was on early software.” I’m basing my opinion off of the account of many testers who have spent WEEKS with the device, not a few minutes.
