BlackBerry Storm video proves RIM hates confidentiality, or they just want to leak crap
“You’re invited to a secret presentation on the upcoming BlackBerry Storm. But just remember, we at RIM don’t care about company secrets any more, so you Italians in the audience should feel free to blatantly hold your camera phone above your head and film the entire thing.” Seriously, RIM, is this what you’re going to be like from now on? We all know that you have a touchscreen device in the 9500 and 9530 Storm, but you just have to make life difficult for all of us and make a half-assed attempt at keeping it secret, don’t you? We’re speaking from the BGR team here, but when so much stuff about a phone leaks before there is a public press release, you have to start thinking the words “controlled” and “leak”. Anyway, the latest in a shamefully long parade of leaks is a video presentation given to an Italian audience. It’s pretty nicely done and gives great insight into how OS 4.7 will work on a touchscreen device. Hell, it made us want one.

Yea that Steve Jobs “leaked” apology letter wasn’t staged or anything either. Suppose the fact that in general everyone knows what Apple is going to announce a few weeks before any of their conferences courtesy of leaks is accidental as well.
Seriously, though, every company in the world does this type of thing. It’s a great way to build hype without actually saying anything official.
There’s an actual term that has to do with this and I kept remember the word, something to do with Balloon. Basically, companies purposely leak info to build hype and they judge the markets reaction. If the reaction is negative, the company can pretty much deny the fact that the product even exists since they haven’t officially announced it or they can make changes.
Why do you think we have concept cars? It’s not just cause people want to build something crazy, a lot of it has to do with judging market reaction. If it’s favorable, you will typically notice that the concept eventually becomes a reality.
In fact, I don’t know what you’re complaining about Michael because if it wasn’t for this very simple rule that I’m talking about, there’d be no point to this site whatsoever. BGR and sites like it thrive off of this shit. If it was ONLY published/official news that you posted, there’d be no point to visiting this site.

@ dingoberry - excellent point. btw, i would love to have the iphone - on verizon. if the web browsing on this thing is even close to the storm then it will dominate. the only other killer app for me is the mobileme. it’s what really got me int. in the iphone and considering switching to att. the idea of entering contacts and meetings and having it sync on my mac is incredible. if bb can come out with that type of service for mac/pc then they’d have the whole package. this whole debate on the click screen doesn’t mean sh*t. i already have an ipod so i got that covered. either way, i’ll get this and then maybe get the iphone in a couple years when verizon gets it. i don’t understand all the vitriol back and forth. can’t we all get along?

Are you guys insane? Who gives a shit about this being leaked? For all we know the security there either didn’t notice it, or didn’t give a shit. Stop bitching about everything RIM, it’s getting old.

Very nice advertising…But..With good editing you could make a motorola razor look like a music playing, web surfing, video watching…iPhone killing machine. Until we can actually see this thing performing in real life situations I am not buying into it yet.

And it looks like a keyboard-less Blackberry Bold! Sweet!

jorGeorge: the RIM posts aren’t half as “old” as you RIM whiners. Seriously, who cares if anyone bashes RIM, Apple or anyone else? If you don’t like it, go somewhere else. It’s not complicated.

@dingoberry - thanks! had no idea.

Stop with all this drama ya’ll…let’s focus here. The Storm is one nice looking device! Blackberry + Iphone = perfection! The watchmakers that Mike Lazaridis hired did this phone justice! This will definitely be Blackberry heaven for most carriers!
1. AT&T - Blackberry Bold
2. Verizon - Blackberry Storm
3. T-Mobile - Blackberry Pearl Flip & Curve II

@ Dingoberry,
Fair comments, except that auto makers are up front and public with their concept vehicles. RIM has yet to publically acknowledge the existence of the Storm.
@ vz,
I’m not bitching about RIM. I’m just saying that this is a silly way to conduct business. If they publically acknowledged the phone they could create more buzz amongst the average consumer. This is why automakers are public with their concepts.

I do not own a single Blackberry or Apple device, so I am not biased like BG. I have no problem with the site and I visit every day to catch up on any news, but sometimes the bias is so obvious that it is worth mentioning. It gets kind of annoying, and although a lot of people complain about it, it is hard to dismiss and ignore, especially when every time there is an article about RIM/blackberries, it is negative.

@ jorGeorge,
Are you aware that most of the BGR staff, BG included, use a BlackBerry?
Speaking for myself, I am quite the BlackBerry fanboy. If the truth hurts, sorry.

Again, how is this biased when the author basically spoke for the team and said “we want one”? All that was said, was that the fact this is not officially announced yet. It is incredibly lame and stupid because the average person they are trying to sell this phone to doesn’t read BGR or any other major tech / rumors site daily. They started “leaking” crap too early and all that does is piss people off more. Example: May announcement for Bold = major FAIL. RIM still hasn’t got its shit together in the marketing department.
