HTC set to sell 13 – 15 million smartphones by year’s end

Apparently unaffected by the economy, HTC is predicting it will sell 13 to 15 million phones before 2008 is over. The majority of these phones are Windows Mobile devices, clearly a favorite of many business users and those who want alternatives to other handsets. Interestingly enough, they are expecting to sell only 200,000 Google/Android phones this year via T-Mobile. At 2% of their production rate, that is an extremely conservative number, especially given the hype of the G1 and how quickly pre-order stock ran out for that particular device. The bulk of these sales are to hit the U.S. and Western Europe with only 2 million devices landing in the Asia-Pacific region. However, if Conexus Mobile Alliance, a huge conglomerate of 10 Asian telecom companies (including NTT DoCoMo) hooks up with HTC, these numbers could sky-rocket. With all the popularity of the iPhone and Blackberry these days, it seems HTC is just confidently brushing its shoulders off.

Thanks, Harley C!

I’m waiting for the HTC HD to be sure. That looks like it will finally be the iphone killer.

Even with its quirks, I love the HTC Tyan II/Tilt. You have to give HTC kuddos for releasing devices like these.

Got my Touch Diamond a month ago. Loving it, especially the size. So pocket-friendly. And the TouchFLO 3D user interface is very eye-pleasing.

I love HTC…Still have the 6700 and waiting on an upgrade, which might be the Storm just for show and then switch to the touch Diamond, even though I want the Pro…I’m not surprised at how well the company’s doing since they are the main leading force behing Windows Mobile and constantly releases new products like every week, for EVERY PROVIDER. I honestly think they are the only ones with the right business model, which is why I get upset when people leave windows mobile out of the smartphone landscape simply because the G1 and the iphone came around. Technically, only Windows Mobile and Blackberries (and Symbian outside the US) count as real smartphone platforms. The other two are too infantile and won’t have a claim for a while. I’m very happy to hear this news about how well my favorite smartphone company is doing :)

HTC is great. Many of us T-Mobile customers are hoping for a WM 3G phone soon.

Yeah generic devices. They do work well but still think they mainly all look the same.

    Incorrect.

They all have different looks, but their guts are basically the same.

I’ve been an HTC fanboy for the longest time. I wanted to buy their stock, but it’s only listed on the Taiwanese exchange.

Yeah that must be why they aren’t affected by the economy.
