BlackBerry Bold training on AT&T cancelled due to launch delays

For realz, y’all. October 2nd was about as concrete as we were going to get, but the powers that be (RIM’s lack of focus on the OS) have interjected. We’ve been working on this story over the past couple days, and here is a quick rundown on what we’ve heard… The Bold, while originally set for a launch on October 2nd is still having OS issues and it’s been up to RIM to fix them. Normally BlackBerrys can glide through AT&T’s testing labs in a pretty short time frame. Something like 2-3 weeks. As you are all aware, not this time. Regardless of what the problem is, there’s no excuse for having probably the most botched launch in device history. Device training was supposed to start October 7th, but that has been pushed back now, and then there’s the launch parties coming up starting mid-month. We’re not going to give another predicted launch date until we can fully confirm it, so we’ll get back to you on that. Any RIM PR reps want to give us a ring and still tell us the device was never delayed? Suckaz. Hit the jump for an email explaining the delay and the postponed device training sessions!
Thanks, CrunkBerry!
As you are aware, with the anticipated launch of the 3G AT&T BlackBerry Bold, RIM has committed to hold training sessions in over 40 cities. A large number of these sessions were to take place this and next week. Due to the continued uncertainty of the device launch date, we will work with RIM to reschedule these sessions to a later date.
Any representatives that have registered will be informed by email of the schedule change. No action is required from your part.
Rescheduling the training to align with a final technical acceptance for BlackBerry Bold launch will ensure that:
a) the training material can cover all the feature functionality that will be on this device at launch (at this time we don’t have clarity on the status of all features).
b) handouts can be given to Dealers to reinforce the material covered
c) we will be able to provide attendees with a general availability date
c) the delivery of the material will be within one – two weeks of launch to ensure content retention and ability to practice what they learn in the field
d) the desired 30 person per session registration/attendance is achieved (training in the last week of a sales month at the end of a sales quarter should be avoided if possible)
Please let me know if any questions.
Thank you in advance for your understanding.

So, I wanna know those who have an unlocked Bold from Rogers. How is it working here in the US? Does anybody have one unlocked on a network besides AT&T? I know the 3g wont work but what about the bold on TMO or Another network? Any issues?
I agree about this device. It’s not anything ground breaking for RIM that the Storm may be. Better screen and browser but it looks like the same ol’ berry to me.
@WazzuKirk: The G1 does not have any enterprise mail solution so it’s pretty much useless for your average BB user. Android has potential but the G1 looks like another Sidekick incarnation. In other words, another tweener toy…
ewww BLACKBERRY BOLD are for POSERS!!
NOKIA E71 “the brad pitt of smartphones”
is for the true elite
I have the nokia E-71 TOO!!! truly the sexiest phone in history, with the personality to go with it to.
for some reason I think anyone walkin around with a blackberry seems Tacky, its like when the sidekick first came out and everyone had it.
november???
Hey – i am sorry if this is covered elsewhere but i have heard RIM is offering more Mac s/w uploading and better synchronization with the Bold – any truth to this?
thanks
Buzz Bell
I blame the iPhone for this. Steve Jobs must blow everyone in the Executive AT&T Mobility team. along with all you apple fanboys. Remember guys you meet on wednesday at the AT&T corporate building, as long as you keep doing that we will keep pretending your iphone is good.
LMAO—spider monkeys.
This is getting fking ridiculous. THere is a new release date every two hours. I am voting the release date to be October 1st since that is the only day that has not been used in the past year.
Yeah, I almost have to agree with one of the above posts.
I’ve had a Bold for 3 weeks now on Rogers and it’s solid.
Maybe I just lucked out, but it hasn’t frozen/locked up/shit itself yet.
I’m quite happy with it. Reception is great, and calls are loud and clear.
I really can’t believe how rank psyco some of the comments are on this story…relax homes…it’s just a phone.
people bitch about how bad ATT is and the fact that they dont give a shit about thier customers and all that care is about is money. Now the actually want to put out a quality product and yet they still catch shit for it. Sure they could of launched it with all the issues so it would give you guys something bitch about, ( like that takes much). I would rather wait till its perfect rather than take it and bitch everyday about it.
Guys, this DEFINITELY an ATT problem. I have an unlocked Roger’s Bold and it works perfectly well. The OS is very stable. I haven’t had a single problem with it. ATT is a joke.
This phone is kind of redundant. I know it has a slightly better screen. But other than that how is it really different then there current offerings?

november???
Just heard that Rim and AT&T have just joined forces on a new concept phone…………2 cans and a string! It will however work with AT&T’s 3G network; Success finally!
This is as simple as it is transparent: At&t is delaying what would likely be a very popular 3G device because their 3G network isn’t up to the job. They are already throwing a lot of resources at trying to make the iPhoney perform semi-decently on that network, and they likely don’t want to take on the load of a number of very demanding business customers crawling up their ass over a problematic Blackberry launch.
Does anyone really think that if Apple was happy with At&t’s network, they would be going back to the RF drawing board and designing a EVDOrA iPhone for Verizon? You know, that archaic, dead-end, 3G-but-not-really-3G-to-BG network that Verizon runs?
LMAO @ Terry.
They have created the concept phone, but the release date is slotted for October 2012. To satisfy illustrious demand for this new string and can 3G device, ATT is going to advertise the phone starting today until 2012 comes rolling around to make sure the market experiences crushed hype until hyperventilation is inevitable.
“So, um, can someone enlighten poor ignorant me on how ATT seemed to get such crap OS builds from RIM, while all the other carriers that have launched the BBB have managed to at least get a workable build?”

emag, you get the prize! I don’t know what AT&T PR rep is feeding BGR info but I have heard things differently.
RIM is having to make OS changes for AT&T because AT&Ts 3G network is craptastic. The changes in the OS are to overcome deficiencies in AT&Ts 3G implementation. This is why the rest of the world has the Bold and AT&T can’t get it to work on their network without special OS changes.
Only one network (AT&T) in the world needing special OS changes made more sense when I read Kevin @ crackberry.com’s problems with his Bold used on AT&T in NYC.
David: I’m just curious how YOU happen to know what time the AT&T Mobility team meets to blow El Stevo. . .are you there sucking too?
Want to know the real truth for the delay of the BB Bold. With the success of the 3G Iphone and the way it utilizes the AT&T data network. This has cause a conflict with the first 3g blackberry. AT&T is worry and trying to make sure that with the launch of the bold(and expected influx of customer added to their data network)that it does not further effect the pitiful performance of the 3g network and the iphone 3g.
Training for enterprise business sales is scheduled (and is still scheduled) for the week of the 13th…so I would not be surprised if the release date is in the 10/20-10/31 range.
I’m an AT&T agent. On Saturday, I posted on the Crackberry forums and tried to tip another blog that our Bold training was canceled. According to the e-mail from the site on which we registered, attblackberrytraining-dot-com, the sessions were canceled “at AT&T’s request.”
This launch is a total mess, and a clusterfrack for those of us waiting to own a Bold.
All you people saying “oh the OS is stable”. Are full of shit! Rogers launched with .125. Now go install .152 or .162 and tell me theres not a world of difference?? Hell it took RIM from .125 to .162 to get the the goddamn “Gold Code”?? Gimmie a break.
How can it not be AT&T’s fault? The Bold is running in third world countries and AT&T comes up with this? That’s classic. I too heard the OS was being reworked to adhere to AT&T’s 3G network.
It’s RIM’s fault because regardless of any specific AT&T issues, the OS as a whole is a piece of shit. This isn’t what we’re used to as a “RIM” release. The code is still buggy, there are random restarts, there are java errors, the browser has major problems, the device still overheats sometimes, etc and etc. Just look at any forum or talk to a power user who has one on any carrier. I second Stop-N-Go… honestly maybe 5% difference between .125 and .158 (latest I’m on). It’s crap, and RIM knows it crap, but they’re too busy with Storm. Hate to break it to y’all but Storm has major code issues as well.
