Verizon Wireless to get the iPhone?
“When hell freezes over” – that is when most people would assume Verizon Wireless will finally get its mits on the iPhone. Not so says an insider who, according to 9to5mac, claims that a deal is in the making with an announcement possibly coming as early as Macworld 2009. What about that whole exclusivity deal AT&T has with Apple? Well, 9to5mac points out that there are no public documents confirming the exclusivity length and with rumored dates ranging from 2 to 5 years we really don’t know how long AT&T exclusivity would last. After all, AT&T wouldn’t want us to know that their exclusivity is coming to an end soon, now would they? Irregardless, a Macworld announcement would set the exclusivity to 18 months and a WWDC would set it at 2 years which would be in line with some of the rumors floating around. With job postings for CDMA and EVDO engineers floating around Apple’s iPhone job board and Apple showing a willingness to bend their rules by unlocking the iPhone for the Hong Kong market, this rumor may not be so far-fetched after all.

I have to laugh, we all know Verizon will ruin the Iphone if it ever comes their way. Not to mention the increase in cost to use the phone and whatever else Verizon can squeeze out of you.
Irregardless is perfectly fine. It’s a blend of irrespective and regardless, used informally as a way to add emphasis. Sorry, but I dislike stilted grammarians. Besides, rules of grammar are subordinate to common usage.
I want other CDMA carriers to get too
i switched…
the iphone 3g is just a piece of work.. working thru is effortless.. its really different.
i had a verizon smartphone.. the smartphone sucks if one has laid hands on iphone..
i waited and waited.. i have been with verizon since i came to u.s. but in the end.. i said.. i need some real smart phone.. not just which is called smartphone..
thank you apple..
i am wondering.. does their notebooks work the same way..
will buy one later this year.. in need of upgrade..
first off verizon had the first option at the iphone and they didn’t want it because apple wouldn’t allow verizon to be able to put insurance on it. second off VZnav is only 9.99 a month. a you don’t need wi-fi to access the internet on any of the verizon phones such as the dare or the voyager. so before you make a comment on verizon make sure you have your facts straight
Irregardless is not a word.
This article may have been interesting, but I will never know since I stopped reading at “irregardless.”
The Storm will be coming out for AT&T, but Verizon will have it before then.
for 150 bucks i got a nice phone with unlimited texting and pic texting and unlimited incoming calls and a free itouch. i pay 40 bucks a month. ya i don’t get internet while not near a wifi area, but still, if you need internet THAT bad you need to check your priorities. either way, i beat you all. centennial wireless. bad part about it though, is that ATT is buying them out.
I still have an HTC XV6800 and wanted to get the iphone but all my coworkers who have them have a love hate relationship with it…mostly because of the service and dropped calls and such…some of the missing features are also a complaint (copy/paste, mms)…if the iphone came to Verizon though I think I would get it immediately…I checked out the Storm and it sucks…the screen touch click thing is not as responsive as the iphone…first try though, maybe it will get better with storm 2.0…also the applications and the phone itself are sluggish…my XV6800 is faster than the storm….
I have verizon wireless service and am still under contract for another 18 months. Is there anyway I can jump ship from Verizon so I can buy an iPhone and use AT&T service?
thanks for any info.
I dont think the Iphone would be available for Verizon. One there is a contract bet ATT and Apple until 2010. And Verizon would also want a phone that would be fully multimedia and would run on VCast (which is their version of Itunes)Apple makes money with itunes and this would be conflict of interest.
What i was thinking, Apple might come up with another phone for Verizon Wireless. They might give it a different name since the contract with ATT was for the ÏPHONE”.. They probably would call it a MACPHONE?????
I read your post right up until you used the word “irregardless.” What language is that? Dummy.
I’m a Sprintpcs fanboy as you say , but i’ll tell you what . I would NEVER give up my ppc 6800 simply because my phone does so much more than you’re ibrick . But it does have a better ui but still lacks what smart phones are supposed to do that is do everything you need . My phone allows me to download music anywhere I want without wifi or wires or getting f@cked by Steve Jobs . I can use my phone as a modem for free which the ibrick can’t even do , WTF about smartphone my ass . I have TRUE web browsing [ skyfire rules ] you’re precious ibrick can’t even do that , sorry you should’ve gotten a windows phone instead . I can also mod the hell out of this beast too , try that with you’re ibrick . Don’t get me wrong , i’m just sick and tired of hearing you apples idiots putting down window phones you gotta be jelous or something . Think about it people if apple products are some much better then why only 2% of the market is used by mac users . I use to have a mac laptop but I found that there wasn’t sh@t for software compared to windows . Yeah I never got a virus , well almost no virus . But I had more issues with THEM than I had WITH windows . I learned along time ago , nothings perfect . P.s. I would NEVER leave Sprint for at&t for nothing , they f@cked me over 6 yr’s ago in 2001 been with Sprint since and never looked back . Big red is good but plans are a joke , tmobile has nothing to offer me .
if nobody has pointed this out, “Irregardless” is not a word. at best, it is listed as “non-standard” in more liberal dictionaries.
Does anyone see Verizon “craptaculuar” interface on Blackberries? samsung Omnia? HTC? no. So what makes you think verizon is going to be putting it on the iPhone? on a second note to an earlier poster, verizon uses 1900mhx CDMA for data, and 800MHZ CDMA for voice, both can be done simultainously. I really hope this happens soon, we know it will happen eventually, it is a matter of when.
I have been on AT&T service before or should I say AT&T LACK of service their network sucks I can’t wait for the iphone to come to verizon I will not get one until it does. I would rather have the old brick Nokia ( you know the one I am talking about) on the verizon network than the iphone on AT&T.
why would you do that verizon has the best service out all providers
The dumb thing is Apple went to Verizon first bc they thought they would be the best fit for the iPhone. However, the people at Verizon didnt want to pay Apple a portion of their income from the iPhone. Wrong move Verizon. Now they are paying for it.
you realize you just used the phrase “luv ya” right? after commenting on the writers choice of words? hmmm…..
Apple went to Verizon first, yes. However they chose to move on when an aggreement couldn’t be reached. no one knows what the problems were just like no one knows what the length of AT&T’s contract is, so lets not assume here… Right?
I can’t trust this blog…. “irrigardless” is NOT A WORD!!!! the word is REGARDLESS! How do you expect anyone to take you seriously with such glaring grammar errors?
Does anyone remember WHY Verizon turned down the iPhone in the first place? Apple would run the software and customer support! Verizon runs the “phone” service. Verizon WANTED full control over the iPhone.
I am with verizon and I know how they like to “brand” their phones with their software or even their own logo.
Now since Android and the iPhone are making a KILLING and verizon WILL be opening up their “open device” lab soon. (any device could possibly run on verizon network)
I have very few doubts in my mind that an iPhone could end up at the VZW counter!
“irregardless” is not a proper English….
that would be so amazing if verizon got the iphone! i would defianetly get it!
i really hope they get it-and soon!
