Verizon Wireless to get the iPhone?

“When hell freezes over” – that is when most people would assume Verizon Wireless will finally get its mits on the iPhone. Not so says an insider who, according to 9to5mac, claims that a deal is in the making with an announcement possibly coming as early as Macworld 2009. What about that whole exclusivity deal AT&T has with Apple? Well, 9to5mac points out that there are no public documents confirming the exclusivity length and with rumored dates ranging from 2 to 5 years we really don’t know how long AT&T exclusivity would last. After all, AT&T wouldn’t want us to know that their exclusivity is coming to an end soon, now would they? Irregardless, a Macworld announcement would set the exclusivity to 18 months and a WWDC would set it at 2 years which would be in line with some of the rumors floating around. With job postings for CDMA and EVDO engineers floating around Apple’s iPhone job board and Apple showing a willingness to bend their rules by unlocking the iPhone for the Hong Kong market, this rumor may not be so far-fetched after all.

Can’t wait to see a 5 inch thicker iPhone…. Doesn’t that always seem to be the case with CDMA phones?

Im sick of people who think that Apple will never let Verizon have an Iphone because Verizon had their chance. These people are ridiculous and really need to take a basic Business course. Especially for the fact that Rim will be releasing great phones and most market analysts predict that Rim will do great with Bold and Storm.

On a more personal note, I cant wait to see an Iphone on the number 1 company for customer service- and also the company that will leap over At&t in number of customers once the Altell merger goes through.

Are You serious come on now listen to yourself rambling on and on about verizon replacing the iphone with a (LG) UI does that really make any sense to you. Not to me. Besides both sides have to come out on the plus side when it comes to the money aspects of the situation. So again tell me why LG would be the route verizon would go instead of the option of making their own or maybe keep the original UI and change more for the phone itself please inform me.

All of you, STFU about “irregardless.” If you are correcting the poster about the use of “irregardless,” you have no sense of humor, and you are a pretentious douchebag. You’re like people who correct split infinitives (even though they are not improper, just frowned upon), overpronounce the “H” in “white,” and make a big deal about the “T” in “often.” Get a life.

Hey Mikey. Forgive some of use for actually HAVING an education and trying to share. Someone who is writing professionally should do a better job of checking their grammar. I don’t think using the excuse of being a “swamp rat” is going to pass any muster. There are many well educated people from the South and this “swamp rat” comment just perpetuates the stereo type that people from the South are stupid.

Typos are excusable on blogs simply because many are written fast to “scoop” a story and lack of spell check in many browsers, especially in some cases mobile browsers. However, professional writers should know better when using words that do not exist.

It would be nice if some people knew what they were talking about BEFORE they posted.

Irregardless IS in the dictionary (therefore making it a word)… It is an adverb that is used in nonstandard speech and in causal writing.

If you want to make yourself look like an idiot that is fine, but before you try to make someone else look like an idiot you may want to actually know what you are talking about.

    Good day!

Verizon Wireless NEVER alters the UI of a SMARTPHONE (the iPhone DOES fall into this catergory). Also, you DON’T need WiFi utilize Google Maps. I have Google Maps on my Curve (which doesn’t have WiFi and it on Verizon Wireless). WiFi is a standard feature of the iPhone, I doubt IF Verizon Wireless got this phone they would remove it.

Interesting this may be, but I personally can’t see it happening. I’d think it’s a bit late in the game to enter the CDMA world when VZW is looking at LTE in 2010 and going forward. Unless Apple believes they’ll sell enough devices to justify the decision, it’s just really hard to believe. But if so, then happy times for those VZW users that didn’t make the switch because of the network.

I was preparing to go to AT&T because I am sick of Verizon screwing with their phones. The HTC Diamond Pro was the last straw. I already priced everything and was planning on leaving next week. Now I am not so sure. I may have to wait it out until Macworld to pull the trigger.
