Further to my last post…

Pros:
-actually has a decent carrying case
-SMS threads are back!!!

Cons:
-that stylus I mentioned has half fallen out 3 times now. Won’t be long before it’s gone forever.
-Again Flash Video Player isn’t supported (same as on my Treo and my iTouch) yet it has a YouTube quick launch button which reopens that old debate.
-QWERTY slide out requires a Function key to use to drawer characters, shift for capitals.
-Front panel buttons (Home, Back, etc.) feel chinsy when depressed as it runs against the casing.
-In general the unit “feels” cheap as the slide out keyboard isn’t super stiff.

Just picked up the HTC Touch Pro form Telus. Luckily I had a $0 dataphone upgrade on my account – which means I didn’t pay a penny for this thing. They offer 14-day trial period – and if I don’t like it, I’ll just reinstate my old Treo 700w (which I don’t want to do).

So far my take is mixed on it. Unless due to a setting I haven’t found yet – the screen only changes from portrait to landscape when you slide out the QWERTY (unlike iTouch or iPod). What’s nice is it has Opera as a browser on it and the WiFi Chip wasn’t ripped out (as is expected with the BB Storm).

I’ve noticed this puppy gets real warm real quick – and the battery life is pretty dismal at best…

Things they didn’t get right:
-Proprietary USB hookup (why can’t we have 1 standard!?!!?!?!?!)
-Headphone jack instead of being in phone is on the proprietary USB adaptor
-Stylus, though magnetized, is always pointing to the ground when talking on the phone – if it falls out I’ll be pissed.

Things they got right:
-Expandable MicroSD card (apparently a hack due out shortly will allow up to 128GB expansion!)
-Size/weight/dimensions
-Opera browser
-3.2MB full motion video/still camera
-640×480 res. I haven’t put it to the full test yet. Better out-preform the Storm
-Integrated WiFi
-Integrated GPS

That’s it for now. Hope it passes my drop tests while skiing!

thats good to know Cole and i also got my htc touch pro today and boy oh boy i havent stopped playing with it !!!! it is truly amazing and it surprises me that its based on a windows OS !!! not saying that the phone is perfect i mean it does freeze for a second or so as does any other phone but its awesome… i had the iphone for 4 months and i was so fed up cuz it froze and crashed alot… and ironically enough the windows phone didnt have any of those problems… yet !

Got mine today, very slick. No complaints so far!
As for your comment about the Storm Ricky, my friend at Telus explained to me today that the Europe released Blackberry and the one that is scheduled for december here in Canada are not made by the same company. Blackberry Canada has “apparently” had the storm on the drawing board longer than they did in Europe, and has spent more time working out the bugs. Or so I’m told…

But after getting the Pro today, I’d stick with it over the storm too.

i was going to buy the Blackberry Storm at first but after reading ALL the negative reviews about it from UK release i was GLAD this came out on time. once i saw the video review i knew i had to buy this phone !!!

So they’ve finally got the Pro up on the Telus website; don’t know if it’s in stores yet, but it carries a no contract price of $649.
I don’t know, having a physical keyboard, flash, a little more memory, and a spot for a memory card really worth $150 more then just picking up the diamond??

Apparently some of the ads Telus has for the Pro are very similar to the ones for the Blackberry Storm, and they got the “dummy models” at the same time. A girl I know who works at Telus said today that she hasn’t been told anything official, but she suspects they will be released at the same time! December third is three weeks away. How much longer can they delay it!?

I’d hate to pay $300, and then a year later have a whole new bunch of better phones come out when TELUS provides GSM service. I like the idea of GSM because then I can have a work phone, a beater phone, a travel phone etc whilst keeping the one GSM card.

Maybe I should just keep my HTC Touch until then? What do you think? Yeah, I hate typing on the screen, that’s why I like the keyboard – but I can live with it. Advice?

I believe that the plans will change before november second… that is when the Pro is suppose to be released in sprint stores…but who knows?…best buy already has it for sprint…299.99 after a two year contract…plus i think that rewards memebers get a 20 percent off before the first..go figure

I was just in my local Best Buy store and the HTC Touch Pro is on the shelf! No contract pricing. They have stock sitting there in the locked cabinet below the displays…..

$649.00

I called Telus right from the store and they couldn’t find it in their catalog and they are upgrading their system so they couldn’t access my account either.

In actual fact, all Telus dealers were told earlier today Oct. 16th, to put away all periphenelia pertaining to the Touch Pro until it’s official release. This, and Future Shop’s gaff, makes me believe that the Touch Pro may be further away then expected. Perhaps even November…but that’s just coming from a dealer’s point of view. Too bad, because I can’t wait for it.

Future Shop’s flyer for October 10-23 has the HTC Touch Pro on page 19 here in BC.

Pricing: 239.99 on a 3 year plan and a $50 gift card thrown in.

Telus doesn’t have it listed in their website and a call to them says it is not available yet. My dealer also says not yet.

A call to Future Shop reveals that they don’t actually have stock yet either.

honestly it looks like a mistake to me too. ive had 3 different sources all cliam the pricing i provided to bgr. that is why she probably said the pricing was a mistake. but one of my sources did say he felt the price was too high so may be a an error. anyways well find out in the next day or 2

ok,who ever is not happy with the phone prices.those phones (pda)’s r 800 dollars & up.TELUS gets a deal & pays for the phones ,gives it away as a laoner on a 3 year contract so that u won’t get the phone & leave next day.it’s their right to do so.rogers obliged you to take a 90 dollars plan with their crappy iphone. check htczs websites min the phones cost 800 dollars & up. TELUS needs @ least 2 years to replace every phone it gives away.the last year will be a profit to the company.who else gives u a phone? eh?

I was at the Telus Eaton Center store and I saw a tag on display for the Htc Touch Pro. When I asked about it the rep said Telus is not getting the Pro and that tag is for the recently released Touch Dual. I think the rep did not know what she was talking about as the specs on the tag were clearly that of the Touch Pro and pricing was lower than mentioned in this article. I took some pics for evidence will try to upload and post a link soon.
