Samsung Pixon M8800 digital camera also features a phone
Everyone and their grandmother rocks a camera phone these days. We’ve finally reached a point where even the cheapest of cheap entry-level handsets is at least packing a 1.3 megapixel shooter, allowing user to capture those dark, fuzzy, pixelated memories while on the go. Samsung’s freshly-announced handset however, the Pixon M8800, should most certainly not be lumped into the same category as these shoddy camera phones. In fact, it’s more of a “phone camera” than a camera phone. Sure it can make calls, send and receive messages, browse the web and handle a few games, but none of those features will even be a consideration for would-be owners. No, it’s the 8 megapixel camera and the wide array of top-notch photo and video features that take center stage here. In fact we’re going to list them separately in the specs since the rest is really just gravy:

- ASR (Advanced Shake Reduction)

That’s right people, we weren’t joking. The Pixon M8800 is strictly business when it comes to photos and video. The rest of the story; Meh.

So there you have it people - Samsung’s new Pixon M8800 phone camera. As far as a launch schedule goes, it will be available in France sometime near the middle of October and will then be released throughout Europe and Asia. As for US availability… Please, this is Samsung we’re talking about here.

I’d settle for either this one or the i900. However, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing either of them in the good ole US anytime soon.

This is cool and all but the US carriers haven’t even gotten to a 5 megapixel camera yet. I highly doubt we’ll get an 8 this or next year.

Is the t919 confirmed for sure for TMo in Nov, or is that just rumored…?
Some things about this phone sound kind of cool - the accelerometer navigation for photos, geotagging, fast shutter, slo-mo vid… Sounds like a really flexible camera to always have with me. The phone part of the equation is a little disappointing. How long before we can have both??

That is one sexy camera phone. I think those of us in the states should just get used to never having fun gadgets that dont cost a fortune to import. That won’t happen until people stop buying contract only phones, so there is actual competition. Nevermind only having two national gsm carriers…
How long before nokia makes an N95 with a full keyboard, a newer image sensor, triband 3G, and a polished multitouch screen… Probably never, but one can hope. Btw, i have the e71-2 and i love this beast. :p

While the camera specs are definitely beyond AMAZING, not having optical zoom is still a bummer. It’s not like the Samsung hasn’t included it before.

I call BS on this being able to be a phone-camera… based on the fact that it still has a cheap plastic lens.
Until manufacturers can get quality optics to those high-resolution sensors, it is all a big waste of time and meaningless.

Although not officially announced, there is overwhelming evidence of a Nov 3 release of the T919 to Tmo. I have personally spoken to employees that have played with it.
If you like Camera phones, watch for the Motorola ZN5, it has a 5mp Kodak camera.
