you CAN have an sms option WITH the email forwarding!!! lols Just figure out what your carriers email for you sms phone number is. for instance t-mobile users just put there phone number @tmomail.net, like this: 2225556666@tmomail.net (with the 2’s being your area code obviously) and then you will get an sms everytime your email gets forwarded. it works! i tried it!! all the major carriers have systems like that…

also, thank you sam SO much for the “epc.tmobile.com” i didn’t know anything about the apn changing, but that was THE thing that allowed me to FINALLY get Beejive working on with t-zones!!!! i had tried everything and basically given up. thanks SO much for sharing.

Contrary to what some officials in Washington might want to change, this country is still a free market system. A person has the right to charge for an application whatever he wants and you have the right to no buy it. There are free and lower cost options for this service. However, you usually get what you pay for. Not too many people/organizations are going to write quality software for free.

I’m sure that most of you have never written a piece of software or done much more than flip a burger; so what gives you the right to dictate how much a software developer charges for their product? You have no idea the man hours that go into something like this and those costs must be considered in the pricing of a product.

Your iPhone will continue to work just fine with out any applications so feel free not to buy any. Just stop bitching about what you can’t afford. OR your could try writing your OWN chat program and see how far that gets you. If you do spend weeks or months writing one, and it works better than anything else out there, be sure to submit it to Apple then let us all have it for FREE.

I have used Palringo and honestly they have a great app too (I love the push to talk feature), but at the moment, BeeJive is winning this round.

You get what you pay for. People are quick to pay $10 for a game they probably don’t play half as much as they thought they would, I use IM occasionally, and probably could have saved the $$ but when I do use it, I want it to work. The developer has to have a reason to continue to make a great app, I don’t think the price is outrageous. I mean when you look at this, we have a $300 phone, a $30 data plan (without text messaging)… no insurance, so another $15 is nothing, unless you’re living beyond your means. (And I am no where near rich)

That said, Palringo is absolutely amazing. I understand that the first versions were extremely buggy and prone to crashing. The latest release has rectified these problems, I can’t get it to crash.

The ability to send voice messages or photographs or set up your own chatrooms in Palringo is really revolutionary for a mobile client. I got a kick out of sending voice messages back and forth to a guy driving in his car in Australia while I live in Salem, Massachusetts. Very well implemented.

Only concerns with Palringo; it goes through battery power like there is no tomorrow, it really can’t keep you online in the background, at least not reliably, and there is no offline notification. I’m sure they are working on these issues.

It will be interesting to see what these two companies are going to come up with in the future. My money is on Palringo to beat out Beejive in features in the long run.

Palringo after the recent updates is fantastic. It stays logged in even after exiting, zero crashes, no more connection issues. Also has support for sending voice notes over IM, and sending full resolution pics.

And it’s free.

What in it’s feature set makes bee jive worth $15?

Is that the best you’ve got? And who said anything about advertising such as direct ads or banner ads? We’re talking about behind the scenes and why everything seems so pro Apple/AT&T when you post articles pertaining to either company. I’m not the only one here that has pointed out the obvious.

As for the BB, I run the 4 different IM apps at no cost via VZW…AIM, Yahoo, GTalk, MSN. Zero cost. All work perfectly fine. Does that make me or anyone else less serious if we didn’t spend the $16 for consolidation, if everyone even uses more than one or two IM apps?

Honestly, I’ve enjoyed reading your stuff the day you started this site, and while you may still pull out inside info on releases, etc. which I still enjoy, I find that much of the writing pertaining to certain companies is with bias. Professionals write without bias.

BG and the BGR crew offer up a bread and a variety flavored butter, so to speak. If you don’t like the flavor, you can always butter your bread someplace else.

Heck, if it really bothers you that the crew busts off too much Apple, ATT, (insert gadget, provider, opinion of choice here…) content, hit up another site that doesn’t charge as much as BGR does to read said content…. {sarcasm alert… :- }

Honestly dude, enough with the AT&T/Apple shit. Maybe you’re too stupid and ignant to notice, but Apple and AT&T aren’t even advertisers on this site, and if you see an AT&T ad, it’s not placed direct. $16 is not a lot of money for a piece of well-made software. For christ sake the BlackBerry version is $30 and you’re bitching about $16? Why? Because you’re used to the peasant apps for $0.99? Grow up. If you can’t afford $16 then that’s fine, but don’t pretend that it’s too much money for a quality application.
