AT&T’s Pantech Matrix gets viewed and spec’d

Hated the Pantech Duo but loved the form-factor? Well, AT&Tizzle is looking to grab you as a potential customer with the Pantech Matrix. It uses the same dual-slide mechanism as the Duo, but sadly runs Pantech’s run-of-the-mill OS. There are at least some decent features here. Things like dual-band UMTS/HSDPA, a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Video Share, a QWERTY keyboard and numeric keypad. You even get to choose your own color; red, blue, or black. That seals the deal for us. We’ll be first in line. If you’re ferocious enough, hit the jump for the full product sheet!

Did you buy it online or in store? I’m interested but want to see it in store first. Thanks!
For the people who have mentioned that there is no way to change their message tone, try this tip I found. (I found it on the review for the red Matrix on the AT&T website) I don’t have this phone yet – mine is coming in the mail tomorrow – so I don’t know if this works, but I guess it’s worth a try.
“there is a way to change ur message tone, u need to go to the profiles menu and scroll to the profile u want but instaed of just clikin ok click options and customize and it will elt u change it to ne right u have on ur phone under mp3 format”
Hope this helps. Like I said, I don’t have the phone, so I haven’t tried it.
And p.s. I am an adult who texts a lot, and I am looking forward to having a qwerty keyboard phone that doesn’t charge me a small fortune in monthly data fees!
I have had the Matrix for two weeks now…My phone will no longer let me listen to a song and when I get a text it will only vibrate if I try to call or get a call I can not hear out of the phone itself, but if I have my blue tooth head set attached I can hear music, and make and receive calls where the person can hear me and I can hear them. Does nyone know if I caused this to happen or is there a defect in my phone???
I got one last week and the only problem I have with the phone is the battery life…
I just got this phone on Wednesday ( the 22nd) I had no idea what it was, but I like the phone in general. I have ringtones because of bluetooth, and I can listen to music just fine. I will admit, though, that I am not happy with the battery life on it. I just bought it Wednesday ( It’s Monday) and I have charged the phone three times including today. What’s it going to be like in one year when my contract isn’t up in order to get a new phone? Is the battery life only going to last a couple of hours before I have to charge it?
I do text quite a bit, but not anymore on this phone than I did on my previous phone that I had for over two years, and the battery life by the end of that period was about the same as the battery life on my Matrix. BOO. lol. I do like the quality of the phone though. It’s just what I need, but it sucked today when my battery died in the middle of class.
Can anyone help me figure out how to put my own MP3 ringtones on the Matrix. I was told by At&T that it couldn’t be done, but I assume someone has a way.
Thanks,
Paul
Ok I have the phone and love everything about it. but my texting takes for evr i send a message and the person doesnt get it for another hour? i receive them find but it takes for ever to send them? Is any1 else having promblems with this or anything that i can do to fix it cause i really love the phone but it sends messages slower that a snail even when i have full bars
Finally phones without the $30/month package. F that, I hate douche bags who sit on their Blackberries everywhere they go. Leave work at work. Get a girlfriend not a smart phone.
It is ironic how they call it a smart phone yet the people who blow an extra $30/month to pasify themselves in elevators and in line at the supermarket are so damn stupid.
Why do you need a good OS? Just what the fu ck is it that you do on your phone that is so important that you need a good OS?
Sending e-mails to other douche bags like yourself?
Go ahead stupid buy that $500 phone, some executive in Canada or at Apple is laughing all the way to the bank at your senseless infatuation with gadgets.
Does this phone have a lock like the pantech dou where no one can access anything?
cause my mom is nosey
I have one of these… I like it, but agree about the battery life.
I don’t use the phone much, but in the first week I had to charge it 3 times… my old phone would go almost 2 without a charge… It has seemed to get a little better now… I went 4 days before I needed a charge this last time.
I was able to put my own MP3 ringtones on it useing the MicroSD card.
There does seem to be a size limit for the ringtone files (about 300K… unless the issue was something else) but I’m still experimenting as the manual doesn’t say anything about it… This may be standard with ringtones, but this is my fist phone that would do MP3 ringtones.
Is anyone having trouble with the slider becoming unhitched? The first one we bought, a screw came loose so they exchanged it. Now this one is getting loose.
does anyone know how to change the sound when you get a text message? the sound really annoys me lol
yes. When you want to change a ring tone/message tone etc. You go to your menu, then down to 9. Settings. Then you hit the profile button (1), When you get to the profile page, you hit options (the one on the left) and the go to Customize, go down to message sound, and there ya go =D. You can also go through that process to turn off the button tones too. I had a hard time figuring out that you could do that. My friend played with my phone for ten minutes and found it. brat. lol Hope that helps!
wow, you guys are lame, its a phone
LUV the PHONE-
I love the duo slide-it’s so chic
I’m sick and tired of hearing about iphones…i like matrix..
it’s cheaper and it’s different..and easy~
OMG! THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH! THIS WORKED IMEDIATELY AND IT WAS NOT IN THE INSTRUCTION BOOKLET! THANKS AGAIN!
My 15 yr, like most teens, knew about it before it was widely publicized. He knew his mother just wanted a texting phone without all that pda stuff and extra $$$. (Smart dumb phone?) It’s fast, it’s cool. Black is the best color, better color contrast on the keyboards than the red or blue’s gray on gray keyboard — I returned the blue soley for that reason. Overall, I LOVE THE PHONE. One problem though…
When texting it seems I sometimes hit some wrong key on the right. My message gets killed midstream, phone goes to start up mode with AT&T logo thing, then I have to start the text all over again. Has anyone else had this problem?!
Also don’t like that you can’t set a default number for contacts with multiple numbers. Also labels for the phone numbers are fixed — can’t be changed (Mobile, Home, Office, Fax, Other — period). Bummer, but I’ll live.
i followed those instructions to put an mp3 as my txt ringtone, but it only plays for about a second and a half and stops… anyone know how to change this?
I LOVE THE MATRIX IT IS A GREAT PHONE…I HAD THE DUO AND IT WAS SOOOO SLOW AND ALSO WOULD BLACK OUT ON ME FROM TIME TO TIME…I WAS WAITING FOR A PHONE LIKE THE MATRIX TO COME OUT THAT WAS A NON PDA… IT DOSE EVERYTHING I NEED IT TO DO… IN ALL REALLY A GREAT PHONE…
Wow…your freakin lame
sandera, it’s spelled you’re not your
let me put it in context: Sandera you’re illiterate.
Is anyone experiencing disruption while typing a text message?
Occassionally it abruptly goes to start up mode while I’m texting, completely killing the text message. Does not save it to drafts either. I have to then start all over from scratch.
This has happened to me a lot. Has anyone else experienced this?!
I am having the same problem. When the keyboard is out, the stupid phone restarts in the middle of a text message. I brought it back to AT&T they looked at me like I was nuts, replaced it, and the new one is STILL doing it. Such a pain. Have you heard anything else about this?
Sent myself an mp3 – 164kb – and it plays, but how do I save it as a ringtone? Can’t find any options that will make it happen – or do I get a magic wand when I buy a micro sd card, opening menus I never had without one?
