iPhone OS 2.2 being seeded to devs

If only we could be sure this update includes that oh-so-coveted background push notification… In any case, it’s great we’re seeing a new OS version following 2.1 so closely, that can only mean good things, people. Good things. Any devs out there that want to fill us in on what 2.2 has in store for us?

Thanks, Rick!

apple could seriously raise some corporate eyebrows with future OS updates and especially if they can push them out quickly.

I am hopeful for this update. I really hope it will focus on stability, MobileMe functionality and not on piling on new features before the existing features are solid. But I agree w/level…if Apple can get into a regular battle rhythm with updates, we’d be thrilled.

Their e-mail app needs some serious updating… How hard would it be to add search? I also hope they fixed the “push” bug (seems like only way I can get mail is when the device is awake)

And they need to fix the browser so that it doesn’t self-exit so much.

    According to the readme notes:

Beta 1 is a bug fix release to begin testing for compatibility

** gotta love Apples descriptive release notes… NOT

Yeah, my Safari crashes constantly after the last update, kind of like having a car that somebody suped-up speed wise, but every quarter mile veers off the road into a ditch… not very helpful…

Fix Safari. Fix Safari. Fix Safari

Let us use perhaps as many as TWO Safari windows at ONCE without sending us back repeatedly to the Home Screen.

Well, I think we can affordably say that if the updates don’t work out we can get the Google G1, and start all over with an absence of light sheet of paper!!!

Hope they bring out the 2.2 firmware update for the iPod Touch 2nd gen that fixes the apple lossless skipping issue that is present in firmware 2.1.

For such a great device they seem to be issuing a lot of updates for it. Since i got my Smartphone I have received zero “official” updates because it was made by a company that really wanted to focus on security instead of integration with a personal media device…

What about AIM not working in the background? Does this phone do any multitasking at all?

And another OS release only means that iPhone 3G buyers bought a beta device, with beta software on July 11, and forward. Who releases THIS many updates in a little more than a month??

    Disappointing and embarrassing.

The reason for the updates are simple… Apple wants this thing to be perfect. Secondly to answer Chris, most phone makers do not care once the phone is released thus, you have hackers making roms for them to run better. I do agree we have some problems name a phone on the market that doesn’t. The Iphone is a great phone and device, if you don’t like it go get a G1 and see how quick you will be back

Seriously can all you apple fanboys or even just you normal idiots, not see how shitty thr iphone is. Ok let’s look at the downs. P.O.S can’t multi task no push notfications AIM doesn’t work unless its up same for lots of apps that’s stupid as hell. No MMS or copy and paste! How effing retarded is that? Video recording is simple but they don’t want you to have subpar quality video on the device and apple’s too stupid to put a good camera in it. No flash crashes constantly keyboard sucks battery blows. I’m not hating on apple I have a touch and a macbook air but seriously the iphone is the worst feature phone out there but ppl are conformists so if one idiot buys it 300,000 more must have it. Blackberry storm is better by far but its on americas worst network. Sorry for the rant to all you non iphone users. BG your totally an apple fanboy. Lol

MikeTheSith: You’re the reason no one takes criticism of Apple seriously anymore. Calling people “idiots” for making a personal choice based on their own preference makes you sound even worse than an Apple fanboy in every conceivable way.

Is it just me or do I notice that every time Apple has released a software update for the iPhone to “fix” issues, it actually brings a few more with it…lol

Yeaaa…no thanks! I’m so glad I never bought an iPhone. :0)

This phone is NOT a smart phone at all. Its a toy!
And everyone get frustrated as soon as they need the “real thing”, that this super cool toy would, could or should do. So this is the toy to make you dream about what you need… Once you know what you need just ask for it, pay for it and of course wait in line to get it on Apple Store.
No push, no notifier, no Voice over IP apps, all things that are nice on a smart phone.
No cam on the phone side (its an (I)Phone)! I guess once again we should wait for the next generation. Apple fan are use to it ;o)

The iphone is better than you know…. I know it doesnt come out the box with all those features but does a computer you buy brand new come with everything …..NO…If you jailbreak it and install Cydia you can have a video recorder, a app to run things in the background and every thing else so you do your research slim
