Skyfire enters public beta

The mobile browser arena just got a little more competitive on Tuesday when the much-talked-about mobile browser Skyfire launched its public beta. Previously in private beta, the now public version opens up Skyfire to anyone in the US with a Windows mobile or a Nokia Nseries / Eseries S60 (3rd Edition) phone. Skyfire also received a version upgrade from 0.6 to 0.8 that features improved video streaming, faster page loading, the ability to download images and PDF files, and a redesign of the interface to incorporate more icons and less text. Best of all, Skyfire, unlike its competitors (cough, Opera Mobile) comes in at a nice price. It’s free!

I’ve been using the private beta for awhile now, without any problems whatsoever and it has been great. I loaded the new public beta, and it’s crashed on me three times in 30 minutes.

    PLZ TO PORT TO ANDROID?

Not that I have anything against “Chrome Light” as developed by Google, but I just like to have options, especially when the options are good ones.

ALERT FOR ALL THOSE ABOUT TO INSTALL/UPGRADE!

They are experiencing problems with many users not being able to log in the first time they open the browser. They are working on it, but make sure you follow the relevant threads in their forums (http://support.skyfire.com/forums) and make sure the problem is solved before making the jump to .8, especially if you have a working .6 version.

Ya. I’ve been having the login problem ever since I upgraded from .6.

Not that it matters much. Opera Mobile is a better browser. Skyfire has some pretty awesome bells and whistles. Opera Mobile is easier to use, though.

Same issue here. Unable to log in after installing.

Changing my password (on the PC) and then logging out of their site (on the PC) worked.

Just go reset your password on their website, once you get the new password it should work, atleast it did for me.

Also, I sure wish Google would port Chrome to WM and BlackBerry.

By the way, they better have brought back Rhapsody.com streaming access. On demand access to Rhapsody’s entire catalog, FTW!

I can’t get this sky fire thing to work at all on my BlackBerry Curve. I’ll stick with Opera.

My AT & T rep, what does he know, says late october for Bold. If Storm drops first, I’m switching. Seriously.

I wonder if the sky fire thing will work with a newer BlackBerry, like aforementioned Bold, Storm, or flip or javelin. Or iPhone, for that matter. I suspect not. And therefore I’m going o pass on grass. I mean, seriously, WTF?! Why get wound up on a program that one can’t get to work on the dominant devices? What the F am I going to put it on? A Q?? A blackjack. How stupidis that?

Skyfire works on my Nokia E71 and they upgraded from the private beta. The “menu” tab is now shown in the lower left for the E71 (landscape), where it should be. It used to show on the right side (thinking the screen was in portrait). But Ive had no problems so far on the Nokia E71. I love this web browser! Hands down the fastest and most functional web browser Ive used. Although I still like the built in S60 browser for light web surfing. Skyfire is blazing fast, ive tried it on WiFi and 3G and have had no disappointments.

Yea I like this browser a lot except when I was using the beta on my WinMo phone I could not get the sound to work for some odd reason. I still have it and it works fine but I hope they release a blackberry one soon so I can put it on the Storm soon as I get it
