LG Xenon hitting AT&T before Christmas?

We just got our perfectly manicured hands on a photo of what we’re told is the LG Xenon. It was described to us as being in AT&T’s labs right now undergoing testing, and it should be available before Christmas. As you can see, it’s a slider device with a full QWERTY keyboard. It’s also got UMTS/HSDPA, a 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, an accelerometer, and even a proximity sensor. Here’s the run down on all the specs:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz)
  • 950 mAh battery
  • It’s physical size is 105.5 x 53.5 x 15.8 mm
  • 240×480 2.8″ LCD
  • 3 megapixel FF +VGA (VT)
  • 100MB of memory with microSD support up to 16GB
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • USB 2.0
  • Wi-Fi
  • EMP U330 Lite Chipset

All in all, not bad LG. Not bad.

Thanks, Daddy G.!

I have a question. How exactly are you supposed to navigate the menus on this phone? There doesn’t appear to be any navigational keys

850/2100? That makes no sense for AT&T.

very interesting. reminds of a more polished version of the lg rumor from sprint.

at&t needs to come out with a sidekick competitor, that would be hot.

there are no navigation buttons on the phone because it is a touchscreen. do you really think that with the common trend of having touch screens on every brand, or having an accelerometer that LG would not make this phone with a 2.8″ LCD that it would not be a touchscreen? to comment on LG being stupid for not having the space button in the middle, its not in the middle for the fact that with it in the middle they would have to move more buttons or add buttons to make it look normal instead of adding another row of keys just to put the space in the middle… with another row on the keyboard therefore makes the phone wider, making the screen look smaller or having to put in a larger screen… so stupid design? i think not… sure it could have looked better but i bet the functionality of this phone will be stellar!

Love’n the blue. Not sure if I like that keyboard or not though. I’d have to have it in my hands to check it out.

Wait, 2100 MHz UMTS, this is either bad info or ATT is starting to use their 2100 licenses, which would be sweet :P

Those specs sound more like the LG CT810 that is Windows based. Plus the fact no such dumbphone on the field schedule for testing. It would hit the lab first and then the field about 2 weeks later. Currently there is no such device under test in the lab. Sorry BGR, you got bad intel this time.

    P.S. I field test devices for AT&T. :-)

I think this phone is pretty cool. With messaging of every kind becoming more popular, one would imagine that phones like this would soon be replacing your standard numeric keypad phone. Well, maybe not but messaging fiends who don’t do much web browsing might like this. And as far as the spacebar being on the side, it might have been done to conserve space and keep the phone from being too wide. Most people use their right thumb for hitting the space bar anyway (on computers and phones).

Wouldn’t be surprised to see the same UI as on the VU. wi-fi on the xenon vs. tv on the VU. I work at ATT retailer location and the only device we’ve been harassing ATT to offer is a QWERTY non-pda. This is going to be a monster for the holiday season. Expect to see ALOT of marketing for this device.

Yeah Att needs this device. Look at all the Verizon Eny2’s and Voyagers out there. Att has NOTHING to compete with right now.

Why did AT&T & LG include Wi-fi? I have a feeling this is going to be Window-mobile phone which means you need to get 30 dollars data package.

A qwerty dumbphone from AT&T is exactly what I have been waiting on for the wife. Unfortunately, we just got on contract last month and she got a Shine. Maybe it will be worth paying the non-contract price to get her the phone for Christmas.

These specs seem incomplete? Why have WiFi with out a an OS or browser support? Sounds like it is a Widows Mobile phone and to pricey to be a big hit. What AT&T need is a Basic Text phone like the LG Voyager/Envy line.

So I’ve been looking at the pic. See the little white dash above the c/back arrow key. I saw a phone recently in my store that was an unlocked LG that had the same form factor as the shine on att and the glimmer on alltel. the difference was that instead of a joystick (att) or touchscreen (alltel) it had a scroll bar. similar to a trackball, just no side-to-side motion. looks like they may have incorporated that idea on this here xenon
