The delay was predictable, but having said that i don’t know why people are so down on WM 6? Compared to the Iphone OS it is miles ahead. It allows third party apps to improve its UI, it allows software that can be written by you and i. The Iphone OS while it has a great UI is totally rigid and to me this makes it immediatly outdated.

If this is true, which MS has not officially announced, then it’s not a good move. However, with all the money MS has, as Mangenius said, they can make a pretty good OS this time around. I like WinMo except for the freezing issues.

Microsoft never came out with an official release date. And Microsoft never reported this news. So, I could care less. Had they officially announced a release date and THEN delayed, then I could see why this would be news.

I used to have some enthusiasm for MS products (Word 2007 is a good example), but the hits are few and far in between a far greater number of mediocre delayed products. This is the largest software company in the world and it is arguably close to 2 generations behind in phone and desktop OS’s. We won’t even talk about the net.

The funny thing is, they sponsored a product placement advertising mini-series on Hulu. Now I watched exactly 4 seconds of it before I realized it was just one big commercial but it showed a wicked phone with a wicked UI. That was Microsoft’s marketing – WHY CAN’T THEY BUILD THAT?

Does it seriously have to be ulgy as sin and confusing? Stability aside, eventually Microsoft works out the kinks and it becomes stable. Windows XP Pro SP3 with minor tweaking is ROCK solid. Hell, even Vista SP1 (*GASP*) can be relatively problem free with some minor tweaking.

Look at Vista – my biggest problem with Vista? They got rid of WinFS, the command console and all the cool stuff for a stupid UI that’s ugly. Look at Mac OS X – its clean, refined, yet modern. Easy to navigate. Don’t have windows do everything for me, I can do it myself – just give me what I need. Instead they have windows automagically do everything which it doesn’t.

MS seem most comfortable with exceeding the competition. When they are outfront they more often than not stall totally (see: Netscape vs IE vs Firefox etc etc).

I hope the delay signals a serious repositioning of their mobile os segment into a competitive development path.

Im not sure how you can say the iphone is better than WM7 when the damn thing hasnt been launched yet..

I know Microsoft has put some crap out in the past but depending on how bad they want the mobile market dont forget that youre dealing with a very rich company which can make things happen

Amid increasing competition from both Apple, RIM, and Google Microsoft really needs to step their pace up, yet this recent news seems to demonstrate that they’re committed to just the opposite.

Looking at this optimistically maybe its better they delay the launch in favour of a smoother, more feature rich OS. The fact that RIM/Google/Apple have all announced (and launched) some kickass devices this might be enough for Microsoft to put some more time thought and $$ into this for a better product?
