Blackberry Storm to come in 2 flavors, CDMA/GSM Hybird and GSM only model

The folks over at Blackberry News got a hold of spy shot of 9500 series Job Aid that confirms the existence of a GSM-only variant of the Blackberry Storm. So we have a North American Variant headed to Verizon (and possibly Bell) and now a European Variant most likely headed to Vodafone. The document lists the following specs:

  • 7.2 Mbps HSDPA/UMTS (2100/1900/850 MHz)
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • 1GB of memory, 192MB RAM
  • 1400 mAhr battery. Standby time: 528 hours
  • MicroUSB port
  • MicroSD and MicroSDHC expandable up to 8GB
  • 3.2 megapixel camera, flash, 2.5x digital zoom, auto focus, and image stabilization
  • Video capture. Normal mode (480×320) and MMS mode (176×144)
  • Assisted GPS – Enhanced version of GPS that performs at a faster speed

Thoughts? No Wi-Fi really sucks…

Sooo, by Q1 next year, we’ll have the 9510 going to at&t…

Then by Q2, there will be the 9520 to T-Mo.

Oh, wait, I must be wrong because Verizon has an “exclusive” on this handse…..HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Damn, I almost got through that with a straight face…

Wifi is not needed for the CDMA model, unlike AT&Ts horrible 3g coverage that need WIFI.
Verizon has the best hi speed data network, so WIFI is not needed.

It will be interesting to see how the Touch screen holds up after the Youtube vid.

@NoBAMA: It’s a genuine McShame that you lack the integrity to speak any truth, even on the low-end scale of cell provider service and support. Coverage in one area does not equate to coverage in another, despite your universal claims otherwise. :)

    @ Gino:

Are you an idiot, or can you simply not read? GSM-only phone does not mean that the phone will be making its way to at&t or T-Mobile. It will be arriving in North America, specifically CANADA via Bell or Rogers. So, yes, the lifetime exclusive in the U.S. still holds.

Does that mean you can’t have the Storm on GSM? No. You can still have it if you want to pay upwards of the probably $500-700 out of contract price. But judging by your inability to reason, I doubt you have that kind of money laying around.

Taylor thanks for doing my job for me. Right now they have the exclusivity but I do not know how long that is supposed to last. Also, here are the account manager slides that lists the US version specs and says that it does have flash and auto focus, as well as the included 8gb micro sd. http://www.blackberrycool.com/2008/09/another-blackberry-storm-9530-leak-national-account-manager-slides/

    P.S. – B.G. you’re really slow with this but I guess it’s cause of the G1 launch.

    Lol, sometimes it’s too easy…

Make any mention of the sacred Storm going to another US carrier, and watch the fanboys lose their f*ckin minds….LMAO…

If this thing costs more than $299 I’m finally making the switch over to the dark side. Verizon phones blow long time. Sadly, service isn’t the only thing that will keep me with a provider. For fucks sake, I need a reasonable phone!

I guess I’m the only one that noticed that it says “hybird” instead of “hybrid”. Are we in Alabama?

    @Tony…

BGR must be from Alabama, cause he misspells ALOT!!!. BTW, I live in Alabama(had to leave the high rent high rises in NYC) and I kind of take offense to that comment. Everyone knows all the illiterate ppl come from Mississippi

Damn, glad I’m not the only one “delusional” enough to think that this handset will be dropping on a US GSM carrier sometime in ‘09.

Oh and Taylor.. I’d be happy to compare financial statements just as soon as you move out of mommys basement you sniveling sh*t. Its worms like you that take all the fun out of forums like this.

    Gag says:

Having a camera flash definitely one-ups the gsm version over the cdma/verizon version for me, especially due to the fact that it will probably ship WITH visual voicemail, unlike Verizon’s storm, which is pathetic on so many levels. It’s a signature feature that Verizon wants to charge you 1.99 for and it won’t even launch with the device? Having no wifi on both models is an atrocity though. With so many smartphones having it, either this was Vodafone forcing its will on RIM or RIM just being the same bunch of lazy f***s with allergies to implementing 3G. Apparently they only have ONE 3G/Wifi device in them and the Bold is all we’re getting for now.

Okay, so, at the risk of appearing entirely moronic, I am going to ask a question: will a T-Mobile SIM card work on an unlocked CDMA/GSM Storm? I know that I won’t have access to BlackBerry branded programs, but would I have the same Internet and email capabilities as I do when the SIM card is in my T-Mobile MDA phone? Thank you in advance to anyone with the time and patience to answer a newbie question! :-)
