Nokia E72 May Be Coming Sooner than we Think; As E63
Well lookie what we have here. The leak of a promotional video containing two upcoming Nokia Eseries handsets, at the time labeled E72 and E75, has spawned some digging around a few of the common sources of Nokia info. Say hello to three new XML files that represent the coming of the E63-1, E63-2 and E63-3. Because of the timing of all this it is certainly logical, though not certain by any means, that the E63 is in fact the final label that will be slapped on what we referred to as the E72 earlier. Ok then. So if the E72 does in fact turn out to be the E63, here’s what we know about this puppy so far:
- 320 x 240 pixel display
- S60 Feature Pack 1 (OS 9.2; not FP2 love for Eseries apparently)
- GPRS / EDGE / UMTS
- WiFi
- Three variants, presumably with varying flavors of 3G (same as the E71)
- Basically an E71 with a thick candy shell
Beyond that, it looks like the E72 / E63 will see a much-needed boost in terms of camera resolution, possibly even by way of some Carl Zeiss love. From the video it also looks like the size of the space key has been reduced by about 50% to allow the “/” and “@” keys on the left side of the board to be spread out (possibly with volume controls on each key). On the right side, it looks like the control and character keys have been separated as well. Honestly, we would have preferred to keep the wider space key – good luck typing out that email quickly when every other “space” ends up being a “/”.

It would be really weird for it to be named E63 when it looks more like an E71 variant. It would seem to be more fitting to name it an E71i.
I don’t understand this phone. Is it like, a cheap version of the E71, with a smaller screen?
Why was this phone needed?
What carrier will have this?
Better reception plzKthx.
Fugly! Does it come with the dropped call bonus that the E71 comes with?? Just returned my E71 to BB after dropping too many calls!
I believe it would be instructive here to show how this one differs from the E71, which was just released a couple of months ago.
Yeah, exactly; is the primary purpose of this model to “fix” the E71’s reported reception problems due to its antenna position? An upgraded camera wouldn’t hurt. Oh Nokia, if only you could actually get your North American act together… But really, I can’t blame them avoiding having to deal with AT&T “management” [sic].
I wonder if they read my petition.

Not a bad looking phone, but what was the point of it? Just seems like a ‘e71 junior’
…
Obviously, you are not tell the truth,as the E71 is an unlocked phone and is not carried by a U.S. carrier. And you definitely can’t purchase it from Best Buy!
The e72 looks a bit less like a toy in this clearer pic, though not quite as finessed in exterior design as the e71. As the gsm-arena.com article states, it is intended as a “successor” to the e71, however, I don’t universally buy that line. Nokia is targeting different geographic markets via these 2 different versions, imo.

Regarding the dropped calls whining from above, this is more an issue of the phone radio’s ability to play nice on AT&T/TMo, which is to state that gsm has more issue with dropped calls (3G handoff to 2.5G during a mobile call) than anything else. Only the Sprint/Verizon flamethrowing fanboys will generally even mention it as knowledgeable gsm users are aware of the cause->effect involved. All that is needed is an update to the radio file for improved operability. That is all.
As for Darryl’s statement about Best Buy, get a clue, would ya? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8939722&type=product&id=1215217075379
