It’s Official: Verizon Wireless says contracts are optional
Last week, we spilled a rumor onto the Internet regarding Verizon Wireless’ new deal for going contract free. Today, VZW has officially announced and confirmed our suspicions — contracts are not necessary for those who want to pay the unsubsidized price for phones or potential subscribers who want to use their existing CDMA devices. The leaked internal documents above provides more of the details. Way to go Verizon! The contract-free option will also be available to current users so long as they fulfill their current contracts. So, if you’re nearing the end of your contract or you think you’d like to remain loyal to Verizon for quite some time, this would definitely be the way to go. If you’re new and you’d like to check it out online, when you select your device there is a drop-down menu beside it where you can select Month-to-Month, 1 year, or 2 year contract options. After giving it a quick run ourselves, it looks like all you have to do is pick your plan, choose a device, and checkout. Like we mentioned before, the activation fee still applies for all plans. Full leaked docs are after the jump!

@RockTripod
You just answered your own question. At the end of the day it is PRE-paid, not POST-paid. That’s what we’re talking about here buddy.
My point is its still a plan with all features available except @Home and unlimited wi-fi calling. I think the difference of when you pay for your service is minimal at best, but I’m not trying to start a pissing contest with you. I like your site, I check it daily, and it often helps me with customers. I had to post something pointing out the option, because you said a no-contract plan is not offered by T-Mo. It is, you just pay before your billing month starts, not after. At any rate, we’re supposed to be offering a postpaid version as well. Its been delayed once already, who knows when it will actually debut.
Well every other carrier on post paid service charges a month in advance..hence when you receive your first bill it has usually 2 months of service and activation fees. Where as with tmobile regular post paid service you receive 1 months bill and activation fee 30-45 days after you activate. So flexpay is indeed paying in advance(pre paid) but gives you all the benefits of post paid rate plans and no overages or activation fees.
That’s my point exactly. All I’m saying is that it is still a plan. My god I can’t believe I’m still carrying on with this.
For anyone ALREADY a VZW customer, this is NOTHING new! You’ve ALWAYS been able to pay full price for a phone and have service without a ETF. If you paid the $549 (or whatever) up front for a Blackberry Curve, there was no ETF on your service.
What IS new about this is the ability to create a secondary market for CDMA devices. You can now buy a CDMA phone/aircard off eBay or CL or whatever and the buyer can actually get service without signing minimum 1 year contract. It ALSO lets the Walmart’s and Target’s and BestBuy’s of the world compete on device pricing, and set their device pricing independent of the VZW contract.
One thing I don’t get is why they require a credit check for month to month plan with no contract. Especially since you cancel it at any time.
Did you know there are ways to get post paid connections with verizon without a credit check ?
