Fox Mulder, you are wrong many new computers like Gateway,Acer, HP/Compaq are coming with 6GB of RAM 64bit Vista. You seem to be behind technology. If companies like Microsoft and Apple don’t release new O/S we will not move forward. They are doing a right thing, hardware is static, and software is dynamic. Software will always be ahead of hardware, hences updates etc.. Firmwares are slow, and only change minor changes as they have limitations. You can’t firmware update your CPU from 2.4ghz to 4.4ghz. So go ahead and go get yourself a nice 6GB PC and hang with the Jones’ you will love Vista. Move forward…

Geez- PC users are TOUCHY! None of the “mac users” here are even attacking Vista or microsoft, and you guys are up in arms anyway.

I use both- I’ve used PC’s for much longer than I’ve used Macs.

I would say that I’ve read reports of people using OS X leopard on Macs from several generations ago. Try that with Vista.

Fox Mulder I assume that you know me personally and can tell everyone my experience with vista, correct? Well since i have no idea who you are Vista runs perfectly fine on my computer. I have a 64bit version on a 1gig ram laptop and even that hasn’t been problematic. I love how mac lovers can’t get over the fact that the whole world uses windows and about onle 2% uses macs…it’s ok, you’ll get your turn soon.

And again, no one is asking someone to upgrade anything. If you don’t like vista then stick with xp. I haven’t had to upgrade to use Vista so I don’t know what you’re talking about there buddy.

What company puts 3gb of ram into each of their desktops? Why should entire companies change every desktop just to support vista?

yeah….you do have a point there…vista will fly if you at least have a dual core processor and 3GB of RAM(for desktops and laptops made by big box companies i.e:Hewlett Packard). My friend has vista ultimate, core 2 duo and 4GB of RAM and his desktop flies!!….it doesnt matter anyway because Microsoft will end its support of windows XP in 2009. I wanted a Mac then i realized that im not a fashion designer, architect or in advertising. My friend has a mac and says if you dont do any of that stuff…..you should just stick with PC. the only reason that Mac OS X is so stable anyway is because it uses a UNIX shell….Windows vista still relies on the windows kernel. This Windows is different because they redesigned the whole core of the Operating system because microsoft mad it open source so people can actually fix bugs that thier 70K/yr programmers cant find….so i am looking forward to Windows 7…and oh yeah….its gonna be called Windows Vienna. This operating system will be microsoft most stable one yet.

service pack 3 is just all those wonderful updates you decided not to have and it bogs down your hard drive….before even downloading it check your hard drive space is at least over 2GB

I don’t have any issues with vista. Ill most likely upgrade when this comes out but I wish they introduced a new color scheme UI

We’ve all used Vista & it sucks. Its a hog.
The XP interface is fast & user friendly. Vista has not been that. Granted with every new OS there will be some differences but it shouldn’t be slower & more hogish then the OS its taking the place of. The only way MS has been able to really sell Vista is to have PC makers sell backward Vista lic for new pc’s and have XP installed (to make lic numbers look good). That’s not hype that’s reality. The Vista revolution will NOT be televised! If Win7 keeps the UI then it will need to be flawless for users to move to it.

Just thought I’d put it out there:

Not sure if everyone knows, but Microsoft has a history of their beta OSes looking like the former until shortly before release. I think this is what, milestone 1? I remember what Windows Whistler looked like, and how it didn’t have any real change behind it. The final product should be judged, not leaked pictures from a beta tester.

But who knows, it may look the same in the end. I suppose we’ll find out.

What are some of these “downfalls that vista suffers from”? It runs wonderfully on my sisters pentium D with 1 GB of ram and on board video. She’s not very computer savy and she’s never had a problem with vista freezing or crashing on her. It’s just overall a much more enjoyable experience and i crigne whenever someone using Xp asks me for help. It can easily run on a $300 PC and if you can’t afford that you should consider linux.

vista > fedora > xp

Can everyone who hasn’t used Vista please sit down? Even though everything’s being updated to 64 bit and a minimum of 4gb, my custom desktop running 2gb has no problems whatsoever. Everyone crying about features they hope Windows 7 has already exist in Vista and Vista is very mature at this point. I’m sorry you overspent on a shiny piece of fruit, but that doesn’t give you the right to bash an OS you have never used.

W2K had such a clean look and feel, funtion without the need of eye-candy. I’m glad I can still make XP look clean and simple.

Vista is a great OS on powerful hardware, so what Microsoft is doing makes perfect sense- by the time Windows 7 comes out most people will have upgraded their hardware and so that won’t be nearly as much of an issue. Windows 7 doesn’t need to be anything more than a gradual improvement from Vista, as long as it’s not connected with the tainted name.

Actually, considering how tainted the name of Vista is, I would think that Microsoft would want to distance 7 from it perceptually as much as possible while keeping the backend, which would mean an overhauled GUI. This is still early, mind you, so I suppose Aero could still get thrown out at a later stage of the process.

Windows 7 is turning out to be for Vista what windows 98 was for Windows 95.

If Windows 7 doesn’t have anything but a new Calculator then I’m sticking with XP. Vista is a slow pig of an OS (You can put lipstick on it and call it Win7 but its still a Vista).
