iPhone 3G Soon to Get Storage Boost and Contract-free Option?
Just because it’s Sunday and you’re busy lugging around cases of Natty Ice and painting your face to pay homage to your team, doesn’t mean we get to stop hunting down rumors. So before you get all crazy with that farmer’s tan you’re still sporting, here are a couple morsels you might be interested in: First off, it looks like the in-store only iPhone 3G activation policy will soon be toast. Yes Apple looks like it may once again be coming to its senses and there is no way it’s going to miss out on the upcoming gift-giving season. That’s right folks, ignore the economy and buy everyone you know an iPhone 3G. Forget the fact that Apple is happy to inconvenience you when its interests are best-served by doing so and head to your local Apple store where employees are reporting an important change. Apparently a fifth option labeled “Home” has mysteriously appeared in EasyPay systems when employees sell iPhone 3Gs. What’s more, and take this with a grain of salt for the time being, we may soon be seeing a lineup refresh and price drop as 8GB models seem to have stopped shipping. Just like last year, shortages are being reported which might signal that Apple is getting ready to bump up to 16 GB / 32 GB at the current 8 GB / 16 GB price points. Aren’t you glad you waited in that line? Now if you’ll excuse us, we just ran out of blue face paint…

I have a 16GB iPhone 3G and honestly, its about 30% full at the most. I don’t need 32GB.
Ohhh… that’s why there’s no memory expansion slot!
I’ll believe it when I see it. Plain and simple…
I’ll let you guys be the first on a little secret. Don’t even put faith in my info, you will find out yourselves. The new macbooks are light and they will come in different colors. If it comes in black or white then that’s not what I’m talking about. I don’t have any proof to give.
from what i know…. the 8gb are short on stock but only because theyre the ones selling most….. documents have been distributed “from the inside” saying that this is only temporary
so dont take this “8gb is being phased out” rumor too seriously just yet
…..but thats not coming from the inside or anything….. *looks around unsuspiciously*
You may not need 32gb, but wouldn’t you like $100? Because that’s how much less the 16gb will cost now.
How about making an iPhone 3G that can do 2 way Video sharing like all the phones in Asia can do. Seriously we are lacking in tech when compared to other civilized countries. We will never CATCH UP technology wise if we keep getting spoon fed obsolete Tech in America.
We DO have that kind of technology, but if you only pay attention to big name companies, then you’ll never see the better stuff that we actually have. And BTW if you didn’t know yet, even the TV reception chip for phones in Japan and China actually come from the US.
You know, I have to say the only thing I envy on the iPhone is the memory. Sure I have the expandable memory slot, but I can’t be bothered to buy 4 damn 8gb cards and carry them around all the time, swapping them out when I want to watch a movie on one or listen to music on another. I actually use all my memory. Damn iPhone users, use your memory because not every has those extra GBs.
A memory expansion slot, instead of the already install 16GB how genius, let’s me just mention the great benefits of it,
1st, the run about a extra $80
2nd, the load slow as fuck
3rd, i don’t really think you want me to keep going
Did Galvatron change his name to keymaker?
I don’t see how expansion is bad, my 8GB in the Tilt works just fine. Besides the fact that Tilts are better than iPhones anyway.
I’m hoping that the “Comtract free part holds up and I can purchase a iPhone without having to through ATT!
@Who?: For only $100, I couldn’t care less. If Apple decides to give every early iPhone 3G adopter a $100 gift certificate then so be it, I’ll use it to get some accessories. If they don’t, oh well. Life goes on. That’s the early adopter tax. I wanted to be one of the first ones with an iPhone 3G and I paid for that privilege.
Do you know how many countries besides the U.S. has a Space Shuttle. None. A better tactical fighter than the F-22 Raptor. None. A better bomber than the B-2. None.
And you really believe that Apple couldn’t produce an iPhone with better hardware or far more features. You don’t seem to realize that in Asia those handset companies are subsidized by the government to produce to handsets at a lower price than what one company on it’s own can do. Apple is basically producing a one-model-fits-all-countries solution. Not everyone requires video conferencing on a handset. I might want it, but probably most iPhone users do not. In a year you might get your wish. The iPhone could probably kill off the Japanese companies on their own ground if they added a few bits of hardware in the iPhone and tailored it for Asian usage.
How much more would it cost to put in a 1Seg and FeliCa chip into the iPhone. Probably not a lot, but it would still cut into margins and it would have limited value for most global users at this point in time. Adding emoji wouldn’t be difficult, either. Desktop OSX can do it, so it’s likely Mobile OSX could support it also. Most of the manufacturers in Asia you are talking about have been building handsets for years and they don’t even offer those fully-featured models to the U.S. They’d die a worse death here than the iPhone will over there. Give Apple some time to compete and it will. It’s still just testing the waters. I can assure you that the iPhone 3G will outsell any high-end model that Sony-Ericsson, Samsung or LG will produce this year.
If you think it’s EASY for any manufacturer to walk in and steal major market share in a foreign market in just a few months, then you are being totally unrealistic. Nokia has been trying for years to do just that in Asia without success. So lighten up on this nothing can beat Asian handsets nonsense. Even companies over in Japan think that they can learn ideas from the iPhone that will help them develop their handsets in other areas.
Contract Free?
Please please please please please.
Give me a 4 GB iPhone 3G.
I don’t use that much space (I only have ~1.5 GB of music on my 500 GB Media Center, nothing else) and I don’t have that much money for an iPhone, nor do I want to bend over for 2 years to buy one.
And I’m not paying exorbitant prices for a 4GB iPhone on eBay.
This is not surprising, the same thing happened last year when they discontinued the 4GB and later on released the 16GB.
Thank God I held back and resisted the temptation. Now I’m ready to upgrade.
I’ll be so excited to get the IPhone without a contract. It’ll allow me to keep my Blackberry Curve
First off i wanna preface my comment with BGR is the shit and i love the site, however i will tell you from experince that activation the iphone 3g in over lst years method is ALOT ETTER for MOST everyone.
Why do i say this?
Ok well i work for att and yes activating your iphone at home sounds simple enough..and it is for 99% of the people that visit this site…however and unfortunately…alot of people that buy the iphone are complete and utter tool boxes and have no idea what they are doing..they either activate it on a separate plan or on a new line rather then on an existing family plan…or just straight cant figure it out and call the store or me all all day to have them walk through downloading itunes and stuff of this nature
So while initially i was happy that the iphone 1 was activated at home it ended up to be more work then it was worth
oh and i just realized i posted this in the wrong iphone home activation post
im a tard face
hey i want to buy one i phone in usa but after 1 mounth i’ll go in u.a.e then working in dubai so………..1 year i’ll go back in my countery in nepal in working in nepal also
