Microsoft Releases First Round of “I’m a PC” Commercials

Well there you have it. Microsoft did in fact ditch its Seinfeld / Gates campaign at least temporarily, in favor of a new run directly targeting Apple’s “I’m a Mac” ads. The new series of commercials features an eclectic bunch of people, all claiming to be PC users. The message in theory being that PCs don’t necessarily have to hide in pizza boxes to attract an interesting customer base. Instead, they are used by people in all walks of life and are “connected to over a billion others worldwide.” The slogan of this new campaign, “Life Without Walls,” is an effort to show viewers how versatile and capable PCs are – contrary to the notion conveyed in Apple’s ads. A few celebrity cameos within the first run of the “I’m a PC” series include William Gates himself, Mrs. and Mr. Eva Longoria and BGR pal Pharrell Williams. The commercials also features a number of Microsoft employees and offers an email address along with each one, including Mac commercial “PC guy” look-alike Sean Siler (sean@windows.com). While we think these new ads are fine and good, they’re still missing one of the key factors that makes Apple’s “I’m a Mac” commercials, and even it’s iPhone and other commercials so compelling. Features. Apple’s commercials use interesting scenarios and catchy themes to highlight actual capabilities of its products. In fact the key theme behind just about every “I’m a Mac” commercial is, “I can do this, this and this. PC can’t.” Here’s to hoping that this first “I’m a PC” run is just a little taste to get us used to the campaign and that eventually Microsoft might actually show us all of the great things about PCs as opposed to just telling us that “real people” use them. Hit the jump for two more runs of the commercial.

One: Microsoft doesn’t need to defend it self, when it has a 200 billion dollar wallet, and has 90% of the desktop market.

Two: how are the Mac PC ads inaccurate
I personal doesn’t recall seeing anything inaccurate.
    @ Joey Blaze
All desktop OS’s or either Unix, or Unix-like, besides Windows.

    @ bdBruno
I’m a 28 year old black male, married with a 3 month old son.
    I have diabetes.
I have an MCSE 2003, worked in IT for a large oil company in the earlier part of the decade; I now work in telco for a large telco company.
I have been using Windows since Windows 3.1 (or maybe 3.0, but out of the Windows 3.x’s I used 3.11 for work groups the longest)
A Mac was the first computer I used (in grade school).
I came to hate Mac’s in the mid, to late 90’s
Once OS X came out in the 2000’s I quit hating Mac’s.
Once Vista was release in 07, I felt I needed to pull away from Bills Gates control over my computer life. In which i found myself with two Windows Laptops, and two Windows desktops. Two of which belonged to me, the other 2 belonged to the company I work for.
I started by installing Linux on my desktop at the house which I loved, and I learned more about Unix which helped me at work. Then I got a used Powerbook G4, and loved.
Went from Tiger to Leopard on that machine.
I bought my wife a Macbook earlier this year, and myself a Macbook Pro a month ago.
So bdBruno I’m not a student, I’m not rich, and I’m not trying be cool.
I was broke each time I bought after a mac.
I’m trying to do is rid myself of Microsoft product as much as I can.
Why you ask, well if you knew your computer history, you would understand.
I believe people need to stand up to Microsoft and say we don’t need you Bill Gates.
    I don’t need a Zune, I don’t need a HP 26900 with Vista home premium, I don’t need an Xbox.
One of the only visible companies trying to stand up to Microsoft is Apple. Most other companies who have stud up, have been destroyed, or bought out.

    Hey Love for Tech,

I too used a Mac in elementary school! It too have been in IT for 15 years now.
But your story doesn’t mesh well….
If you are as poor as you say, why spend so much money on Macs? You know the software, hardware, and repairs are much more than you would spend vs. a Windows machine. Why are you trying to “rid yourself of Microsoft product as much as I can”? What have they done to you? Bill Gates has contributed great causes with his money. He has poured more money to benefit poor and impoverished people all over the world. HE, alone has given more than many nations combined. What does Steve Jobs give? NOTHING. All he does is purchase more 90’s black crew neck shirts (15 years behind the fashion scene, real cool!!!). He’s selfish and self-centered like most Apple fans.

I have 3 Macs and 2 Windows laptops at home, I run Knoppix, Ubuntu, Windows XP, Vista, OSX.

I don’t hate OSX, I think it’s great at the few things it can do. But MS does soooooo much more, there is no comparison. What I do hate are all the Apple fa**ots. Most of the biggest a**holes I have dealt with in my career surprisingly (or not) use Apple products. And they must have “everything” Apple. It’s really sickening. If I were to buy Sony everything, I would be a freak.

By the way, I never said the Apple fanboys are rich.

Do you recall that 1984 Apple commercial where they claim to “break-away” from big brother? Well, it’s pretty ironic. If you see the commercial (Youtube it), that’s precisely what Apple has become…the controlling monster they freed us from. Watch the commercial, although MS is 100 times bigger than Apple, Apple customers are just like all those marching zombies! You cant break away from Apple. You cant install your own hardware or move your OS to a completely new box you built on your own. MS doesn’t restrict its users as much as Apple does, but the fanboys keep taking it up the a**. It’s kind of sad.

I never said I was poor, I was just trying to show you, that I’m not rich.
I also don’t hate Bill Gates as a person, and I think it’s wonderful what he is doing with his riches.
But as you know Bill Gates is many, many times richer then Steve Jobs, hell even M. Dell is richer then Steve.
But I’m not going to buy some IBM with Windows preloaded on it because Bill gives money in support of children in Africa with aids.
I’m tried of being trapped into one OS, which as never been as good of an OS for the money Microsoft has.
And after using Linux, and doing my home work, I felt Mac was the good for my because it’s right in he middle of Windows, and Linux. Meaning, I can use a Unix desktop download open source applications (not saying you can’t do that on
Windows), and use applications like Adobe photo shop if I have to.
I had to save, and save even at times when my friends and family would be like “dude you can buy a brand new HP 24580.11 with Vista for like 900 dollars.” Even my old self would scratch it’s head to what I was doing.
What was I doing, I was standing up.
Yes you can run almost everything in Windows if you have the correct drivers, and know how.
Yeah you can build you on computer, and install Windows on it. I have built many computer in my short 28 years on this planet.
But as we both know it doesn’t run as well as it could, not saying Apple, Linux or other Unix-like BSD type OS as perfect, nothing man made is perfect, but from what I have seen they are far better then what Microsoft offers at a cost. Most of these OS’s are free, run by a community of people who work on this stuff on their free time.
I always loved building things, and taking things apart, but as I get older I just like a box, I can turn on, that I know is going to work, and if I have a problem I can call someone.
From what I have seen since own I MAC is three type of MAC users.
You have Rich people – who manly bought a mac(s) because god forbid they have a computer problem, and they don’t want to have the same kind of computer as a normal everyday person.
Then you have the die hard apple fanboy, who has been owning MAC’s since day one BABY!, anything Steve comes out with they own.
Lastly you have the Neo-Mac user, who has owned a PC for most of there life, wants to try something new, has done their homework. Sometimes they are switchers, sometimes they are not depending on their age.
I’m no switcher, because as much as I hate Windows, I have to use it mainly in cases for Visio, and other applications mainly small apps used for studying, or programing a cell phones.

Also I want add this link. Which is NOT something I read prior to owning my first mac.
Most of this stuff I already knew because I grow up using computers, and I knew my computer history to some degree.
But this guy sums it up so well, in his rant, of why he hates microsoft, which ironically is why I hate the company myself.

Hands down, the MS commercials are way better. I have used a Mac and honestly except you are into graphics and music production, i will choose windows anytime. I have a lot of friends that are music producers and most of them use a Mac for their music production but they use a PC for everything else from other parts of their work to leisure activity.
Lets face it apple is trying to get more market share, if they were that awesome they would not have to try that hard or focus on down talking another product, they would simply just highlight the pluses of their product.
No need to even get into the iphones and ipod, for whoever said zune is crap, please think again, compared to ipod, zune is a way better equipment. The iphone is something that is so overated, i put mine on ebay so did all my family members. HTC’s that use windows are way more better phones and achieve more.
