Man gets paid $20 to use Blackberry Storm, Verizon shooting Storm commercial
What would you do if you saw a filming crew from Verizon Wireless in the food court of your local mall? Well, if you were like one of our readers, you would mosey on over to get a closer look, get invited to play with the new Blackberry Storm, and then get paid $20 for your time while you watched them film a BlackBerry Storm commercial! That’s right, some cold cash in exchange for some thumb typing. With all the buzz this phone has generated, VZW could have used this opportunity to make some money, not pay out some money. How many of you would shell out $20 to get 10 minutes one-on-one with this new phone? Yeah, we thought so.
Thanks, Bob!

Sooo…did that actually happen? At no point in the article did you state that this happened for sure. Care to elaborate?

I was going to say the same thing…..A random guy wrote in and said he got to use the Storm and then watch the commercial being filmed… That sounds a bit out there to me….Is there anything to back this up?

according to a tip sent in by the storm-demoing dude himself, it apparently did happen.

Did he send in any proof? I don’t see how you could post this, without some proof?

can he provide us his impression, please!

no, I would not pay anyone to mess around with a new phone. I would only pay to have the thing for the week or something like that.

I’ll believe this when I see a cell phone video of Verizon shooting a commercial at a mall. With all the people carrying cell phones cameras I would expect at least one shot of this or numerous reports of the happening before its gets posted.
I know this is a rumor site but one guy named Bob with a claim in email is pushing it.
A saw a Yeti playing with a Blackberry Storm the other day. He growled in acceptance of the device. He was paid 3 Klondike bars to try it out. Lets post that too - its as verified as Bobs email.

he did send us more info than is written but I left it out so he cant be traced..dont want him to get in trouble.

I can imagine the mall thing happening, but I can’t imagine Bob writing in just to say it happened without giving the slightest bit of detail about the device itself. If Bob knew to write this site and reads it regularly, he KNOWS we want more than just that it happened. We want details about the Storm.
We DON’T care that you got $20, we don’t care that Verizon was shooting a commercial, and we don’t care that this happened in a mall. On the other hand, we DO care about what the phone feels like, how you liked typing on it, if the OS was responsive, if the browser was fast and looked good, etc.

Weirdest thing happened. I also saw that Yeti playing with the storm. How can you post that without letting us know if he liked the phone. You gave us all the meaningless info and left out the good stuff.

I saw a werewolf drinking a Piña Colada at Trader Vic’s ……His hair was perfect.

It’s time for this week’s edition of Sesame Street! The word today is rumor. Spell it out with us people! R-U-M-O-R!

Something similar happened to me the other day too. Bill Gates was walking by my house and he gave me a gold bar and a copy of Windows 7 to try out. Pretty cool guy.

This is Bob. I read BGR each day and was excited to actually be able to report something useful. It did in fact happen. Two cameras and a fairly large crew were roaming around the large food court where I work. We actually ate next to where the remote viewing group was setup.
Me and a couple of friends spent a few minutes with the “talent” guy in front of the cameras and then he let us fiddle with the Storm for a minute or so. They were hitting people as quickly as they could, I imagine to get footage for commercials and the like, as we did sign waivers and had a polaroid taken.
I mainly wanted to experience the touch screen and see how the tactile keyboard worked. I reacted positively for the sake of the cameras, but actually wasn’t too impressed. The main issue I see is that you have to press fairly hard to register a key press and I think it’ll wind up slowing down fast typers.
I can understand the skeptics, but I can assure you I didn’t dream the experience.

@Everybody
Just want to be clear that Bob is indeed the person who sent us the tip and not someone just commenting as him. There’s your info, folks.

but iphone still has no removable storage, no video, and can only send pic messages via email rather than text…some users dont want to may for internet; but do enjoy sending video or pic… plus syncing the iphone to a desktop sucks…No backup Assistant like verizon offers. No Voice GPS either.

I just want to know which Mall, in what city and state??? I would personally kill for the opportunity to pay them $20 to fondle the Storm…

Guys, its true. I was there with Bob and we actually touched the device and typed in the to: line, and even saw the screen flip when the phone was turned on its side. The typing was tactile and was hard with bigger thumbs. Seemed like it would be slower if you were a fast typer. overall was smaller than the iPhone.
