Telus says Bye-Bye to Analog, Hello Digital
Hey Canucks! What you see in all those pretty colors are areas where there was analog coverage (in green), and the new digital coverage area. Seems like the digital coverage is slightly better than analog, but there will be those green areas which won’t have digital coverage… worrisome for those emergency situations requiring a quick emergency dial. Folks with analog devices will get brand-spankin’ new digital ones free of charge – free is always sweet. The cost of keeping up the analog equipment wasn’t cost-effective, hence the shutdown, and hopefully all of you living in the small areas left in the dark will be accommodated soon.

A map of Saskatchewan has been displayed. Telus only operates on its own network in Regina and Saskatoon; for the rest of the province, Telus pays roaming fees to the incumbent carrier, Sasktel.
It doesn’t appear that Sasktel is shutting off their analog service, however, Telus is simply paying to roam digitally, instead of analogously.
Using a map of Saskatchewan is a poor representation of the reality for rural Telus Mobility customers.
Nice Map, but this is prime Sasktel Country, runs also on CDMA/EVDO.
As Lewis points out, other Analog signals will still be available. As long as the phone can still get a signal of some sort it will dial 911 in an emergency. This solves some of the concerns you mentioned about emergencies in rural areas.
