Palin Email Account Hackers’ Carelessness Could Lead to Capture

Oops. You would think that the group of hackers who recently dug into one of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s email accounts was smart enough to cover its trail. Unfortunately for them, it looks like you would be wrong. By now you must have read the hacker group known as Anonymous recently found its way into one of Palin’s email accounts and released a variety of screen shots, family photos and Palin’s entire contact list. As it turns out, Anonymous may have shot itself in the foot in the process. A quick glance at the screen shot above reveals that the hackers included a large portion of the proxy URL along the bottom. While this means nothing to most people, it will likely mean game over for Anonymous or at least one of the team members. The hackers used the proxy service Ctunnel.com to mask their IP from anyone who might try to explore Yahoo logs. By displaying most of the proxy URL in the screen shots it published however, Anonymous left themselves wide open to Ctunnel.com owner Gabriel Ramuglia who will likely be called upon to assist in the investigation (in fact he has probably already been contacted).

Usually, this sort of thing would be hard to track down because it’s Yahoo email, and a lot of people use my service for that. Since they were dumb enough to post a full screen shot that showed most of the [Ctunnel.com] URL, I should be able to find that in my log.

Unless Anonymous pulled this stunt off from a coffee shop, or from McDonald’s using a Zune, at least one of the team members could be in a world of hurt pretty soon.

I would have to concur here since I don’t see this woman even worthy of running Alaska let alone a country, which could happen with McPain’s health issues. They should’ve sent the e-mails to BraveNews or the Huffington Post and let them get the word out on these idiots.

Palin could/would be a horrible turn of events for this country. Close minded, almost fanatical, just plain scary to me.

It’s amazing how people assume that using an anonymous proxy will always keep their surfing anonymous. A proxy is a web server just like any other web server. As such, they typically keep logs. Unless the server is outside the borders of the US, it’s a simple process to legally obtain the log information.

    Who cares.

So you’re not too concerned about others’ privacy, correct? You wouldn’t happen to be a person who thinks your privacy is a big deal, correct?

Ai yi yi, the stupidity and utter disregard for privacy rights demonstrated in the comments here is, unfortunately, not at all surprising or unusual.

While many here may not like Michelle Malkin, she has a rather lengthy account of what transpired, the reason and the aftermath from the place /b/ that this all transpired. You should read it before accusing Obama of paying for it or accusing Palin of being a holy warrior or criminal.

Btw the account Malkin has was written by a /b/ user not Malkin.

Just about every one of Obama’s close contacts turn out to be low-life racists(Wright), criminals, and/or terrorists. There’s no media investigation because the media is in love with him.

Sarah Palin has her email account hacked and no incriminating information is found and The Associated (with Obama) Press’ main concern is pointing out there MAY be a concern that she used her personal account to send business related email (which EVERYONE does). Especially when idiots pass laws that try to turn an informal communication system into a formal, documented, archived tracking system. No one (including you Obama supporters) want every thought/question you ask a coworker tracked. There’s no freedom to ask silly questions.

Obama’s undermining of troop reduction negotiations (and his admission to doing so) between a sitting U.S. president and the Iraqi government is a much more serious charge than occasionally sending a business related email on your personal account.

Does anyone even know if the hacker actually broke any laws?? I doubt it’s illegal to simply fill out a password change form.

If anything he probably only broke the Yahoo! Terms of Service.
