BlackBerry Storm: we’ve been had

I’ll keep this short, but as most of you that are following the BlackBerry Storm developments over the past couple days know, Verizon has “introduced” the BlackBerry Storm internally. They even published a coming soon page complete with Storm image. The page was then removed today, coincidentally after every major site that mattered had linked to it and posted. Does anyone not see the scam being played out before our eyes? Introduction “internally” and then removing the coming soon page? No press release, no official announcement… am I the only one who’s seeing the bigger picture?
UPDATE: Here’s the link for the actual video hosted on Verizon’s site. Thanks, guys!
UPDATE 2: Storm page is back uppppppz.

Maybe they are ahead of schedule and plan on launching it in October (cough, cough…

I’ve not yet seen a single detail on the dimensions? How thick is the Storm? Hard to tell from the early shots? Is it going to be a brick? If Blackberry doesn’t nail this one, I’ll question if they will every get in the game - especially when it comes to UI. My Curve is so far behind the Treo and iPhone when it comes to UI is pathetic. How did RIM ever even get a foothold. If it wasn’t for some dumb government officials and IBM consultants picking this thing up… I have been without a good mobile phone internet connection for over a year cause I have to use this crapberry (only platform my employer supports - RIM has tricked my company also in to only using this product.). What happen to a free and open market? Give me my streaming internet audio back!!!

I just had to laugh when I read the title of the article BG cause I knew exactly what it was about and what you were getting at. However, I also knew why Verizon did it as it was so apparent with the talking points and the Minute with Mike video. They talked about the “buzz” and the blog secrets and talks on the device so they wanted to capitalize on it. I do think the main page will be back up shortly though and I still believe it will be released by mid-November the latest.
On another note, BG u can say the same about the Bold which is still in limbo and AT&T themselves have been talking about it since forever. However, this is the first time Verizon has even mentioned the device so you cannot fault them for delaying it or announcing it officially. But then again you are an AT&T and iPhone fanboy so I can’t fault you. This is your site and you can say whatever you want though, so screw the haters and keep doing you.
P.S. - I think you’re just peeved at the fact that Verizon used bloggers, including you, to do it’s dirty work and push the product even further and them scaled back on the marketing. LMAO…I would be kind of upset too, but funny nonetheless lol

I think I know where your going with this, but one comment made a point to say the phone was in developmemt for only 3 years. That is false, it was under development about 3 years or so. I agree it is weird that VZW would announce it, yet the product is not available or officially announced by BlackBerry. If you remember, the exact moment BlackBerry announced the Bold and KickStart it was posted to their website.

Maybe the storm sychs with a webpage, just like iPhone and MobileMe are linked. Maybe it also has a ‘poof’ button that makes all links disappear for security reason…stealth mode…yeah, that’s the ticket…

I think BGR just got their panties in a twist a little too fast. My guess is there was just a problem with the web page (the internet isn’t perfect). Not the phone. The page is def back up.

It’s just too bad that BGR couldn’t put their big boy panties on and post it themselves.

I don’t reeally see the problem. Apple showed off the iPhone a full 6 months before it was set to be released and that worked out well for them.
I think RIM and Verizon see this as the first offering that is a true competitor to the iPhone and want to build the same kind of hype surrounding it. Nothing wrong with that. Obviously I think they will fail miserably in their attempt to do so… but there is nothing wrong with trying.

Wow, BGR, wrong again. So are you still gonna cash that check from Steve Jobs? I mean they have to be paying you to bash RIM and VZW because a responsible member of the media couldn’t possibly be so biased without motivation. Right? Well, I have to check back in with CrackBerry.com. You know, the site with real info.

I happen to love apple, I own a mac pro and a mac air, I also love blackberry. This phone is gonna be awesome, despite all the hating going on towards it here. And the Iphone is a total POS! Drops calls like a mother, returned and just got an iPod. Why you hate Big Red so much BG? You mad cause they yanked you so hard and left you with blue balls? Apple did the same shit (kinda) with the Iphone like 5-6 months before its release you guys need to QQ and stop bashing BB and Big Red. Or I will have to say that you guys might be showing a lil bias here. *GASP*

“You’re an idiot for attacking BG personally with your scant “evidence.” Not for a second do I think he or his website is biased. But if I did, I’d change the channel. You should too.
@ BG
I don’t know how you do it. You’ve got to have a really thick skin to take so much criticism from these anonymous tards. I read this site, and others, daily - almost hourly. I’m addicted. But I rarely post because some of these posters are so, well, there’s no better word for it - STUPID. And cowardly. If they had to show their faces, identities, and have even the slightest modicum of personal responsibility for their stupidity and meanness, they’d crawl to the dark like the roaches they are. You’re a way better man than I.”

So true, it should be printed twice. I agree with everything Conrad said. The BG website is not biased. They’re the first to print BlackBerry news and I’d say that their opinions are pretty much always fair. I thought the “We’ve been had” post was a bit off, but for the most part TBG is one of the best sources of new device info on the web. If you don’t like it just stop coming here, or simply take your news and go. Remember, this is a BLOG. It’s BG’s BLOG. It’s not CNET or MSNBC tech news. The Storm’s touchscreen concept is controversial. TBG takes a stance on it and there are a great many who would agree. I don’t see anything strange or biased about that. The Bold was delayed and delayed, then it was delayed and delayed again. That was annoying and TBG wrote that. I don’t see anything strange or biased about that either.
Most of you do seem over the top with your comments, and I have to agree with Conrad’s comments above.
I, for one, am looking forward to the Storm. I’ll buy it if it isn’t a disaster but will reactivate my Curve if I’m unhappy with the push-touchscreen. I’m very happy to finally have an html browser in such high resolution, along with MMS messaging and copy/paste. I think there’s html emailing as well so I’ve got all my needs covered — as long as that touch screen isn’t bad. I can type faster on the iPhone than on my Curve and never get sore thumbs so I’m wondering about the Storm, but there’s only one way to find out for sure.

The Boy Genius must be rolling on the floor, laughing about this.
The more I read his posts, the more I think he just likes getting a rise out of the VZW fanboys. You dipsticks just keep taking the bait.
It’s a fucking wireless provider people. Who gives a shit?

What is regrettable for me is that between Engadget and BGR’s sniping at each other—I now have no idea who to really believe over this and the Bold. I seems that BGR is a Bold booster and a Storm Hater—vice versa for Engadget. When they start gunning for each other they both loose credibility.

BGR is comparable to FOX News; scewed information. You guys are blind if you don’t see it because they make it clear as day. I’m not a blackberry fan (even though I’m really interested in this phone), but any news about the Storm has been 90% negative. Now go ask all the other insiders on HoFo like 0mie and Crucial_Xtreme and they’ll tell you this phone is definitely an iPhone competitor. I understand BGR may have their own opinion, but after reading this article, it goes to show you that they are biased against this device either because it’s on verizon or because it’s blackberry.
After reading this article, I can say I’ll never come back here for information. HoFo and in this case Crackberry are more consistently up to date when it comes to information about phones. Oh and they’re not biased when information is released. I think many people will agree with me when it comes to this issue with BGR. Besides all the fanboys for this joke of a website.

yes you, bloggers, are being manipulated, toyed with, etc. It some sort of pay-back for leaking all of their secrets. (stealing their THUNDER) pun intended.
