BlackBerry Storm: we’ve been had

I’ll keep this short, but as most of you that are following the BlackBerry Storm developments over the past couple days know, Verizon has “introduced” the BlackBerry Storm internally. They even published a coming soon page complete with Storm image. The page was then removed today, coincidentally after every major site that mattered had linked to it and posted. Does anyone not see the scam being played out before our eyes? Introduction “internally” and then removing the coming soon page? No press release, no official announcement… am I the only one who’s seeing the bigger picture?

UPDATE: Here’s the link for the actual video hosted on Verizon’s site. Thanks, guys!

UPDATE 2: Storm page is back uppppppz.

I kinda suspected the same thing with AT&T and the Fuze, they “accidentally” put a product page up about it on their website, but no release in sight…

Hahaha I love how CarBob inserts his BLACKBERRY FO LYFE sig into all of his posts… Do you travel much, CarBob? No? Didn’t think so, that CDMA Verizon piece of shit won’t work outside the US without insane roaming charges. What’s that, my phone can swap SIM cards and be good to go on any pay as you go plan, anywhere in the world? Me 1, you 0.

Back to topic boys and girls, I’m not a huge fan of Blackberry myself, they always seem so bland… The Bold is an exception to that, looks like a damn good phone. As for the Storm, I like the idea of having a touch screen Blackberry, but with that click screen? Everyone I’ve heard talk about it who used it says it feels like shit and it’s annoying as hell, so I’m not too interested.

Man talk about hype…BG writes up a paragraph of partial information and leaves us hanging, and then slams Verizon for marketing hype? Did you actually watch the “Minute with Mike” video? Mike say’s right in the video (paraphrasing here) that they, Verizon, are aware of the hype and are playing off of the blogosphere. There was no release date or price point given. I’m sure as we roll closer to the RIM Developers Conference being held next month that we will have plenty of information released to us, willingly or otherwise!

    @BG,

Ok, so you criticize Verizon’s Storm by saying it won’t be until November, now you say,

“I’ll keep this short, but as most of you that are following the BlackBerry Storm developments over the past couple days know, Verizon has “introduced” the BlackBerry Storm internally. So let me get this one straight. We are being scammed, because the web page was taken down? Umm, isn’t it more probable that there were technical difficulties? The Minute with Mike video has been made public by Verizon, and Verizon said that the available info can be officially shared by Verizon employees now with customers. Also, because there’s no official RIM announcement, we’ve been “had”? LMAO, give me a break. Your posts against Verizon become more and more of a stretch, and just ridiculous. Where’s the Bold Scam for ATT? Why don’t you report about how long there’s been a “coming soon” page for them, and an RIM announcement from them, yet no phone? Oops, I forgot, this is Boy Genius, we’ll just stick to doing our very best on trying to find negative thing to make up…err point out about Verizon…that’s what we do.

Thank you BGR for not responding to these idiots!!!

I mean think about it. How many Apple users were waiting on a device like the iPhone and iPhone 3G rather than using every other smart phone platform. I mean if you want a true multimedia device in a handset who has one? Not WinMo! Face it, they make good PDA’s but don’t quit make the multimedia cut. Poor syncing with PC’s, tired old UI, a lack of new features, and buggy as the day is long. Palm is another tired UI, feature lacking OS. That leaves Symbian S60 which has a lack of Carrier support and subsizing.

At&t has a world changing device in the iPhone and its’ feature set. T-Mo will have revolutionary device in the Android also. Big Red has been shelling out alot of dough buying up all these networks, subscribers, and spectrum as of late. Can they really afford to take a chance on constantly losing customers to other carriers? I mean think of the people that will probably leave that were subscribers to the carriers that they brought out of anger during the acquisitions. Who wants to feel they won the game and then look around only to find that they have no one to celebrate with. Especially, when they realize how open the only two US GSM carriers networks are with the two new game changing devices being on those networks.

Dig deep At&t has released the iPhone 3G still waiting to release the Fuze and the Bold just to name a few big releases. T-Mo is releasing the much awaited HTC-Google collaboration the
Dream. SE still has yet to release the X1. Any guess as to what US carriers will get first dibs on it. And you have a bunch of unlocked devices being released soon by Nokia and HTC, for instance. Not to mention the new Treo Pro released that can only be used on GSM carriers with Verizon yet to pick up an upgrade to the 700WX. GSM is where all eyes are going to be for the next 6 months or so. You have most non-American carriers even running to GSM. CDMA is slowly becoming like a windows PC. Out of date in a few weeks.

Ahhh maybe you are all insane but has anyone forgot about the fact that At&T has been playing around with the Bold and still has the rights to the iPhone. Why would any business compete against itself by promoting 2 phones with similar clients? Most likely AT&T has a clause with the sale of the Blackberry bold that has a time limit and RIMM would be in breach of contract if they made a major announcement with a competitor this close to the Xmas season. So when Bold goes live in October and then RIMM and VZW announce Storm no one can be taken to court. It’s all about $ my techno geeks.

PS- BGR you have promoted this device on your site for months, so who has taken the bait, us or you? Who’s lawyer got in touch with you? Please don’t loose your blog, I would be devastated. What would we do without you but choose from the 1,000 sites that do what you do (minus the contradictions)

BGR - you guys couldn’t wait to post the “Ninja” video claiming the Storm sucked. But you still haven’t bothered to post the VZW video. Ah BGR - must be tough to be wrong again. Here’s a piece of advice: If you can’t say anything decent about RIM/Blackberry, then how about not saying anything at all?

Spraggab: You’re a moron. Let’s assume BGR is an Appple fanboy. You keep on reading, though, so who’s the sucker?

Apple doesn’t market by placing pages on carrier websites. . .instead they don’t discuss unannounced products (most of the time at least), and then allow the media to do their work for them once they are announced. This keeps cost down and interest up. Now, if this whole thing was a marketing ploy by RIM, seriously, who cares? This phone was no secret, but apparently RIM decided that since the only people that knew (or cared) about this device were tech geeks, it wanted to reach people that didn’t read BGR and others. It didn’t work, but let’s crawl before we walk.

What is with all of you, it’s just a phone, relax. I’m stuck in upgrade limbo, but there’s nothing I can do about it. I assume BG is attributing Bold like delays to the Storm. The Bold site went live what, back in May? June? Still not available. So that puts the Storm into Q1 2009. But his own inside story says that Bold delays are partly because RIM cares more about the Storm. Mike at RIM sure was sucking up to Verizon in that video. So BG, maybe you need to rethink this. In my mind, there’s no way they pass up Christmas shopping with this. Mid November. Bold on October 21.

HTC Dream? No business user will touch it. It’s not a threat to Blackberry or WinMo in the business space. At this point we have the Bold, Storm and HTC Touch Pro/Fuze. One will be my next phone.

Two things that no one else has said so I will say them.

    1. This is being done internally to address a continuous morale issue. How would you like to be a corporate sales manager who tells everyone you have the best network, but NEVER get the cool device first, if ever.
    2. If they put a date on it and miss it, which they always do, then the people who suffer are the corporate folks at Verizon who have to do damage control. Why risk missing a date when you don’t have to (ATT and the Bold???)

FYI, it’s not a hoax, it’s an iPhone killer for the corporate market.

    @ CarBob

I’m with Bryan. You *are* an idiot. And no, I’m not an apple fanboy. Although I can’t wait until the next gen macbook pro comes out so I can get one.

I’m on my fifth blackberry, you idiot. And when the Bold comes out I’m getting one of those - they day it comes out (the manager of my local ATT has me on speed dial). And when the 8220 Pearl/flip comes out, I’m gonna shell out for one of those (company is with TMobile but won’t get one for me since my old Pearl is fine). I love RIM, I love BlackBerries.

You’re an idiot for attacking BG personally with your scant “evidence.” Not for a second do I think he or his website is biased. But if I did, I’d change the channel. You should too.

    @ BG

I don’t know how you do it. You’ve got to have a really thick skin to take so much criticism from these anonymous tards. I read this site, and others, daily - almost hourly. I’m addicted. But I rarely post because some of these posters are so, well, there’s no better word for it - STUPID. And cowardly. If they had to show their faces, identities, and have even the slightest modicum of personal responsibility for their stupidity and meanness, they’d crawl to the dark like the roaches they are. You’re a way better man than I.

Really Eric? When I got my Fuze, Engadget was jealous it was a phone they had never seen and could not get, so they called my claims “sketchy” and “dodgy”. Despite pictures, it wasn’t good enough, and they never had any follow up on the phone other than that I “claimed” I had it in the beginning. Don’t act like all other reports are perfect and BGR is Satan’s spawn.
