BlackBerry Storm: we’ve been had

I’ll keep this short, but as most of you that are following the BlackBerry Storm developments over the past couple days know, Verizon has “introduced” the BlackBerry Storm internally. They even published a coming soon page complete with Storm image. The page was then removed today, coincidentally after every major site that mattered had linked to it and posted. Does anyone not see the scam being played out before our eyes? Introduction “internally” and then removing the coming soon page? No press release, no official announcement… am I the only one who’s seeing the bigger picture?
UPDATE: Here’s the link for the actual video hosted on Verizon’s site. Thanks, guys!
UPDATE 2: Storm page is back uppppppz.

I’m pretty sure they’re going the Apple route of announcing it and then letting the anticipation just build and build and build. They want lines out the door. They want the fanfare and the news coverage. I’ve never seen an internal email that actually told us to talk about unreleased stuff, but they want this to be HUGE.

BG, you’re loosing me here buddy. your hatred of VZW and RIM is really starting to shine through.
It’s pretty clear that you dont really have any good info on the Storm. nobody really does. it’s been kept under tight wrappings so that info doesnt get out ahead of time.
could vzw screw up and pull the page back again? yeah. could they also have been inundated with people hitting that site so much that it was affecting other parts of the server? yeah.
there’s plenty of reasons for what has happened. you just cant seem to leave well enough alone when it comes to VZW and RIM. i cant wait for you to be proven wrong AGAIN.
PEACE

I’ve waited for ages for this phone to come out so I gave up and purchased an iPhone this weekend and I LOVE it!!!!!! Bye bye blackberry!!

I just dont see people waiting in long lines to buy a phone from verizon. Even though it’s a blackberry. Apple just have a way of marketing their products in a way that builds hype amoung loyalist.
I mean.. I dislikes the IPhone I love everything blackberry, but I would not stand in line to buy this phone or any phone for that matter.. but thats just me..

If you want people to talk about stuff, you make it like a secret and people will talk about it to feel self-important and still meet your objectives to generate buzz. Wouldn’t you like to be in on a secret? Of course you do, that’s why you read sites like this instead of just waiting for an official announcement.
You want the juice, you want the hype, and Verizon is going to do what they can to generate a buzz going. They want what Apple had. And best of all, buzz on blogosphere is free marketing, but you have to give out a bait and we took it.

could be worse, could be the AT&T Bold page. The phone that’s coming sooooooooooooon. 4 months soon

But I don’t get it…because they’re using viral marketing tactics that means the product is coming out in 4-5 months instead of 2?

still doesnt answer why BG is saying it will launch second week into November and also saying we bought into the marketing hype..
Which is it

There’s so much damn hype for every device that is set to be “officially announced”. This is damn frustrating!!!

i just wanted to say how amazing you are, and I mean it. Where do you get your information? Anyway, I work for At&t, and i have been notified that I have won the blackberry bold employee contest. I will be getting bold in a matter of 2-3 weeks. It seems like your october 2nd release date is almost 99% accurate. I have a faith in you.

More reputable sites that take their jobs seriously (i.e., Engadget, Gizmodo) report in non-biased ways and provide news before moving on.
BBR, on the other hand, creates a post directed solely at projecting your paranoid fears about falling prey to “marketing hype.” You’re a whiny little bitch. Have you never been subject to marketing hype from any other company? What degree of market hype suddenly warrants an entire post bitching about your paranoid theories?
I mean, even if you were right, is this what this site is for? Whiny babies? Maybe you should send a letter to the Consumerist once you’ve gathered all your facts.

Hey BGR, just out of curiosity- what phone are you rockn’ and on what network?

It comes out when it comes out. If you like it, buy it. If you don’t, that’s nice.
Why do people get all flustered over speculative BS? You’re all unwitting sheep to both the corporate marketers and the self righteous bloggers who just rehash and recycle the same “leaked” photos and post it on their own sites and claim first.

why not take away the bold hype, a solution the iphone 2.1 problem, and the android/tmo hype this week. why wouldnt the largest carrier want the most fanfare where theyve been getting shorted of late

So, why don’t they just officially announce the Storm? Come right out and be like “Here it is boys and girls, now please don’t jump ship and go somewhere else. Take the Blue Pill…. Trust your friend big red”
I’m waiting for the Bold and the “Fuze” to hit.

Hey mangenius,
Maybe there’s no reply because its like 2 in the frickin morning Eastern? Why don’t you ask 4 more times and wonder why no response. Or you could find something else to spend your time on and wait till morning.

@Bryan,
Thank-you so much for your kind words.
Could you possibly be one of those elitist “Apple fanboys” that we hear so much about?

BG: Verizon using “internal” videos to get peoples attention on blogs? Heaven forbid. That’s almost as bad as you using headlines that aren’t true to catch peoples attention. Kind of like the ones you’ve used for all the Storm posts. Let Kelly handle the Storm blogs….she doesn’t seem as biased as you.

Umm..wasn’t this painfully obvious during the first few lines of the “talking point” sheet…
“Rumors, whispers, secrets; bloggers love to speculate and we have them all buzzing about us”
G’duh, you obviously don’t need to to be a Boy Genius to figure that out!!

Correct me if i’m wrong, but this post does not reference the iPhone once.
@CarBob & toasty
How does this post convey a hatred toward RIM? Unless it was modified from original posting, it seems he is merely implying something seems fishy with VZW and their handling of an as yet unannounced handset.
Save the BGR hates RIM mantra, it’s getting old.
