EA says to Take Two, “We dont want you”

All you gamers hoping for some weird Madden NFL-Grand Theft Auto mashup — we hate to burst your bubble — it’s not gonna happen. After 6 months of wrangling that started just prior to the release of GTA IV (we think EA wanted a piece of that action), EA announced on Sunday that it has terminated discussions with Take Two. This decision came on the heels of an agreement between the two companies in August in which EA dropped its hostile takeover bid while Take Two revealed its 3 year product plan in private.  We can only assume by EA’s reaction (running away as fast it can) that Take Two’s upcoming games must be really, really abysmal. Or they had all their money invested in Lehman Brothers…

I also doubt the advanced product line deterred them. It was simply buying information. If EA would drop its hostile attempt they’d gain insight into a competitor’s strategy. It was some horse-trading.

Does BG need a less on business strategy?

I second that Galvatron…EA wanted to buy them for way less than their value and Take 2, as well as EA knew it. That is why they kept on offering them the same package even when Take 2 rejected it like 3 times before. Good for Take 2…keep your GTA.

P.S. (side rant) Forget EA for messing up football games for me forever with their stupid NFL licensing and the destruction of NFL 2K…that was the best football game ever now we’re stuck with the same Madden being released every year with no difference between them whatsoever. NFL 2K5 is still the highest rated football game of all time, even over Madden ‘09 and if you don’t believe me check all the gaming sites like gamespot and IGN. That’s why they were scared, and for good reason too, look at NBA 2K and NBA Live…does anyone play Live anymore? lol…Sorry but I just had to do it…that company irks me at times.

I am a loyal Battlefield and call of duty player. (both EA games with EA servers backing the multi-player) The less EA has control over, the better your games will play. Its unfortunate that the industry cant stay as smaller shops creating more unique games.

If you wanted this deal to go through expect GTA09, GTA10, GTA11, GTA12….. to all be slight changes to the current game at 60 bucks a pop. I bought EA’s NCAA football 07 for $19.99 some poor schlep paid 60 bucks for it less that six months before. EA is all about money and cares little for the gamers.
