A Storm is coming on Sept 15th, presumably BlackBerry

An internal email floating around Verizon Wireless hints at some “exciting news” coming on Sept 15th. According to Kevin Byrne, Verizon will tentatively launch “http://www.verizonwireless.com/storm” on September 15th, followed by the actual product launch on 11-1-08. Some more eye candy (Photoshop > Filters > Render clouds was the best they could do?) and a confirmation of the phone (finally) will be sweet, but don’t go standing in line to be the first to buy the Storm on November 1st. BG tells me you all will have to wait around one more week for that…

I just want to see a thorough video showing it. Seeing the bugs in the Bold OS makes me think a touch OS from RIM might be unuseable for awhile.

I’m gonna go ahead and agree with hibachi,
it’s cool and all but this thing is going to be a freakin’ disaster…especially in the touchscreen department.

Well disaster? I guess we will all see soon enough. I can’t say that the touch screen is terrible based on one bad video by a moron that couldn’t remember the phones name. Then removed the video - I think he got he pudding handed to him!

WHy do idiots come here saying something is going to be a disaster before they’ve used it, or before the phone has been finished, or before there’s before there’s been any official specs released?

Interesting you say that since the Bold isn’t even released in the US yet and most of the carriers outside the US haven’t been having issues like with the *cough* iPhone. The biggest issue I’ve heard about the Bold is the Browser Javascript lag.

RIM’s track record has been pretty outstanding. If the Storm is anything like the others it should be rock solid.

Agreed, that guy was a douchebag rolled up in a turd sandwich. “Uhh, I don’t like it….I just don’t like it..” Funny thing is, everyone feels the same about him. I mean really, a “ninja” wearing a sweater vest? That just had I live in my Mom’s basement written all over it…

    Love the info Kelly/BG. Thanks!

BigV, I agree the track record was awesome but there are several issues going on with the Bold from memory leak still, Bluetooth issues as well as 3G drops. I think its a good product but as was the case with apple - they rushed the 3G parts and are fixing it on the fly.
Add in the touchscreen elements into the OS and I would wait to see how it does after release.

That’s fair, the touchscreen does add a new element of uncertainty and we won’t know until it’s released.

As for the Bold, I think the GSM 3G is what has been proving more difficult for everyone, as is seen by Apple and RIM.

The CDMA EVDO has been working pretty smoothly for several years, I think when it comes to the important stuff like call quality and network/data stability, I would be surprised if the Storm messed up that aspect.

How well the touch screen works well that’s still something we will have to wait and see. I don’t think the Storm will have the same issues as the Bold.

“Disaster” is dead on; from now on I will refer to it as the “Blackberry Katrina” or the “Blackberry Andrew” (the latter being a storm that hit when I was in high school). The bottom line here is that every other RIM product has been built around a physical keyboard, making this sudden shift into the touch arena seem more like a “me too” device. Then that video. . .I’m still shaking. With all that said, I wish RIM luck with the Katrina. . .they will need it.

    @Perspective,

Sounds like you must have used the final version of this phone yourself. How long have you been a tester? Surely, you must be one to call an unreleased phone, with no specs released a disaster. Lol, and your logic is, “RIM has always made devices with physical keyboards, so if they make a touch screen, it has to suck”.

    LMAO

What does this mean for all those bidders on Ebay who are willing to shell out tons of dough to buy unlocked Storms? Think there will be a bunch of dropped bids? Most thought it wouldn’t be out this year.

Oh like the Iphone 3G hasn’t been a disaster since it’s launch! At least give it a chance to alaunch and we will see how it is and if it has as many bugs as the Iphone has had!

Man Apple Fan boys are out in droves. Whats the matter, cant take the fact that the Iphone is laden with bugs and is a horrible phone?

RIM DOES NOT release phones with issues like APPLE does. RIM actually LETS the carriers TEST their phones on their networks so they do not get BAD press and web sites dedicated to telling people how BAD their devices like the Iphone.
The Bold and Storm have not even hit the US carriers so you can’t rip them.. Even if the Storm sucks and thats a BIG if, I bet it will make a phone call 100% of the time unlike the Iturd.

Your bias is blinding. You have absolutely ZERO firsthand knowledge about the Thunder/Storm. Yet you feel inclined to spout of your uninformed opinion like it’s fact. I didn’t see you designate any of the other touchscreens that have popped up on BG as a “me too” device. Which simply proves how much of a joke you truly are sir.
