The HTC Opal is Real; We Dub it FrankenTouch

Somebody definitely spilled something over at the HTC labs. No, the image above is not a 1989 Ford Mustang rolling around the Jersey shore. It is in fact the first live shot of the upcoming HTC Opal - the phone we all hoped was killed on the drawing board. Carrying specs that are basically identical to the HTC Touch, the Opal is basically the exact opposite of the other leaked HTC handset making the rounds right now, the HTC Touch HD. The only real differences we can come up with are the rubber band wrapped around the perimeter, the new d-pad and the 80s-tastic finish. Seriously, what’s up with the metallic sparkle going on up there? We can only hope that it’s just a result of some seriously weird camera flash feedback or something. At any rate, expect to be passing on this one as you continue to drool over the Touch HD.

Is that a rubber band or a chromed finish piece? Due to the flash it kind of looks like the table it’s on.

With the arrival of the Touch Diamond for Sprint, this phone isn’t even relevant anymore.

Hm, if they’re intending this towards a lower-end of the market, it might work out- say, in the same price range that RIMM is targeting with the Pearl Flip or less.

Don’t fool yourself, the scene kids are *jonesing* for an 80’s-tastic handset like this. Last year was Apple, which is now considered played thanks to the tacky hype machine. Year before was sidekick, which is still around thanks to its popularity amongst the douchebag crowd.

i agree with jimmy, the DB crowd demands sparkly phones. Why else did we have a gold razr or a limited ed. sidekicks.

stupid people with money can’t handle a touch diamond.

    Nice info in there Diego!

I think that is not TouchFlo 3D, only a modified version(faster)of TouchFlo, maybe 2.5 :D

I didn´t turn on the device, only next week…

And it´s a “cromed band”, i´ve uploaded another image without yellow reflex…

Here’s a thought. Not everyone likes the same things. That my opinionated friends is why there are so many different phones to choose from in the first place. The cell phone company’s have to appeal to EVERYONE. Not just you and what you like. You don’t have to buy it. However, I’m sure someone will. Get over it!
