More HTC Touch HD Info; So Close…
…and yet so far. So yesterday we told you about the HTC Touch HD and we don’t have to stress how smooth this thing looks. It’s a gem, no question. As far as the specs go, here’s what we knew yesterday:
- 480 x 800 pixel WVGA touchscreen display
- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
- TouchFLO 3D UI band-aid
- 3G
- Qualcomm 7201A processor @ 528MHz
- 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM (+32MB on processor)
And here is what we know today:
- 115mm x 62.8mm x 12mm
- Should be on shelves in time for the holidays (!)
- Integrated GPS
- 5 Megapixel camera (!), no flash (not !)
- No D-pad or scroll wheel, does have a stylus
- microSD slot
- 1350 mAh battery
- 3.5mm headset jack on the top!
Barring a few hiccups, things just keep getting better with regards to the Touch HD. Mind you, if it maintains the “HD” in its name we can perhaps expect some special multimedia features, maybe even some that will be unique to the Touch HD. Nothing is perfect though, and we’re still not entirely happy with HTC. Considering how open Android is, why couldn’t HTC slap some TouchFLO 3D love on Google’s OS and make the Touch HD as pretty on the inside as it is on the outside? We’re not saying that Windows Mobile is ugly, mind you. We’re just saying that Android, umm, isn’t.

If my 3g iPhone doesnt have copy/paste by the time this thing is available in the US I think I’ll have to buy it. That screen is beautiful.
too bad it’s WinMo.
It’s still Windows Mobile. Seems like I recall a recent saying about putting lipstick on a pig…
No Wifi???!
512mb of memory? C’mon. This is 2008, not 1998. No flash? This phone as some serious potential, but why do companies feel the need to do amazing things with one part but completely blow on the next? I have an N95-4. Great phone but slow USB? It took 4 hours to load 7gb worth of music on there. Before I get chewed out, I do realize this was just leaked so things could change and I really hope so. If this is to be an “HD” cell phone, it better have the capacity to hold the content. That’s like bringing a knife to a gun show. But that’s just me, I could be wrong…
Me Likey!
Can someone confirm if there is no Wifi on this? If so its a deal breaker.
Also any chance this could be the rumored second Android device? I know a WM version is coming out but could Android version be possible? I would rather have a carrier certified version of android on this thing then a community hacked one.
Why can’t any of these phones have it all… it seems like to purposely leave out one or more key components (wifi, camera with flash, copy/paste… just to name a few)
Plus… it still has windows mobile
This is almost my dream machine right here. I still like WinMo (would have liked to see 7 instead of 6.1), and have no use for wifi.
The only way this could be even more is to have a slide out keyboard. I could put up with a few extra millimeters for a QWERTY.
then wait for the ATT Fuze.
The reason they don’t build a perfect phone is because they want to force you to upgrade every time they have a new phone out. If they built the perfect phone, people would buy it and then not upgrade for years.
Just curious about the “holiday” timeline.
Seems like we have been hearing about the Diamond and Raphael FOREVER.
Is it really plausible to get a release a mere 3 months after the first “spy photos” are released?
What Carrier?

You in luck then:

Hmm last time I checked, HD meant High Definition which is very often confused with HDD or in other words Hard Disk Drive. This does not need one, it would destroy the battery, and although I know flash has gotten larger and larger these days, I would honestly prefer to have all of my storage on a memory card. 8GB MicroSD will be 40 dollars in a year, then 16GB will take its place, then 32. That’s the best way to go honestly.
It will probably have WiFi. It’s not very likely that HTC would release a device that doesn’t have it. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a single device (outside of some weird s620 variant) they have released that doesn’t have it.
I have been reluctant on replacing my Kaiser for the TouchPro but this I can jump on. If only they could come out with an on-screen keyboard that is usable on it. The one on the Raphael and Diamond isn’t nearly as good as PCM Keyboard (which is currently free).
Also, this thing will *PROBABLY* be upgradeable to WinMo 7 (legitimately) and also through the fine folks at XDA (illegitimately).

Your onscreen keyboard sir,

8gb microsdhc cards are less than $25 on Amazon. Very cheap. Unfortunately no 16gb cards yet.
Also, the sites that have the new specs say it has Wireless LAN a/k/a wifi.
Yes, it supports WiFi. And who cares about internal memory. It supports up to 32 GB MicroSDHD.
I am glad that it runs on WM 6.1 which is solid and well proven. Naturally I expect it can be upgraded (re-flashed) to WM7 which in due course.
I’ve said this time and time again but…
Screw everything else (besides the X1) this is my next phone.
3.5mm audio jack… finally
I just can’t help but notice the similarity between this handset and the “reference” one included with the Android Emulator.
EEEEEWWW!!
Windows Mobile is disgusting!!!
hopefully that can be changed!
I really like HTC Touch HD and WM. I used to love Palm OS but all the phones are heavy, bulky and non-innovation. So I switch to WM 6.1 and I could not be happier. I know WM is not perfect but I love how WM has a lot of free apps and pay apps. Also, a lot of companies are supporting WM OS like Yahoo Go (you can get Myspace app on this Yahoo Go), Opera Mini, Opera Mobile 9.5, Netfront web browser, Iris web browser, Facebook app, Java app (Jbed), Skyfire web browser, Live search, BeeJiveIM, AIM, Kinoma, etc…I could not get most of those apps on Palm OS, so I gave up and move on to WM 6.1. I dont like WM 6.0 but I like 6.1 cause its more stable, HTML email, threaded messaging, easier to use, copy/paste, etc…
WM OS is better on multitasking, I can have a lot of apps run at the same time which is better than iPhone and Palm OS in IMO
SPRINT HTC TOUCH DOESN’T HAVE WIFI, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN???
