BlackBerry Storm appears on video, sucks*

*According to the “ninja” who “reviewed” it. Like we reported, the whole screen is a button, and the method of navigating the phone involves using the physical buttons, and then touching and clicking the screen to select something. Basically a hot mess. Man, that on-screen keyboard looks like death ran over twice. Skip to around 2:55 for the BlackBerry Thunder / Storm action. Comments please…. ?

Thanks, R.!

I think it looks half-way decent. No way to make a judgment on the whether the keyboard press is a plus or minus until you have it in hand. Also, the dude is a jackass for saying if you press to hard you may break the screen. Maybe for an idiot like himself that may happen, but I think the most users should be able to refrain from breaking the screen. For an early prototype, I am still intrigued. If a lot a people are turned off by this, it will be that much easier to get on launch day.

First off, this guy is a tool. He sounds like he’s about to cry through the whole video.

Second, the BB looks pretty damn cool. The keyboard looks much better than any of the other soft keyboards lately, Diamond iPhuck, etc. This won’t make me change to Verizon but I don’t think people should dismiss it immediately.

We dont even know how early of a protype this is. It could be the first/second and its way past that now? Of course this wouldnt matter to this site, bash RIM over anything, hug and kiss an Apple all day.

Perfect example is how Apple had a huge mess on the first day release with its 3G, Mobile ME, 2.0 software…was that mentioned at all that day on here, of course not!

For all of you super-slooths saying this was an old video, check out the date on the phone. It says September 8th. Granted, it could still be an old UI, and probably is. When he hit the address book key, the icons went from 3D to 2D very quickly and became very dull and ordinary looking. If this was the latest version, I’m sure that will be fixed before it is released. Honestly, if that is the biggest thing everyone is worried about, the keyboard graphics, I say we have a pretty good phone on our hands. This guy obviously has never used a BB. You may have to scroll to get the other icons, but how about pushing one of only 4 actual buttons on the phone called the “menu” key. Just like on all current BB, that will bring up all available icons. When he showed off the qwerty keypad, he was on Yahoo’s website, but you couldn’t really tell much more than that. I think everyone needs to calm down and wait until they can play with one in thier hand. As a curve owner, Im interested to see if I can bang out SMS and emails as fast if I have to push in the screen for every letter. It looked hard to push. Only when I can get a device in hand will anyone really be able to give this a proper review. I thank the annoying “ninja” for posting the video, and therefore losing his job and probably getting ex-communicated from the industry.

    @Tommy

Dude seriously, these guys are right 99.995% of the time when it comes to cellphones. When an aficionado of any service gives you advice on what they do for a living you listen. Then if they are consistantly right, you listen harder. Just like a “Storm” this thing is sloppy and put together in to much of a hurry… and all the pundits who think the screens gonna be okay, you’re wrong. If it’s even close to the “Dare” this thing won’t move off the shelves. No self respecting Blackberry owner, who loves their QWERTY keyboards, will keep one of these in their pockets/holsters.

So Tommy, go waste your money on this piece of crap when it comes out… then come back here and cry your self to sleep. The Boy Genius is just gonna laugh at you and tell you to take your ball and go home.

p.s. These guys are HUGE BlackBerry fanatics, but that doesn’t let them get in the way of criticizing crap from one of their favorite companies.

I hope you can adjust options for the keyboard. I would really hate to have to press the device harder then I do now on my dare to type. I can type so fast on my dare because of the hapnotics or whatnot and the super sensitive keyboard. I can lightly tap the screen and it recognizes the command immediately. I cannot imagine having to press hard to get the key to work. It will greatly slow down my typing. Which is dangerous when driving…. you need to be able to type quick and get your hands back on the road!!!!

    questions?

    1) Does the storm have a camera?
    2) Wifi?
    3) Why didn’t this stupid ninja show the phone’s side and back view?
    4) Why not show the internet in wifi, if available?
    5) Why not show the scrolling feature he is complaining about…

the ONLY way to find out if this phone truly sucks is to wait for it to officially be released and review only that phone. Until then all opinions are subjective to rumors and hearsay…

LMAO @ the Sweater Vest Ninja….

Seriously though, @ everyone talking about how BGz is SOOO biased toward at&t, and HATES RIM, why don’t you try ACTUALLY READING THE POSTS once in a while. Pretty sure it was just yesterday that a article was posted that told how JD Power ranked at&t LAST of all wireless companies. Also bashing the sh*t out of at&t for all the delays on the Bold. Now, why would they do that if they loved at&t so much??? Hmmmm….

Yeah, that guy should seriously drop “brewninja” and just go with sweater vest ninja… hilarious.

They still have like 2-3 months before they release it. I hope that they will fix this issue. Blackberry thunder is a great idea, but Rim needs to work on touch-keyboard. People complain that iphone 3G keyboard is too small. Thunder keyboard looks even smaller to me. Delay or start all over again rim, but this needs to be fixed.

hasn’t anyone noticed that the BLackberry Storm’s design looks A LOT like the Samsung’s I730 without the antenna? and looks to be a little wider? http://farm1.static.flickr.com/47/132708222_4cdf21ad2d.jpg

So the only grief i have is with the call quality, the rounded bottom makes it hard for the receiving caller to hear you. Ive have the i730 for a few years now, and am looking to gget the storm just showing the similarities in the design.

lg dare owner makes perfect sense. Thanks for leaking the video BrewNinja but you’re an idiot because honestly none of the blogs I’ve read in regards to your video mention any of the other phones but the Thunder/Storm because that is all we want to see. You could’ve made two seperate videos and given us an in-depth view of the BB so we’d have had a better knowledge of what what’s to come. You showed the entire build of the Coke/Fuze and didn’t even turn the Storm around, makes no sense.

And BoyGenius is really a hater. I’ve never owned a blackberry nor am I an Iphone fan but if this device is good I’ll get it. I’d never get the Iphone though because honestly it sucks…it just looks cool doing shit with it but when you pass the surface there’s nothing there. No video recording, not even copy and paste. And the video could’ve been made exactly when you had stated that the whole screen is a button and could’ve been rehased since then so don’t sit here and act like that’s not possible like that’s not what happens with gadgets all the time…like that’s not one of the reasons why you reported it’s delay because it was still being tested. I know you love AT&T and the Iphone with their terrible service but hop of their nuts for one second and give credit when due.

That didn’t look so hot. But there’s no way of telling what UI incarnation that was — I have a hard time believing RIM would release that as-is, and an even harder time imagining that it would get past VZW testing that way. Not that anyone should be expecting it to be as user-friendly as an iPhone interface, but geez…
