Verizon is paying Sprint and AT&T subscribers money to port over!
Check out these docs we just got our hands on! They are for authorized Verizon Wireless dealers at the moment, and not applicable to corporate stores, but we heard they might be soon. Verizon is offering a “switcher credit” to Sprint and AT&T subscribers who port their number over. Awesome idea, and one I’ve said to many people before. You’ve got to use those ninja tactics now to steal those subs! The weird part is that Verizon will give you a $50 credit for a Sprint line, but will only waive the $35 activation fee if you’re coming from AT&T. This promotion runs until October 31st, and we’ve got both documents for you in larger sizes after the jump.
Thanks, Harris!

Great fucking idea.
I don’t know why noone has done this before (unless in someway it is illegal).
You would think the corporate guru’s sitting up in their offices making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year would have come up with this idea…oh…i dunno…..10 years ago?
Why not though, if you REALLY want to drive the nail into Sprint’s coffin, just offer to give them a credit in the amount of their Sprint ETF fee up to $200.
BUH-BYE SPRINT!

Dude…that’s exactly what I said! Had a three page post written out but didn’t publish because of the seemingly large number of Sprint lovers here.
Pay the full ETF, make the person signup for a certain voice and data plan, and it’s over for Sprint.

I pay 150/month now with sprint for all inclusive service on 4 bb. It would cost me about 80/month more to go to verizon. Makes little sense to switch unless their pricing structure falls in line.

The reason they are offering more to Sprint/Nextel is for a couple of reasons. One being the termination fees for getting out of the contract. The second is because of the new Push To Talk network, they are trying to get as many Sprint/Nextel PTT customers to port over as possible and they have to give some initial incentive to do that. You do have to look at the small print of that promotion though, if you read the whole thing it states you must be on a calling plan $34.99 or higher to be eligile for the credit. So if you bring over your family plan from Sprint you only get $50, but if you bring over a business calling plan (all Verizon business plans start at a minimum of $34.99) You will get $50 per line.
Big Red has been doing these promotions for months as you can see, there are plenty of others as well that are not mentioned here simply b/c they don’t pertain exactely to switching carriers. I own one of the Verizon agents so it’s always a good back pocket seller to throw those out there.
I have always believed they should waive Act fees for customers porting numbers from another carrier, as well as giving alil something extra for breaking a contract.

Pay the full ETF for new customers who port? Where would all that cash come from? On the other hand, if one carrier started doing it all of the others would have to follow suit.
A carrier could then fund the ETF rebates they pay using the money they get from another carrier paying the ETF for a customer porting away from them! Very circular. ETF’s and subsidised handsets would not survive this system.

I can get an activation fee waived just by Bullshitting with the CSR. Heck, if the CSR won’t do it, you hang up and call in again until you get one that will.
It’s all about negotiation. Now the credit for an ETF is harder.
I just don’t really like Verizon because they have to force their will on their phones and they don’t use SIM cards. I can’t just take my SIM card and put it into another phone to avoid paying the upgrade fee. That and they are REALLY, REALLY slow in getting new smart phones.

Where does that cash come from? The same place where massive “handset” discounts come from. They will make it back in the long run.
And yeah, all of them would follow suit. However, Sprint wouldn’t be able to afford that on-slaught and would be left with no other option to FINALLY either file bankruptcy and fold up shop or sell out to another company.
Bottom line is, this is a free market. Businesses are pricks. Verizon should bury Sprint while they have chance.
Hell, at this point, drop the AT&T offer, and just head it straight for Sprint.
However, with these documents getting out and public, I am sure Dan and his team of legal eagles are probably already trying to file some type of legal injunction against Verizon to keep them from doing this. Probably some bullshit about a Monopoly.
Note to Verizon: Unlock your GPS features. Lower your prices just a teeny bit and offer NFL Mobile Live and Sprint goes by the wayside.
Then, just to add insult to injury…Move your regional headquarters to Kansas City, buy up all of Sprints property, re-hire all of their employees (Well, all except the high-ups that are causing the company to fail right now).
HOLLA BACK!

No New York, go figure. I’d switch in a heartbeat.

AT&T has been doing something very similar for transferring service for awhile. They were giving Visa giftcard instead of Bill Credits or waived activation fees. As far ETF it is illegal for any carrier to directly pay those which is probably why they don’t even attempt to try to market a plan to do so.

Verizon to me, is the Devil - there is a reason they are colored RED!
Im happy with Sprint. Activation fee waived, 1st month fee credited, and a $320 mail in rebate… Yeah, Im good on Sprint.
I do praise Verizon for using “credit” tactics as a way to gain customers -must be desperate to gain some since Alltel’s will leave in droves.

Why would I port over to Verizon, only to get a feature-stripped phone, poor data service, and pay twice as much?
$30 SERO plan: SMELL IT, Verizon!

Be happy to! How do I get my iPhone working on Verizon again?

I guess you fools love paying thru the ass hight data plane and voice plans. All AT&T and Verizon does is screw all of you thru the ass. They cripple your phones and make you all pay the high ass bills….What suckers….SPRINT will never go under…So many hate mongers…And no I dont work for Sprint I am just a fuckin happy customer.

I get offers from various political MVNO’s almost weekly, each offering to pay my termination fees if I’ll sign up for their service. So paying off of ETF’s is nothing new…if anything, THIS offer is taking a far cheaper (to Verizon) approach.
Really, ANYONE pays activation fees any more? Unbelievable.
I too would like to see Verizon release the stranglehold on GPS. Their “privacy and security of our customers” argument is TOTALLY bunkus, they can’t REALLY believe that anyone with even the slightest of intelligence buys into that?!?! It’s well publicized you can buy a BT GPS puck and it works with Verizon phones that have their internal GPS blocked so hey Verizon there goes your “privacy and security” argument out the window.
Oh, and @theoutsider:
You can ALREADY run Sprint’s NFL app on any Verizon Blackberry already!!!

I am aware of that.
And for those who will read this post and wonder where they can get it at, let’s make it simple for them:
http://softwarestore.sprint.com/wap/downloads/nfl09032008/app-prod-nfl-8330.jad
However, maybe I should have said “NASCAR Mobile” since we all know the hillbillys who actually use that service on their Sprint phones don’t know how to use this here internet thingie.
Hence the reason why Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma aren’t included.

Some of you are sooooo stupid. Oooohh $50, what about your cancelation fee, not to mention the cost of the new phone?
As for you Sprint haters, you have issues. Sprint has so many large contracts with the government, they aren’t going anywhere.
They have the best data network out there period.
The $99 everything plan kicks everyone else’s ass.
You want to know why verizon doesn’t unlock their GPS, because they can’t handle the data traffic.
verizon is scared, their PTT sucks, nuff said.

What about t-mobile customers who want to switch to vzw? T-mobile sucks compared to Verizon.

I wonder why they aren’t offering switcher credit for T-Mobile customers??

I would gladly switch if Verizon just let me get the same pricing I get with Sprint after many years of negotiation - I’d have to start from scratch with Verizon. Let me switch and keep the same specs and pricing of my plan and I’ll switch today! My contract has expired

theousider you’re funny as hell…and they are not offering if for Temporary MOBILE customers because it is just that, temporary…no one is concerned about them. No good phones really, no good service, no 3G…it’s like they don’t count. And the Android Dream doesn’t count, neither does them starting to roll out their 3G service in some states years after everyone else is moving on to 4G. And I’ll make a prediction now, Sprint won’t be around for much longer. Why do you think they have the simply everything plan for $99 now. Before their prices were close to Verizon’s but they’re losing so many costumers so fast that they have to offer incentives. Is it me or does Verizon seem to be the only smart company in the cell phone business. AT&T and Iphone fanboys can say whatever they wan but at the end of the day their phones don’t work and need a firmware update every 2 weeks just so it can break down again. You’d think biggest company, ie AT&T, would’ve come up with this, but no, again it’s Verizon all over again.
