AT&T BlackBerry Bold press release: confirms October launch, announcement soon
We just got our hands on an internal draft of the press release AT&T is going to run with to announce availability of the BlackBerry Bold. There’s an October XX release date (wtf?) and the usual corporate spin saying how this phone, not all the other phones that came before it is the best and most exciting. Add in a quote from RIM, and you’ve got yourself a press release! It’s dated for release today, but for some reason, we don’t see that happening. They’ll most likely wait until Jim’s keynote to announce this along with the other goodies at CTIA. Catch it in all its glory after the break, fellas!
Thanks, JP!

Scoreboard! can’t wait…
October xx? Typical AT&T…
Well, if the number of “XXXX” is correct (4) and not just randomly typed, means it’ll be coming out on a Tuesday, which I guess takes October 2nd off the shelf. My guess, Tuesday, October 21 if what’s on the sheet is an accurate letter-count representation.
What happened to syncing with itunes? Was that just an impossible dream?
I love how at&t spins everything to make themselves look better. First global 3G phone from a US carrier (Verizon’s/Sprint’s EVDO is 3G, but not GSM 3G), fastest 3G network in America (operating at full capacity and, more importantly, when you can get a signal, which is rare with at&t) and “hands down the best international coverage of any carrier” (I particularly love this wording because of the recent JD Power rankings which raped at&t on national call quality). Best international, yes, because CDMA doesn’t work overseas.
Good game, at&t. Why don’t you improve your network (and your company, for that matter) instead of lying about it?
octoberfast….because it’s 3G or because we won’t get it until the end of october?
AT&T Global Navigator? Does that mean BB Maps is disabled?
If it is, that sucks. I guess geo-tagging only if you buy the additional services (not that I know what geo-tagging means).
Why would they bother abbreviating “Kbps” and “Mpbs” if they planned on putting the entire word in parentheses?
Wow starting at $299.99 which is way better than Rogers starting it off at $499.99. I wonder if we’ll see a price drop North at the Border when AT&T rolls their Bolds out.
It will be October 21. $299 is still $100 more than an iPhone right? And $100 more than the Storm/Thunder per BG’s info. It’s also $250 more than the $49 ATT is charging for the Blackjack II. Seems steep to me.
Oops—just reread the fine print. It WILL sync with itunes. You think they would make a bigger deal out of that—isn’t this the first non-apple product to sync with itunes? (outside of some righteous hacking that is)
Re Nicholas:
The most recent version of desktop manager as well as the most recent version of pocketmac(free) have itunes sync and the mac version has iphoto sync as well. You can’t sync songs bought from itunes itself as only ipods get to.
Re George:
Geo-tagging means that when you take a picture, it puts the coords of the location in the data of the picture. ATT navigator is just something like telenav, a subscriptions service for turn by turn. Att, Orange, Verizon, etc. almost always takes off bbmaps wanting you to pay for their service, but you can just put it back on.
Every body calm down calm down at&t ment to say october of 2009! At&tbunch of lame ass’s!
WOO HOO! I’ll put BB maps back on thank you very much.
If it’s on there, it should be left on there. But, I do understand. They are trying to make more money.
I want to go to att headquarters and bash the SHIT out of whomever keeps making the decision to delay this constantly ive been waiting for almost 6 months
Syncs with iTunes! Awesome. Of course, no DRM’ed music (though there is a workaround), and no legal video. That’s right. . .if you want video on that gorgeous screen, you have to break the law. And no, RIM will NOT fund your defense. What a deal!
Oktoberfest in Munich ends on Sunday, October 5.
The Bold being the first device to sync with iTunes WOULD have been true had AT&T actually launched the Bold back in the day. But now, you can just go to http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/features/media/mediasync.jsp and download the software. It will work on anything with OS 4.2 or higher
Visit blackberry.com/mediasync to integrate with iTunes. No more conversion necessary.
that is possible already with any BlackBerry
Since I’m ready to throw my 3G iPhone out of the window, this may be a good time to jump back in to the world of Blackberry…
JUst saw that the blackberrybusiness.com website is selling Bold’s at $1029, down from 1500 over a week ago. Not a steal yet, but can any current Bold users tell me if it’s worth the premium?
And is anyone interested in buying a practically new iPhone?
Well that stinks. Went with ATT end of Aug in the hopes of a trade in for the bold. At 300, its not worth immediate purchase. Better off waiting or getting the HTC Touch Pro. Then again, the target is business users so the higher-than-iphone price makes sense.
Can any one prove or deny this website offer for a Blackberry Bold is legit?
I’m personally not familiar with purchasing unlocked phones.
For most part it sounds reasonable in regards to price.
No payment via paypal or with a credit card for consumer protection concerns me. Then again I’m not familiar with how europeans do business. Sincere and honest input would be greatly appreciated.

It’s official. CEO of RIM announced today (9/11) that the Bold will be released in October on the AT&T network. Didn’t specify a date. The delay in the release was due to network certification issues. Hmmmm.
