New iPhone Plans Starting October 1 on Rogers

There are some rumors floating around today that our friends north of the boarder might be somewhat excited about. Forget the fact that you’re tied into a new contract for three years when you snag a new iPhone 3G, now it looks like you won’t have to watch your data usage quite closely than you thought when you snag an iPhone 3G and choose one of the cheaper plans. Here’s what we’re looking at:

$60/month

  • 250 daytime minutes (up from 150) + unlimited nights / weekends
  • 1GB data (up from 400MB)
  • 75 texts
  • Visual Voicemail
  • three months of unlimited local calling
  • a permanent MY5 Local option

$75/month

  • 400 daytime minutes (up from 300) + unlimited nights / weekends
  • 2GB data (up from 750MB)
  • 100 texts
  • Visual Voicemail
  • three months of unlimited local calling
  • a permanent MY5 Local option

So while the 6 GB for $30 option will likely be disappearing at the end of the month, it looks like our Canadian brothers will have some slightly more fair options to chose from. Additional data over your plan’s cap, by the way, will still probably cost you 50¢ per MB for the first 60 MB, 3¢ per MB thereafter.

These plans are still an insult to my intelligence. As soon as that 6GB for 30$ is out, we’re back to square 1 : PURE RAPE.

    Thanks for nothing Robbers.

Actually looks pretty good to me. To use 6GB on iphone takes some dedication in my estimation.

I’m never moving to Canada. In the US i have a family plan with 5 lines with 2 iPhone 3G’s and 1 blackberry. Shared 3,000 minutes, unlimited data, unlimited text and unlimited N&W only comes to $283.45 every month.

    You Canadians are getting raped.

It is odd to have a positive spin on the story. Taking away the 6GB option and replacing it with a choice of 1GB or 2GB – according to my calculations, this is worse. The 400mb limit you speak of is a straw man. Why don’t you add that chocolate rations have been increased well. Rogers is not a benevolent company; I used to have a great unlimited data plan with Fido until Rogers bought the company and took it away from me. Not cool.

Remember, these prices don’t include provincial and federal sales taxes, nor that sleazy “system access fee” rogers charges.

When factored in, the real price to the consumer is in fact $76.33 / $93.43

I dont understand why the amount of text messages are so low! especially on a phone like this where it is so incredibly easy to create texts, it doesn’t make sense. (it *does* since its rogers, but you know)

I have the 6GB plan, and over the first two months here I have only used 250MB and 500MB! and I surf every day on my commute and often when I am relaxing at home. I also have been using the google maps app a fair bit.

Also some times listen to last.fm and watch youtube.

I am still trying to figure out how I can use that data up without tethering a full PC to the phone.

Rogers is a monopoly here in Canada, they control Fido and rules the GSM network. It is a “Take it or leave it” situation. Other carriers like Telus or Bell gives you unlimited internet access for only $15/month, I could have switched if they weren’t running CDMA phones. I can’t wait until Telus goes GSM and when T-Mobile invades Canada in 2009. Finally some competition against Robbers.

T-Mobile will never come to canada. stop those rumours.

The Crtc only allows companies outside Canada 45% ownership to any cell networks. Rogers began with an americain partner when they first started.

T-mobile must be dedictaed to their own lines/servers and must be 100% OWN BY THEIR AMERICAN ip. sADDLY THEY WILL NEVER EXHIST IN cANADA.
