BlackBerry Bold / AT&T update!

While our predicted national launch date of October 2nd still looks to be holding true, we’ve had a flurry of tips from many different people regarding the BlackBerry Bold release on AT&T. What we’ve heard, is that stores will be allowed to start ordering the BlackBerry Bold on September 24th. That gives them plenty of time to get units in stock and ready to go. No telling if stores will be allowed to sell the units the moment they come in, or if they will have to hold them until the 2nd. Then again, when do AT&T stores actually follow launch instructions?
Thanks to all our ninjas and tipsters!

meh, wait till release to see if they have the bugs worked out. There are too many problems with the devices out now. its excitement has passed, its time to begin the Storm / Thunder hype now. That looks like a winner if they can surprise people with a touch OS that is not buggy.

My question is why did AT&T get first dibs on the bold? Once it’s release to At&T, why can’t RIM release it to T-Mobile too? What do they have to wait for?

I hope this is true. My product manager laughed when I mentioned the Oct 2nd launch date. His exact works were “no way not a chance” Doesn’t matter much though, I bought one on eBay and it works great. I don’t know what the holdup could be.

Some people may want the bold more for internet access than the bb email. With the wifi, you get the internet access without the pricey data plan. So the question remains, will AT&T REQUIRE a data plan with the bold?

At my att store im friends with an associate he said the 15th is the key date

AT&T does not REQUIRE a data plan for any phone, the reps in the store will tell you that because they make hella commissions off features.
However, you do must have a data plan OR at minimum unlimited text to get the rebate back. These are features though, and can be taken of the account when you get your rebate back, and it doesn’t make any changes to the contract.

I can’t wait!! Does anyone know what the price point is going to be?

Yes, but when is the launch party?

If Att has 90 thats BS. Wasn’t this released in South America like 90 days ago. then in Canada. I fell like they blew their exclusivity period. If RIM sticks to giving them an additional 90 days. i would loose respect for RIM and their attorneys for not writing a better contract because thats outrageous. I could be wrong but at this rate Verizon’s touch screen BB may come out first or at nearly the say time. ATT is trying to bury this to get the most of of that Iphone contract and RIM should not allow ATT to force it to be second fiddle to Apple they can do business in other places.

I jailbroke my iPhone 3G, the 2.0.2 firmware is a JOKE. Dropped calls en masse, handsoffs between 3G and 2G are horrible. And even if you download too much at one time, it crashes.
They’re good for one thing: MAKING MONEY. Because they’re enough IDIOTS out there who think this is a good device. It ISN’T.
I played around with a Blackberry Bold in a T-Mobile store in Germany. This thing is gorgeous. Windows Mobile beats the HELL out of the Mac OS X on the iPhone as well.
AT&T, RIM, and Palm w/ Windows Mobile. THUMBS WAYYYYY UP!

God bless the spin meister known as BG. AT&T has made no announcement of availability, so putting up a date is kinda pointless (other than over-hanging the market). Not much is new on this phone (other than a camera inside an 8820). While the 480×320 screen is nice, without a balls to the wall browser, it’s kinda usless(doesn’t seem to be anywhere close to Safari or NetFront3.5).
I’ll wait for Javelin (for some reason I like the keyboard of the 8310 much better than the 8820)

What exactly are you guys so excited about???!! i’m assuming that most of you already have the curve…. why get the new one?? it’s basically the same device. if you r looking to bring some excitement to your life, getting a “new case” (bold) for the curve is not going to be the answer!!! hahaha
Get yourself an iphone, and bring peace to your heart!

WOW a lot of angry folks. I guess the constant disappointment has more than a few people steamed. Be glad you aren’t part of RIM’s marketing team. Leaving the largest market behind, wow. I sure am glad I dumped my RIM stock before all this because what was going up is coming down. I assume some corporate heads will roll after this quarters numbers, because analysts were expecting big things with the release of the Bold and other new products.
