BlackBerry Storm goes into TA (technical acceptance) at Verizon, delayed 3-4 weeks

Here’s our latest info on the BlackBerry Storm and the fate of the device on Verizon’s network: it just went into technical acceptance at Verizon which usually takes around 3-4 weeks, and the device has been delayed internally by around 3-4 weeks while they work out the kinks (read: buggy and unresponsive) and polish it up. That puts us around a mid-November launch on Verizon. We’ve double confirmed that information, so it should be pretty accurate. Additionally, we heard from someone else that they’ve increased the marketing budget for the BlackBerry Storm just to give AT&T a little kick in the nuts for delaying the Bold so much. That’s not confirmed, still probably a little true, plus we got a chuckle out of that anyway.

UGH! bro they need to make this phone for T-Mobile! I want it. but i might just have to settle with the Curve (sunset). RIM should come out with a different version for other/smaller phone companies.

If there is one company that can compete with Apple, its Blackberry. I’ve wanted an iPhone, but refuse to go back to ATT. I’m not just saying that because I had one bad experience and through a tantrum, and left ATT- the service was garbage- I would have to wait 5-10 minutes every time I called their customer service support line. The billing was always questionable, the online billing was worse. When I went to Verizon I got great coverage, and amazing customer service. I have never had to wait more than a few seconds when calling customer service, and they are always very nice, and very helpful. The online billing and payment systems are a snap, and easy to understand. So, needless to say, I will most likely be sticking to Verizon and picking up the Storm asap. Just in time for my contract renewal.

I hope VZW and Blackberry do a better JOB1 with the storm than they did with the 8830 I went through 4 units in the first 4 months. Phone and voice dialing locking up, etc. untrained staff at the stores. Hours on the help lines. I will wait 90 days from retail launch not to be an unpaid guinea pig. All that said. I hope its a winner! On the side lines- out

I just purchased an 8830 from verizon yesterday on early upgrade and just received an “exclusive invitation for select customers” advertising the storm in the mail. This is the first I’ve heard of this phone.

People, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my iPhone. I am true Mac convert. But in my area the AT&T network really really sucks. I have very spotty service unless I am right in town. I am going back to a Verizon Blackberry and I was waiting for this one. But it is being stripped of all its awesome features. Hope you all realize that VZW is just going to lock down the features of the “Thunder” and brand it the “Storm”. Our friends north of the border on Rogers Wireless are going to get the Thunder complete with Wi-Fi, Blackberry Maps (no lockdown to the providers own GPS service), among other goodies. I want to know when the major cell phone manufacturers are going to put on their big boy pants and tell the Cell Phone providers where to stick it when they lock down these AWESOME PHONES! We as customers need to write the cell phone companies, the manufacturers, and our legislatures and get something done about this!

I received an “invitation” for the BlackBerry Storm from VZW. The only time frame given is Fall 2008. Go to their VZW site and …./storm to sign up for email updates.

The only problem with the HTC touch is that it is running window mobile. I have had many phone running this and they would have to be reset every day because they would get slower and slower has time goes on. I used to love the treo’s until the 700p. what a piece of crap. Treo’s use to be the best. I like to know what happen?

The Storm has been the the Technical Acceptance phase for sometime now..Verizon has increased thier training and Marketing/Promotions both internally and externally…Face to Face training is now a requirement for this device, which is usually reserved for more than just a product launch.. And yes Verizon reps know more than they let on..We just are not at liberty to share info..Did you know it will sport 1gb of internal memory and ship with a 8gb mem card?…

Im a big fan of Verizon, but lets be real. Verizon can come up with mobile phones or PDA’s that can compete with the iphone, but nothing will pass the iphones capabilities. If the blackberry storm has a good balance of mobile phone, PDA, moltimedia with micromedia flash so you can view true full HTML and video based web pages, I would give it a good chance at competing with the iphone as far as the web browsing is concerned. It would be nice if the storm could down load and open PDF files and come with some great programs installed to. You just may have a winner in my view.

Hi - if you are reading this, you are most likely a VZW customer.
Please request of Verizon Wireless, as I just did, that they unlock the GPS/AGPS capabilities of their upcoming BlackBerry Storm so that we can enjoy AGPS/GPS for applications other than just their VZ Navigator which costs $10/month. VZW monopolizes the GPS/AGPS functionality and does not allow any other independent/3rd party applications to use the position-location (GPS/AGPS) capabilities of the BlackBerry. AT&T allows iPhone 3G users to utilize the iPhone’s GPS capability regardless of whether the application is AT&T branded or not. Verizon Wireless is still expecting its customers to buy applications from their ‘walled garden’ application store, even though free alternatives do exist (e.g. case in point - VZ Navigator versus Google Maps).
Please also remind Verizon Wireless that locking down GPS/AGPS capabilities on the BlackBerry as well as any other GPS enabled phone they sell, flies straight in the face of their brand new “any apps/any device” paradigm they announced last year.
Also, threaten to convert to an iPhone 3G user, and make good on that threat, if they do not, within a timeframe you set for yourself.
Hold VZW accountable for their new “any apps/any device” policy! They aren’t living up to their word!

Cheers

I got something in the mail from verizon saying Fall 2008!!
I am hooked with the marketing of this phone, because I want it BAD. But I have to agree with the masses, this phone BETTER be as good as verizon is portraying!!

My Verizon rep just told me the info (and possibly the date) will be released Oct 1 (of course she didn’t say which year!!!!!!!)

The release of the Storm has been delayed again, due to “Technical” issues. It appears Verizon is having trouble getting into, and disableing the built in features like GPS, just as they do with every other BlackBerry they sell.

Is ATT really that horrible? I have been debating between the iphone and the blackberry 8830 (which is ugly) but I have decided to wait to the release of the storm before I make a move. I have been with verizon for 10 years and love them, their phones just are not nearly up to par with the iphone. The dare is a daring dissapointment in my mind. After seeing so many upset att customers, i think ill stay with verizon.
