BlackBerry Storm goes into TA (technical acceptance) at Verizon, delayed 3-4 weeks

Here’s our latest info on the BlackBerry Storm and the fate of the device on Verizon’s network: it just went into technical acceptance at Verizon which usually takes around 3-4 weeks, and the device has been delayed internally by around 3-4 weeks while they work out the kinks (read: buggy and unresponsive) and polish it up. That puts us around a mid-November launch on Verizon. We’ve double confirmed that information, so it should be pretty accurate. Additionally, we heard from someone else that they’ve increased the marketing budget for the BlackBerry Storm just to give AT&T a little kick in the nuts for delaying the Bold so much. That’s not confirmed, still probably a little true, plus we got a chuckle out of that anyway.

That doesn’t surprise me so much. The last time Verizon took a shot at taking down the iPhone was last November with the LG Voyager. Mid-November launch would be about a year later, so maybe this is going to a yearly thing.

Buggy and unresponsive? Better re-check that source. Don’t agree with this claim.

I’ve suffered from my second replacement 3G iPhone using AT&T’s horrid network. Tired of the dropped calls, poor voice quality and slow inconsistent data speeds. AT&T is huge, but they lack in quality and reliability.

I love touch screens and a big fan of BlackBerry. If I was to move over to VZW, this would be the device!

That doesnt make sense because if it is already at Technical Acceptance level, then it would not be buggy or delayed. If this TA info is right, then we should have the phone around October 13th…the date we have all been hearing. Sorry BGR, but you’re wrong.

It’s definitely delayed a little bit as far as I’m told…also the TA thing…couldn’t they just enter into TA and keep testing software builds until it’s “certified”?

Ok so this phone will never come out, but hypothetically…How much will it cost?

I dont believe VZW accepts anything until it is 100% certified (buildwise) another reason it takes so long for VZW to get their phones out to market.

Why do you two assume this phone will “never be released?” I think it’s a bit selfish on your part to get mad at VZW when the phone HASN’T BEEN OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED.

If Verizon goes and screws up the launch like at&t has since announcing the Bold, then that’ll be one thing. But don’t complain about a device being slightly delayed when we haven’t even heard an official announcement from VZW.

Yeah that’s a good point, but this is coming from two separate sources and obviously Verizon is different than AT&T, but I don’t see how they wouldn’t take a device in, start doing testing, and then report back to RIM with issues to fix and all that. Will try and get more some info on it, thanks!

I’m kinda pissed and kinda happy… I’m pissed cause it’s delayed, I’m happy cause it’s delayed right into the month my 2 yr agreement with VZ ends, and I’ll be eligible for a discount on a new phone :)

I don’t really care when it comes out. I will get it. I have the dare right now and am willing to wait. I just want to know where the price range is going to be. Is it going to be competing with the Iphone on price or is it going to be a typical New Blackberry and run around the $400 mark.

I just like the comment that RIM is kicking AT&T in the nuts for delaying the Bold. They deserve a swift kick in the nuts for the delay.

I’m going to wait until BG gets more info on this one. Judging from his posts in the comments section this may not be rock solid info. I’m always optimistic by nature though so hopefully CTIA will bring us good news.

The VZW Rep for our company just mentioned yesterday that the Storm would be out in October. I don’t know the answer, so I’ll ask: Would the Sales Rep covering our company have up-to-date information?

Also, I too would like to know the “potential” price range for the Storm. Thanks!

You need to remember no ‘official” word has been given as to a targeted release date. Only speculation. The Thunder still has a few bugs, but I disagree with the unresponsive comment. The device has definitely reached VZW’s TA tho…

I can understand why VZW is testing. RIMM has its standards, VZW has its own. As a former customer of theirs I was frustrated about them being last at bringing new phones to the market, but I learned later VZW ethics seperates them from most, especially AT&T. AT&T and is about “hey we sell this first”, never “we sell it first and better” They have the Iphone 3G (blah, blah, blah), but the darn thing doesn’t have the kinks worked out. If the Iphone or Bold was on VZW it would probrably launch today instead of July and the phones would work to include good call quality.

AT&T is quantity, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint (sorta) lean toward quality. Quality in my mind is intelligent customer service and phones that do what their hype promises.

In my opinion the 3g problems the iPhone is having and the browser problems the Bold is having is beneficial to other companies… the can go with the excuse of…”Hey we dont want our device on the hurry like those 2 and se what happened… lets take our time to work everything out and not come out with a 80% ready device

My husband and I have about had it with at&t and the 3G iPhone so much to the point we finally got them to notate our accounts to let us out ETF free.

Even with T-Mobile our service was consistent and we weren’t dropping so many calls or experiencing all the garbled calls.

I hate changing carriers just for a phone, but everyone I know who has Verizon has good reviews attesting to their network.

I definitely am interested in giving them a shot for this new TC BlackBerry. Anything at this point has to be better than what AT&T can give us. We’re in LA. You’d think AT&T would give us a better network out here?

No, Dennis. Verizon “Reps” have no inside info with regards to secretive release dates.

I know you’re only relaying information, and I am glad you don’t believe every word you hear. Too many people get “inside info” from in-store reps that are simply delusional.

So what’s going to be better? The Storm, the HTC touchpro (which i was excited about until learning that Sprints was going to be better and released first), or the CDMA variant of the Omnia?
