New Spy Shots of the HTC Dream G1; Get Ready T-Mobile Customers
Forget about the FCC specs and the blurry spy images that have been passed around thus far. Here it is T-Mobile people, the handset you’ve been waiting for. Behold the T-Mobile branded HTC “Dream” G1 in all of its screen-sliding, qwerty-rocking, Android-powered glory. Queue the sting ensemble. Shown here in white sporting what is likely a near-release version of Android, the G1 is basically exactly what we all hoped it would be. It’s not all unicorns and pixie dust however. As much as we can’t wait to see this handset released, the new clearer images do bring a potential problem to light. While it won’t be a deal-breaker for most we presume, check out the recessed area that the qwerty keyboard sits in. Couple that with the off-center design and reaching those top two rows on the right side of the keyboard is quite possibly going to be a bit awkward, especially for those with smaller hands. Oh well, you know you still want it. Hit the jump for some more quality shots of this baby in action.

The next-gen iPhone will NOT have a physical keyboard or Blackberry support. It MAY get a landscape-mode keyboard though, which would be a plus.
I hope Samsung, LG, Moto, or other companies will make other google phones soon. I am kind of sick of HTC phones somehow.
LOOKS LIKE COMPLETE SHIT
This looks horrible ill be getting a sprint pro!
It does look a little flimsy but I am glad to see a keyboard more like the T-Mobile MDA (Wizard) with raised keys rather than the flat ones on their recent products. I think the black model will look better but not too sure on the brown. I’ll be getting it regardless. From my experience with the emulator included with the SDK the personalisation options for the UI are amazing. So long as T-Mobile didn’t lock it down. Come on October!
@ Robert Mejias
You have inside info on the next Apple phone?? What I described above is my “dream” phone. A phone that works seamlessly with my mac computers but that doesn’t sacrifice any BlackBerry functionality.
Why won’t they make a phone with a physical keyboard? This thinking eludes me. They have multiple computer styles. Multiple iPod philosophies. Why not multiple iPhones? BlackBerry has a flip phone dropping any minute now. BlackBerry has a touchscreen phone dropping any minute now (not to mention Bold, Curve, pearl, etc.). Why is it asking too much for Apple to give us a little variety in this area as well?
Yipes!
I’ve only woken up to such an ugly sight once and at least I could blame in on the Patron. I wouldn’t have that excuse if I bought this.
Pass.
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SOOOO glad I didn’t wait around for this thing!! Holy crap is it UGLY! I went ahead and bought my first iPhone (3G of course).
Well, I guess it’s not a bad thing that I can’t afford it if that’s what it looks like… I’ll be at T-Mobile to try one out but I am 99.9% sure that I won’t be buying one anytime within the next two years.
Don’t do it Ben. I made the mistake a few weeks ago when BGR posted something almost a week after EVERYONE else posted about it and BGR himself came on here to “if you don’t like it, leave.” And the fanboyz went nuts!
I think it would have looked better in black. I am gonna take the plunge for this joint. I can’t wait to see the apps. I can’t wait to see the gui mod and hacks for this joint as well. Hopefully this os gets a following as huge as xda-devs.
BG they taking shots at you even though you give us more exclusives than Clue used to. All I can say to that is Pigeons and Eagles. People feed pigeons and shoot at eagles. Thats how you know your doing your thing.
Ewww…it looks silly to hold in landscape mode and that keyboard looks retarded to use…
Here it is in BLACK (looks far better):

Fisher Price toy anyone? I don’t care how good the operating system is, I wouldn’t be cought dead with that thing.
P.S. The black and white is a hair better.
Touchscreen *and* slideout keyboard *and* trackball?
The everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to input methods obviously isn’t exactly going to win any beauty pageants, but coupled with what is shaping to be an amazing open OS, and this thing has the potential of being the most useful workhorse mobile device on the market.
Myself, I have an iPhone and am looking to trade-up to to something more useful. It’s many limitations that we are *all* too well aware of at this point have finally become a deal breaker for me. This could finally be that contender.
I think it looks delicious. I’ll be first in line to buy one.
Wow, Wow, Just like a newborn!
Everybody says how beatiful it is
Everybody says It looks just like the father.
The only one that knows that is ugly and knows who’s the father is the mom. But she won’t say it.
Do you know how ugly was Albert Einstein when he was a newborn baby?
Hey, it’s function over form people! It looks…a bit cheap, but I will hold out on assuming anything until I check it out in person. If it’s all that, I will make the purchase.
hay guys I don’t like this because it doesn’t look sexxy. how will I show this off in front of my friends?
grow up, bgr posters.
What?
im not completely sure what the BIG deal is about this phone. it looks a lot like the sidekick with a missing side, which seems like it could be odd to type with.I dont know what exactly the Android is suppose to do, and how its suppose to be different from any other phone. Their has been so much hype about the “1st android phone”, but i dont know i just think i expected something a little more impressive. And of course with every other phone out there, when its the 1st phone of its kind it always has glitches and such, i’d probablly wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation to come out before i choose to buy one.
@ Doug
Function over form? To some degree, yes. But both is better. The form on this is just too, uh, Rosanne Barr.
I agree with Alex. Can’t be embarrassed to show your phone so this one’s a no go.
@ Ashley
Exactly. Sidekick with a missing side – perfect. I don’t know what “the Android” is supposed to do either.
