New Spy Shots of the HTC Dream G1; Get Ready T-Mobile Customers

Forget about the FCC specs and the blurry spy images that have been passed around thus far. Here it is T-Mobile people, the handset you’ve been waiting for. Behold the T-Mobile branded HTC “Dream” G1 in all of its screen-sliding, qwerty-rocking, Android-powered glory. Queue the sting ensemble. Shown here in white sporting what is likely a near-release version of Android, the G1 is basically exactly what we all hoped it would be. It’s not all unicorns and pixie dust however. As much as we can’t wait to see this handset released, the new clearer images do bring a potential problem to light. While it won’t be a deal-breaker for most we presume, check out the recessed area that the qwerty keyboard sits in. Couple that with the off-center design and reaching those top two rows on the right side of the keyboard is quite possibly going to be a bit awkward, especially for those with smaller hands. Oh well, you know you still want it. Hit the jump for some more quality shots of this baby in action.

I’m afraid that everyone has been spoiled with the iPhone’s beautiful screen that also responds better than any touchscreen in history. So, in turn any new touchscreen device needs to really try to compete in this aspect. It also needs to be user friendly, having an easy to figure out U.I., like the iPhone. I personally have the first generation iPhone, so if I am going to buy a new device, I would want it to at least be as good in these areas, but also needs to exceed the iPhone in other areas, which shouldn’t be to hard. We all know in what areas the iPhone is seriously lacking in.
I do like the fact that this device has a real qwerty keyboard along with the other real keys. I do get tired of not having real keys on the iPhone.
I look forward to seeing this and upcoming devices from android.

@roberts: What’s so great about it? The fact that its the first device that has a high quality qwerty keyboard to rival the king – sidekick, and a grown up operating system (ie, not winmo, sidekick).just wait until the apps start pouring out for it when developers realize there is a market for apps.

this is one fugly phone from HTC, I would think when bringing a new OS to market you would want a cutting edge design along with it. It looks awkward to use and dated. Looks like a 2001 PDA with no mobile application.

Hideous! Part sidekick, part I-don’t-know-what, but it’s fugly. We can only hope that the unit pictured is a test unit and will bear no resemblance whatever finally launches. It ought to be released on a re-branded Touch Pro, or something like it.

I think it looks pretty good, actually, but it defies the iPhone-inspired (or LG Prada or whatever) designs everything else does…

Though, rumor has it it will come in multiple colors, so if you don’t like off-white, then there will probably be something else… (What? Choice?!?)

everybody likes to compare every new phone to iphone’s UI.

nobody seems to want to compare iphone’s ability to beat every new phone at dropping calls.

Not loving the way it looks. More like a nightmare than a dream.

Like a cheap toy, regardless the color. Those hokey little buttons on the stubby … control panel.

Not for me. I’ll hold out for the Bold. Or Thunder/Storm. Or the rumored next-gen iPhone (supposed to have physical keyboard, + cut and paste, + stereo bluetooth, + 3.2 megapixel cam, + video, + blackberry support).

That apple phone I just mentioned, that’s MY dream.

    @BG

SERIOULSY, CAN YOU TEACH US A LITTLE? WHY IS THE BOLD AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD BUT NOT IN THE USA? WHY? JUST AS IMPORTANTLY, WHY DOES IT SEEM IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A HIGH RANKING ATT OR RIM REP ON THE RECORD TO EXPLAIN WHY THE PHONE ISN’T AVAILABLE UNTIL AUGUST? ARE THESE STATE SECRETS? WHY IS IT SO COMPLETELY HUSH, HUSH??

My theory: ATT is Apple’s bitch and promised not to carry the Bold until October.

    iphone is better says:

Ugly, ugly, ugly. Did I mention ugly?

And if reception on ATT is sketchy for iPhone, it will be far worse on T-Mobile, which had the worst reception to start with and only even started building 3G very recently.

Hmph. I’ll admit, I wouldn’t like to have a phone that most people thinks looks ugly.

Even though the black one may look “better”, even Android looks unfinished.

If it weren’t for the realistic “T-mobile” branding, I would have said this is 110% a prototype.
