Your first look at BeeJive for iPhone: consider every other IM app dead and buried
If you haven’t dabbled in the goodness that is BeeJive (formally JiveTalk), you are really missing out. Creators of the best IM program for the BlackBerry devices (this isn’t up for debate, ok?), we were ecstatic when we found out they were making an official iPhone application. Let’s start it off by saying MobileChat, Palringo, and yes, even AIM’s official application, sit down. You are done. Finished. Even in its beta state, it’s going to take a whole lot to knock BeeJive off the podium. It’s the most stable IM application we’ve ever used on the iPhone, it supports every single IM service under the sun, and does so in an awesome and clean user interface. Let’s not forget functionality, though. What good is an IM app that never works? We’re pleased to report that BeeJive handles connections with ease. You can specify your timeout time in the settings, and the application will continue to receive messages when the app is closed. As soon as you launch it, your missed messages are there. They even went as far as to include background notification support, so as soon as Apple flips that switch, notification sounds and badges will be pushed to you instantly. Again, this is a beta version, but even now, it’s the best IM application to use. Ok, you’re sold. When can you get it and how much? We’re not able to provide you with a release date or pricing at the moment, but it shouldn’t be too long before you can get your hands on BeeJive’s IM application for the iPhone. That is a very strong claim you are making. I have never used Beejive before but I have used Mobile Chat and Palringo and both are great programs! Although at the moment, Mobile Chat is suffering and waiting for an update.
However, Palringo is showing lots of promise with an update 2.1 coming soon. They have already implemented a push to talk feature as well as the ability to save photos take and sent from the person you are chatting with.
Will Beejive include these features as well? How much will Beejive cost? Palringo is free? I won’t count Palringo out yet……..
This App is going to be MINE!!! i hope it releases soon…
As far as pricing goes, I’d expect it to be $30, same price as the BB version.
If it works, and is rock-solid, I’m there and might just be willing to pay $30 for it.
I purchased MobileChat (MC) on Day One, and it really is a piece of cr*p. Even today, I still can’t connect. While not an iPhone developer, I do write software for a living, and MC is AT MOST an alpha application. How Apple let MC through the filter is beyond me.
That would be $30 too much. They should figure out a way to make it ad supported. (Hint to BeeJive: Make a “lite” version for free, and put some clickable ads on it)
There’s an old saying… “Why buy the cow if you get the milk for free”
Same holds true in software…
Sure BeeJive is great, but with both AIM and G-Talk available for free, I don’t see the value in paying for BeeJive.
30 bucks? when there is a free and a cheap alternative? even if beejive is amazing 30 bucks would be way too much. it’s saying it’s worth 3 super monkey balls as it were.
Will this be one of the first apps that supports Apple’s push technology? So that it can stay logged on in the background, and “push” the number of messages received?
Or am I expecting too much? (I fear I am)
if this runs in the background its gonna be a hit , bec it will be exactly what im looking for.
NO 3rd party app is able to run in the background. When apple releases push notification it will notify you when you get a new message.
@random I think we should start calculating all currency in super monkey balls. It really puts perspective on things, no?
I am really fond of jivetalk/beejive, so I’m looking forward to this. I wouldn’t pay $30 for it, but if it works well, I’d pay $10. I know that there are people who would pay $30, but I can’t imagine the number being high enough to generate significant revenue, based on the competitive landscape.
Time will tell.
I use meebo for now, and it is free and good enough until push notifications are a reality.
BeeJive is great for the BlackBerry… but when your carrier supports the official client from AOL for FREE.. why would I even bother?
Jivetalk is awesome, but if it wasn’t free, I wouldn’t use it.
Jive talk had issures an bejive should be called bekerk it sucked they also had scripingting errors on ther site. even it you wnated to buy it the scripting error would cause it not to resolve a transaction an if you email customer servce you gotta wait atleast a month or 2 befort they get back to you.
I loved JiveTalk for the BB. I would pay for this app, but I don’t think they will be able to charge $30 bucks for it. Maybe $10.
Sure I could use the free apps but will they support push when it’s available?
This post says BeeJive has already built it in, and we just need to wait for Apple to release it.
JiveTalk on the BB didn’t eat up my battery and you could set a limit to how often it checked your connection. There was a battery saver mode as well.
I still pretty happy with the Meebo web client on the iPhone. It’s free and functional, though Safari isn’t dependable as a background process…
Seriously, Galvatron…STFU….your incoherent comments are annoying as F$CK
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JiveTalk is the shizzle… Thats the thing i miss the most about my Curve. Thank god for BeeJive. Im waitin fellas, keep up the great work.
Oh and to anyone whom says BeeJive sucks, is a complete idiot. Programming is flawless and Customer support is TOP effn NOTCH.
Now to email them and beg and plead to get a Beta!! FTW
I have used this app. Its great, in all honesty TBGR is not lying. I used this as a web app. I think we have a winner here.
I guess if you want an “elite” IM app, this may be your bet. As for me, I’m content with Palringo. It’s free, easy, and it does what I want it to (besides run in the background – which Apple is to blame here).
I had purchased a license for the BB a while back but I don’t use the BB anymore because I have my iPhone, I hope I can transfer the license to the iPhone
will this allow me to connect to bb msgr?
ill pay $100 for it if it will!
thats the ONLY thing i still need that the BB has….
i tried the bb version… i couldnt get it to transfer to my bb using the bb desktop manager….oh well…
You can transfer your old BB license seat. This is something I asked Jive a month before the iPhone dropped. Also at that time they stated that they were working on a native versoin and would possibly drop Sept/Oct. Looks like they are right on schedule!!!
I am not paying 30 bucks for an IM program, no matter how good it is. That’s crazy.
