AT&T and HTC finally release Windows Mobile 6.1 update for Tilt

This might be a case of “too little, too late”, but for any Tilt owners that haven’t tossed their device through a window out of frustration (or in anticipation of the upcoming HTC Touch Pro) are finally getting a little Windows Mobile 6.1 love. The update has been released via HTC’s software update page, and should be accessible for all AT&T subscribers. The 6.1 updates are, by now, par for the course with threaded SMS, better battery life, Video Share, and a bit more. Don’t get us wrong, we love us some WM 6.1, it’s just a little bit late in the game to be releasing a firmware update for a device that will certainly be EOL’d by the end of the year. Good work, guys.

I think the device was technically EOL’d by the time WinMo 6.1 came out. They probably released it now to silence the minority of people that are complaining to them that they want WinMo 6.1.

When is AT&T getting the HTC Touch Pro?

Wooohooo, but anyone reading BGR should know about the great xda community. Glad to see a official release though.

So is this one of those retirement last ROM upgrades?

Certainly doesn’t bring anything new to the table over the HTC WM6.1 update.

    [16:45] Person_B: Why?
[16:45] Person_A: “tossed their device through a window out of frustration”?

[16:46] Person_A: throw away and buy a new one

It’s funny when a WM phone gets an update..it’s called useless, but the $Phone gets a update, it’s great.

    @xnifex
I hope you cid and sim unlocked your tilt… or this rom won’t accept the t-mobile card.

anyways, yea i had winmo 6.1 for my 8525 in april, i know the phone is old and people will laugh, but the phone really is amazing, why upgrade right?

oh that’s right, i know why…i got drunk and dropped it at a bar. :-(

here’s to never taking a nice phone to a bar ever again, i have a 3g iphone now… but when i go out, the motorola v180 has my name all over it.

ok, all that aside, i tend to find much more usability out of the xda “cooked” roms than the official roms, just get the cab that installs all the att data preferences and your good to go. (3Gvp and Black are the two best….)

the tilt wasnt like the mda where you had to cid & sim unlock. i followed the faq at xda & it involved flashing a radio rom that will read the actual sim unlock code & give it to you. i like 6.1, the only thing i got rid of was the threaded sms.

Did mine… bummed, still no camera fix, no video fix, some of my programs that ran before, don’t now (like TCPMP), some of the old reg hacks no longer work, like adding the 6th button to the today screen.

But on the plus side, remapping the PTT button is much easier!

I installed it via att’s instructions and that worked, then I restored it to the original glory with Sprite Backup and viola! IT’S NOW A BRICK!!! THANKS FOR THE SHITTY INSTRUCTIONS ATT!!! FUCK YOU!!!!!

Now I have this re-run phone because att sucks massive balls and they wouldn’t trade my Tilt for a new one. Granted it was out of the 30 day return period, but I paid $450 for it and I expect from them to give me a brand new one when I give them mine

    FUCK ATT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing to remember before you do this, call HTC support BEFORE you do anything with 6.1 otherwise you’ll brick you phone and HTC won’t claim responsibility and neither will att, mainly because att SUCKS MASSIVE COCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s fixable. I did the same thing to mine. Don’t restore the backup, it’s lethal.
    But if you already did…

follow the procedure in the manual for doing a “reset for factory” using only the softkeys and reset button. The phone is actually not bricked, it’s stuck on a blank display and responds to a hard reset. I got mine working again.

It’s still had some glitches (I fixed the battery backlight resetting itself to 10 seconds by using a registry editor to change the default key. #)

Still researching for solutions to some other quirks.
