New Palm Treo Pro to be made by HTC
Looks like Palm’s regular manufacturer, Inventec, is taking a backseat to HTC for the upcoming Treo Pro. Looking at the new images of the Treo Pro, there are now touch surfaces where the soft-keys used to be for the home, calendar, messaging, etc. How appropriate since HTC is so “pro” when it comes to making touch screen devices. We’re pretty big fans of HTC, so this is a great route for Palm to take - especially since the Treo Pro looks like the beginning of a new style and series of devices for the company. Palm’s new device already looked ok, but it’s reassuring knowing that a solid manufacturer with experience in touch screens and beautiful devices is going to be putting this one out. It sheds some new light on our question about this new phone’s build quality. Also, the Palm Treo Pro offers up HTC’s task manager program, so that should have been a dead giveaway concerning the manufacturer.
HTC designed at least one other Treo - I think it was maybe the 750. And of course they’re also supposedly behind the Xperia X1. What I don’t get with the Treo Pro is the meager 2mp camera. Also the timing is a bit weird with the new 800w on Sprint. Who can figure Palm out.

So the Treo Pro has not been designated to a specific carrier (to be sold unlocked as far as I’ve read) and HTC is the builder. How likely will HTC release an Android update for this device? Could the Treo Pro and HTC Dream be the “multiple” HTC devices launched by the Q4 capable of Android??? Getting my hands on this sharp looking Palm w/ the new OS would be a dream come true (pun intended)

Ever since the treo 650 HTC has benn making ALL of palm’s hardware
heck they Barly have their own OS on the devices anymore it’s mostly Win-MO> Hell I’m amazed Palm still exists Barly
why can’t moto and palm Just dia already the have practicly Mis Managaed themselves into oblivion.

i dont think palm knows what theyre doing. theyre like that kid in school that tries to mold themselves to like 5 different groups all at once and the only group they succeed at molding themselves to is “outcast”

From a user perspective it doesn’t matter all that much who makes Palm’s stuff, but from what I can see it’s not terrible exciting. It’d just rather go HTC.

HTC would be my first choice (hey what do ya know? I’m rockin’ a Tilt!) but HTC made stuff seems pretty hott these days…like the X1.

Most of these posts are just completely out of orbit with reality. Most of your tripe shows ignorance or echoing of last year’s news. For example:
HTC is simply the contracted manufacturer. Palm designed and owned. HTC doesn’t make a similar product for sale in U.S.
BTW, Palm stock shares have doubled in recent months. (Don’t give me last year’s stock value tripe, etc. Palm value is on the rise right now…during a bearish market.)

@movol77 Thanks for reinforcing exactly what the post says: HTC is the manufacturer for the Treo Pro. Not the designer. In terms of old news, I think you might be referring to the other Palm devices that HTC built, the Treo 650. Here, we’re talking strictly of the Treo Pro.

My rant above was about commentary posts (not your article post) that suggest things like HTC releasing the TP with Android, etc. Point being that HTC doesn’t control that decision and Palm is committed to WM and Nova.

Too many screen issues with HTC, all the devices I see have issues with a white screen and cracks. Devices look great but still have some design flaws and software issues
