New Apple Rumors from Rose: New iPods, New iTunes, New OS X

Alright, we know what you’re thinking; Rose wasn’t all that on point last time he dished about Apple. That’s true, but he has a decent track record and some of what he talks about in this latest round of link fishing coincides with rumors that have been floating around for a while. Let’s have a quick fly by:

  • New iPod nano - Rose claims that a new nano will drop before the end of next month with a completely redesigned form factor. Old stubby will go the way of the dinosaur and a tall slender new model will take its place. The new unit will also be much more rounded and will feature a widescreen display for viewing video with the device turned on its side. Pretty much in line with what’s been said before.
  • New iPod Touch - A minor revision in iPod Touch styling.
  • iPod Touch updated to 2.1, iPhone to follow - Supposedly the first major software revision since 2.0 was issued will be coming next month. Contrary to historical software updates, Rose claims that 2.1 will be released for the iPod Touch first and later issued to the iPhone. We’re not so sure about that one but crazier things have happened.
  • iPod price drops - Supposedly the entire the nano and the Touch lines will see price cuts to line them up beneath the $199 entry point of the iPhone. Shenanigans. While this might makes sense in theory, we doubt very much that we’ll see the 16 GB and 32 GB iPod Touch models drop below the $200 price point. Let’s not forget that the iPhone models are subsidized by AT&T. AT&T buys iPhone 3Gs for a whole lot more than we do.
  • iTunes 8.0 - According to Rose, we’ll see a major new iTunes revision before October with a whole bunch of new features.
  • OS X 10.5.6 - A bit further down the road, Apple is allegedly gearing up for OS X 10.5.6 which will include built-in Blu-Ray support. As such, Rose contends that we should be seeing MacBook Pros ship with integrated Blu-Ray players sometime in the future.

So either Kevo has been a busy little beaver digging up all this Apple dirt, or he was drunk and bored last night.

    who deserves credit from him Gal? you’ve said that many times about Kevin but I don’t remember you ever backing it up.

    I’m sure he was bored and latter drunk but thats doesn’t necessarily make him wrong.

    Apple better hurry up with a updated touch because I really want one but Im not gonna buy one now when I know in a few months an updated one will be out.

    @Harold
    I don’t really see the point in an nano touch. Not to mention to do that all the apps and everything would be have to be redone for the new resolution (I think).
